A really cheap alternative is wig glue from Sally's Beauty Supply. It comes in black and white/clear and you can put it into an empty nail polish bottle or use it straight from the container. It's $2 and lasts forever. Very thick though!

MargieMama I use something similar from Sally but it is called hair glue. It's for weaves and is an almost perfect dupe for Simply Peel. It's not thick at all. It comes in a white and red plastic bottle for about 2 bucks.

+kennedy paiuk it's actually one of my favorite peels, haha! When I was a kid I used to put it on my hand and peel it off because it's so satisfying. The problem some people have is thy add water to it so it dilutes the glue, which could make it harder to peel.

Thank you for this video. To me, I think that Scotch tape works best, especially for stamping. Just touching the over stamped stamping polish carefully around the nail instantly removes the polish with no wasted time nor money to apply the latex. To do water marbling, I can understand Its use, but Scotch tape works faster and cheaper, again. In my opinion, the liquid latex is a commercialism dream. Consumers are, literally, sold on it. Even though they have to waste time to apply it, wait for it to dry, and still clean up around the cuticles with a polish removing product. But it's the "in" thing to use, due to all the over advertising and giving it out as freebies to video makers. So for me, I can't see wasting my time, money, nor effort on it. Thank you so much for your impartial video.
@KelliMarissa
@KelliMarissa 7 жыл бұрын
+JayKB I totally agree with you! I actually used to use a really low quality latex just because it's what everyone was using, until I realized there were better products out there. I do admit I love the convenience of a cheap liquid latex (I just buy one from Amazon now, I don't use the very expensive ones marketed for nail art, even though I do get them for free) but I find myself reaching for tape when I just don't have time for the application and drying time!

Love this video for giving reasonable alternatives to liquid latex barrier. I have glue but no real way to effectively apply it yet. I never even thought of using a peel off polish, or rather peel off base coat, as a barrier but now thinking a trip to the dollar store for some LA Colors peel off base is warranted to try it out. 😁

Late to the party as usual. But knowing that PVA glue is the same as Elmer’s school flue took me way too long to learn! I fell for the $13 latex barrier at a beauty supply store ONCE! I saw someone else use a peel off face mask (I'm sorry I can't give proper credit😞), and decided to give it a try. It worked well, I didn't time the dry time, and I haven't decided if using a cotton bud or an old nail polish brush would be best since I've only used it once and I used my fingers to apply. That might be an alternative someone with allergies could try, and it's definitively inexpensive enough, but am sure glue might be the most cost friendly.

I accidentally tried that Sally Hanson peel off base coat (yes I'm that messy lol) & I found 2 coats worked really well for it's intended purpose on the nail. On the skin, as long as you're careful it doesn't dry folding in on itself over the nail, it works well as an alternative to liquid latex barriers. Dries quickly between two thin coats when working from both hands too.

Is there any kind of barrier you can use with gel or dip powder manicures? I would kill to have something I could block that skin along the sidewalls and a tiny barrier around the cuticle with lol. I suppose liquid latex would work for dip powders if you removed it before adding the activator. But I’m not sure lol. I’m so new to all of this, used to be huge into regular polish and ditched it all when I moved and now I’ve built up a new collection thanks to my Amazon addiction of gel and dip powders, but my shaky hands still mess it up lol

I don’t use eyelash glue but it looks pretty similar to hair/wig glue - which I use as a latex barrier for nail art curtesy of another KZfaqr. You can get about 125ml bottle at Sally Beauty for around $5. I pour mine into an empty nail polish bottle. It does get gummy when it gets old but adding a bit of water fixes it right up. And it lasts forever! I’ve had mine at least six months and I’m still on my first or second nail polish bottle full.

I used to buy simply peel but it got expensive and usually dried out before I used it all in the bottle so now I get those huge $10 bottles and mix it with glitter (which I don’t need but I like) then I use 5ml bottles because it’s less product that could dry out and I get way more product for the same price of simply peel! (Also the $10 bottles of latex like the amazon or Halloween store ones smell bad because it’s bad quality but simply peel smelled the same to me just a side note if u are sensitive to smells) 💞💖

I have a couple questions - First off, have you ever used Argan Oil nail polish? I just tried some but want to know your thoughts too! Secondly, why don't you use one of the colors of the gradient as the base? Its usually white. Is there a reason for that? I'm just starting to try gradients thanks to your videos and didn't have a good white so I used one of the colors and it seemed to work ok. Thank you! You're the best! Watching your videos got me back into doing my nails! I'm obsessed again!

+Rebecca W hey Rebecca! Thanks so much for your support on my channel :) I haven't heard of argan oil polish - what brand have you tried? I'd love to look into it! As far as the white base goes - when I do a monochromatic manicure (ie, red to black, or light blue to dark blue) I usually use the lightest color as my base color. But if I'm doing multiple different shades, I use white as a base so that none of the colors are affected (for example, if I did red to yellow and used yellow as my base, the red would have an orangey tinge to it!)

Kelli Marissa I found an Argan Oil Formula nail polish by Sally Hansen. They call the line "color therapy". I'm obsessed! It made my nails feel very strong and healthy in this cold weather. I got "Unwine'd" #370. I love the color too. Very rich red. Perfect for the winter! I was afraid with the oil being in the polish that it would peel or chip away easily or stain my nail and I was proven very wrong. After almost a week and a half, I finally just took it off because I wanted to change up my nails. No chipping or anything. And I am crazy hard on my nails. A manicure is awesome if it lasts 5 days! And, while it did take a good while for me to get it off my nails, they amazingly weren't stained. I would love to know your opinion!

I use elmers glue instead of liquid latex but I do one thin coat and let it dry and then apply another thin coat. When you use a thin coat it drys really quickly, I'd say less than a minute.

+Nope_ Im_nota_smurf78 ooh that's actually a really handy tip! It's so much cheaper than latex so really the time it takes to dry is the biggest inconvenience haha.

Hi, any thoughts or tips on cuticle oils or creams that are fragrance free. I have Fragrance Allergies, which sucks, some scented body lotions I can mix into my fragrance free stuff. And I have found alternatives for face and hand lotions. But cuticle gels\oils no luck. Thanks

Elmer's white glue takes so long to dry tho. I used to use the scotch tape method, but I dont like it cuz it's hard to remove and takes a lot of tape to get your cuticle fully protected plus your skin gets sweaty cuz it can't breathe. lash glue is hard to peel off.

A great tip: Use Technokol (a glue brand) If you have it in your country defenetly use this, because... -If you apply it in really thin coats it's dries in like *half a minute* Or maybe faster -If you apply it in a thicker coat it dries in *one and a half minute* -really cheap - good for a peel off base coat aswell! 😝 I made a perfect liquid latex: - 2 parts of glue - 1 part of any kind of nailpolish If you want to you can add 0.5 part of nailpolish remover, but i don't recommend it. If it's too thick add a tiny bit of nailpolish remover. Hope it helped anyone :D
