After doing a bunch of work on my personal human flying drone quadcopter. I took it to the park for a test flight. It didn't go exactly as planned, as the drone took a pretty big crash causing the propellor to explode! Never the less, I fixed it and am back to work on making it fly reliably. Enjoy!

The slow swaying of the drone seems to me like undercorrecting. You need a higher P and I value, increase it until the drone starts to sway faster, then use the D value to make it correct before it even reaches the goal so it doesn't have too much rotational momentum when it gets there.

Similarly, in the case you increase higher P it is still slowly sway, then should improve the drone body weight, make it lighter or use bigger propeller.

Ok... so your flight controller should be fine. However on the flysky remote hold down the “ok” button to get in to the menu. Then go into the functions setup. The from there setup the Subtrim. If the drone goes the the left then adjust the trim in there. Also go I to your configurator and see where the channels are. If they are off center set up your end points. Just KZfaq that there are many tutorials. In the same menu check out the throttle curve. Since you said it was accelerating fast mess around with you throttle curve. Also check out Joshua Bardwells how to build a drone series. He walks through how to calibrate and keep the drone balanced. His example is with a five inch but should be the same for 5 feet. Definitely watch some trouble shooting videos too. Drones are a very complicated thing. Make sure to watch a lot of videos. The same concepts apply to any size drone. And make sure to hold cancel on the remote to save. Good luck!

I'm sorry to say this but this is not what he should do at all since he is using a Naza that should handle this. To stop the drifting he should increase Gps gains. But before that he has to increase the "normal" gains so it doesn't tip over, however these gains also should not be to high because then the drone will start resonating. This is a fine tuning process but when done properly it will fly great.

Hey man great video! The drifting could be due to the fact that the drone is so massive. Each propeller is moving massive amounts of air and that air can bounce off of the ground and create unstable air (Essentially creating turbulence). It’s kinda like the ground effect in aviation (but not really bc that deals with heat and other factors). The drifting could also be due to the flight controller. DJI’s flight controllers use the round GPS module to calculate the exact position of the drone, and make it makes small adjustments to keep the drone in the same place. If there are trees above the drone obstructing the connection from the satellites that could cause false corrections. I suggest heading back out to the field and attempting to fly at a higher altitude to remove the chance of the ground effect kicking in. As always stay safe and be careful. Again, amazing video. I can’t wait to see you take off!

I know a decent amount about this stuff what I would do is replace the flight controller with a beta flight board. And your flysky isn’t broken when you get the beta flight board u can make adjustments to fix that. Also I would fly it in angle mode so it flys more stable and you don’t have to correct it as much.

I think you should adjust the PID loop of your Flight Controller. There's a P, an I and a D value that you can change. If you can't do that with your Flight Controller you should probably get a new one (f4?). The PID loop is the key of every stable Drone and is different on every Drone. Here is a good Video that explains the PID loop: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gKyEfZWEuJrcqXU.html I hope I could help you!

I build a lot of custom fpv racing drones. If you use a newer flight controller (f4 or better) the firmware is amazing now. I recommend betaflight (firmware). There is a ton of info on youtube for how to set up the flight controller, and tune your pid's. Boards are cheap too, you could get something in the $25-$40 range that would be great. Your old FC is a problem, maybe not your only one, but it really could be that simple. You can move that one or two clicks to be centered on your remote, but likely you need to configure your endpoints in your remote. In betaflight you can set up some slack in your reciever input, it's called "deadband" (if you are contantly seeing it move 1 or 2 or 5 points, even without you touching the sticks).BTW those wooden blades are a deathtrap, plz don't die. I love your videos!

It looked to me like the motors are fighting each other. This could be due to a software malfunction that tries to orient the drone level, but you would need a program like that to have the malfunction. It could also be due to different voltages being run through the motors to speed up and slow down the fans to keep the thing level. This along with possible control malfunctions could be the cause of the motors fighting each other.

I guess that there are too low PID values , but you need to check if controller values doesn’t jump too much then you connect to pc if they are at 1497-1503 it shouldn’t make such a big vobles. So try to rise P value and test few times with different numbers

First increase the normal gains to make the drone stable, then increase Gps gains so it doesn't drift away. Don't increase the gain to much because then your drone will start over reacting/resonating.

How much does your drone weigh? If it's less than 55 pounds you're in good shape. Secondly, I would highly recommend getting a higher quality controller such as the spektrum DX6i or equivalent. Also, a good flight controller that will make your life very easy is getting a pixhawk autopilot. A good ground control software for it is qgroundcontrol. This will let you do a lot of fun things as well as incorporate autonomous capabilities.

Also hovering low to the ground will cause it to sway because all the air it’s blowing to the ground will shoot back up and move the drone around. I personally moved away from flysky and went to FrSky but that’s just personal opinion, I got too used to the i6 controller that the better gimbals in my QX7 radio felt weird to me at first. Newer flight controllers like an F7 which have dual gyros make a steadier flight. But on a drone that large I’m not so sure an F7 is something you’d want to put on it, more for the five inch drones for FPV freestyle but I may be wrong.

Jake, great video as always! It would be wise to master the basics of hovering with a 20$ banggood drone with no gps-positioning hold and no barometer altitude-hold, because if the gps glitches on the human drone, u can switch to manual mode and regain control of it.. mark a square box on the floor with tape, and try to hover it 50cm high and as stationary as possible right in the middle of that square area. If you can keep it still for the entire battery pack, then you have nailed it. I used this method to learn inverted hover for an rc heli /watch?v=yww4ceFc6BM

Not exactly an expert but check out the cc3d controller is what I have for my own bad drone project. When it got it it was light years better than the garbage hobby king one I had. The cc3d has lots of settings you can change on the computer to try and get it to help fly stable more. Also with the controller you can usually set trims (I think its trims i forgot) so that its always a little to a direction. You can do this to help fix any offsets, like if it always leans one way trim it to haev a bit more to that counbter that side. But generally if its leaning you might have a balance issue or something. My drone is just a 3d printing project but my printer is old and junk and im lazy and take too long to design new parts in fusion360 so its taking years lol. My motivation is pretty low every time I do anything with it something goes wrong or breaks. Repeat. Best of luck super cool project look forward to next vid.
