I played goal back in the 1980's with leather pads all the way into the 2000's and I have to say, I am really unimpressed with the modern leg pads. I just hate the way pucks just bounce off of them like a tennis ball against a brick wall! The leather pads had lots of issues, not the least of which was their weight and how they would get even heavier the wetter they got. But the puck would be deadened after hitting them, no matter how hard the shot came in and that was a big help. Goalies could count on that puck dropping, where it could be better controlled or covered up. Granted, I get that there is a benefit to being able to kick the puck away from the danger area but I think there has to be a better middle ground, at least as an option for some goalies.

Yeah I remember not even too long ago when we wanted pads that had zero rebounds. But now we’re seeing pretty much all brands moving toward a stiffer/ bigger rebounding pad. Kinda like how the bootstrap has been slowly disappearing too
