A quick guide for Extension offices.
Many Extension offices have staff or volunteers that will perform free testing of dial gauge pressure canners using the Presto Master Gauge Testing Unit. This video is for teaching the testing process. It is a good first introduction or refresher for anyone that will need to use the testing apparatus.
This video was made for use with the University of California Master Food Preserver Program, but the testing process is the same as that recommended by the National Center for Home Food Preservation and should be applicable in any state.
Master gauges should be calibrated each year by returning them to the manufacturer for free servicing.
