G'day Tom, Yay Team...! You'll get the hang of it. Gennys from the Hardware shops like to be run under at least 30% of their "Rated" output - otherwise they run rich & dirty..., and they don't much like running for long at more than 70% of Rated Output. Basically, you probably "need" a 10 KvA unit to feed that 5.5 Kw Aircon unit and 500 watts of lights & TVs & Phone-Chargers. I have 2 Backup Gennies, one Westinghouse 220 cc 4-Stroke 3,000 Watt unit bought to feed my Motorbike's Charger (750 Watts output at 70 Volts..., so it takes 830 Watts of 240 Volt AC to feed it - at 92% Efficiency {!}...) ; so when charging the Bike I also run my Hut Lights, and Battery-Chargers for both my Houselighting Battery Bank (12 -Volts & 650 A/Hrs) and my Fridge-Battery (12-Volts & 225 A/Hr)...., and ideally a Husqvarna Battery as well - all to raise the Load up to the desirable 33% of Rated Output. That's also my Workshop Tools Genny. And for times when all I want to do is charge a Husky Battery, or two, after a cloudy day..., I also have a 750 Watt Gentrax 40cc Digital Inverter Genny (which recharges a BLi-300 in an hour & a half on 500 ml of 91-octane, vs 850 ml to soley charge the same Battery with the Big Genny...). But when the Big Genny is already recharging the Bike, then it will also simultaneously recharge a Husky BLi-300 for only an extra 300 ml of Fuelburn...; and it adds only another 100 ml/hr for it to be feeding the Houselighting Bank & the Fridge-Battery Chargers as well... The Bike can be ridden down to minus 30° C....(!), but it can't be recharged below 0°C. (Husky limits their system to -10° for Chainsawing - Not below 0°C. for recharging.... So I have a complicated interlocking set of Tea-Cosy type Covers, stapled up from Thermal-Insulation ("Sisalation"), Enclosing the Battery & Speed Controller, Motor & Gearbox, with a little "Heat Pad" 18" by 12"..., sucking 100 Watts of 240 Volt AC tied on under the Battery - inside the interlocking Heat-trapping "Tea-Cosies"..., all under a Blue Tarpaulin clipped on with a dozen Clothes pegs to keep any dew or rain off. Unwrapping, and re-wrapping the Bike, in Winter, is about a 1/2- hour task each way, apart from setting up for, monitoring and securing the Charger & Generator after - recharging.... I can't wait for the Stand-Alone 3 Kw/Hr per day Solar Bike-Charger to be on-line. Such is life. Have a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !

Have this same gen. It runs 10ga wire for its 220/240. Its not a whole home gen with running a central ac system running. At best its good for just running lights and outlets for charging and for refrigerators, freezer, to keep food from spoiling. The voltage regulator in the head i believe is its weak point on this generator. Good to have a spare, and to not run this generator for long spells over 3500 watts.

It is rated for 30.2 Amps Continuous, and 37.5 intermittently. I have it on a 30 Amp Breaker so I can run it until the breaker blows. I have two spare generators and solar.

@@frugalprepper yeah but you’re panel is 110 amps at minimum but yours looks to be upgraded to 220amps because of the central air so the house and especially with the AC on is pulling more then 30amps and is going to make it trip every super heating the wires making it a fire risk.

@@antoniomarc7174 You also forgot to run a ground wire to a ground rod from the generator. Which when you dont, makes the resistance high and the wires burn hot. Example run an extensipon chord, and at the plug connection male /female it will be hot to the touch. That is why people have things go wrong with equipment or fires.

Tom I need your help. My AC unit died this past Saturday. after watching your video I had to order a new capacitor. Installed it and still nothing. The blower motor works but the outside compressor is not turning on. Can you advise what i should try next? Thanks DVD:)

ChecK the AC Compressor. Here is a good article. www.wikihow.com/Check-an-AC-Compressor More than 30 MOhms and you have a bad compressor. It it is good start going over all the wiring and make sure it is not broken.

This just doesn’t seem like the right size generator to run a whole house, looks a bit dangerous be careful.

Coupled with a soft start on the condenser it’s possible. I just ran my whole home (minus big draw items such as coffee n blow driers while ac is running) 4 days on an 8750 predator, thanks Beryl. I have a 4 ton and an inverter mini-split in my home. Backfed my panel off the generator.

Looks like an illegal generator connection back feeding into the grid which is deadly for anybody who works on a nearby power line while your running that thing during power outage
@rcwrecker78
@rcwrecker78 15 күн бұрын
@@Chad-Giga. not entirely true. they sell interlock kits for that reason. You can also shut the main breaker off while using the generator to backfeed the panel off a backfed 30A 2p breaker if you don’t have an interlock. You’re correct though. You can backfeed into the grid if you don’t take the proper steps.

Also, that generator is way too close to your it window, you will get carbon monoxide poisoning if you run that for any amount of time with a window open

No it is not. I have carbon monoxide detectors inside anyway.
