Testing our Motorcycle Riding Skills in Baviaanskloof S1EP50

Today we are leaving from a beautiful farm outside of Willowmore and make our way to Baviaanskloof. After a quick phonecall before we set off to ensure that the rivers were low enough to cross by motorbikes, it is time to take on this 4x4 route. Once we turn onto the gravel roads, we are greeted with stunning mountains, valleys, cliffs and rock formations. After a 100 km of gravel the entrance gate of Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve appears and from there we have another long stretch to go that gets more and more difficult. We also are running out of time to get out of the Nature Reserve, as the gates close at a certain time of day and we are not 100% sure what the time is. Will we make it out of the Reserve in time? Will we make it trough the Baviaans and all the River Crossings without incident? It is a wild ride and we have to put all our skills and our bikes to the test in this one.

Haha! We had many nervous giggles this day and there was also the silent bravery as well. But Baviaanskloof is an amazing ride, one of our best rides ever!

Haha! It was a voice of fear of dropping the bike and drowning it! That would have set us back quite some time and we where hard pressed to make it to the other side. But that rocks where crazy slippery and loose not easy at all.

Super nice ride. I just love the Baviaans, did it 4 times, 1 with 4x4, 1 by 4x2, 1 motorbike and 1 with MTB Transabaviaans 24h race. 🎉 Well done with those water crossings

Werner I like your interpretation of 'Die Sleutel. However, the original is the belief that if the rocks of the adjacent cliffs should dislodge, the Baviaans will be 'locked' forever. 👍👍👍

Thank you so much! Haha! most of them was pretty easy even when we create tidal waves! Haha! The last one was very hard work as the rocks where super slippery and loose but still good fun.

Such an amazing trip, loved the cat visitor, donkey cart 😂 and just the most stunning scenery. I laughed so much at that one water crossing, i probably would alao have gone thought at that speed 😅 the experience you are both gaining is incredible....but have to say some of that standing water was he hectic

Glad you enjoyed the video and had a good laugh, we also laughed at Cissy's Tidal Wave! But it was super fun! Yes we where not expecting the water to be so deep, on the phone call in the morning they told us there where no water and everything was dry... just to show you you never know what you going to get. Most of the water crossings was pretty easy just the last one with the loose rocks at the bottom was hard, the rocks where super slippery. Haha! The cat and the dog was very cute we had a good time with them.

Thank you so much! 🙏 we have been looking forward to doing Baviaans for a long time and it was a special day for us! Long road and loads of diffirent terrain to pass… but man was it fun! We where super tired at the end of the day but it was all worth it!

Well done you guys. A lot more water than when we did it in January, but at least not 43 deg C. Obviously had a lot of rain and road more rutted than in January. The paved sections are horrendous

Thank you so much, it was an amazing ride one of our best days! We watched your video of Baviaans and we could see it was a warm day! Not sure what is the best the heat or the deep water and rutted roads, we where pretty cold down there we both had our down jackets under our riding jackets on. Yes the paved section was not easy... we where dreading it all the way but was not that bad. Maybe helped that we where expecting the worst hahaha.

Enjoyable video, looking forward to my trip there in 2 weeks. Am doing it with no luggage, wife in the truck with the camp gear. Using my 650, the big 1190 is staying at home!

I had to google : "It is said that when the Baviaanskloof Key (“Sleutel”) rock falls away from the cliff, the Kloof will be locked forever!"

Great stuff!!! Please can you explain your audio setup that allows you to record your conversation (both riders talking to each other and commenting on the ride). Would love to understand how you do that. Thanks so much and keep up the great vids!! Cheers.

Hey guys! What cables are you using to record your gopro audio and cardo audio at the same time? i've got the gopro connections but I can't get it to record the cardo.

Hi Stuart, sorry for only getting back to you now. Your message got lost between all the others. There is a couple of cables we use, from the gopro we use a stereo breakout cable, one goes into a lav mic and the other goes into a axunator cable that connect to a splitter. Splitter goes between cardo speakers and system. Hope this helps, we had to get the stereo breakout cable and axonator build as you cant (could not at that stage) buy in SA.
