Testing out the Power Wheels with 2 18v batteries in series with rubber tires.

First of many upgrades. Was originally just planning on putting two batteries in for parallel but wanted to try this. Now it’s wired with hi/lo that switches from parallel to series which meant upgrading to 24v motors and 12ga wires. The tires were previously wrapped in garden tractor rubber tread (very first upgrade). The alley here is pure ice under the snow. We discovered later that too much traction requires a helmet because it will do wheelies 😂

@@notjoeyg666you can buy an extra battery and connect it with the battery already present in the power wheels. Would make it much faster but may fry your motor up if it isn't rated for it

Love this, we destroyed too many of these doing this and got the razor quad with steel frame and rubber tires . My 3 year old was obsessed for about a year and his papa came home with a 110cc quad for him now he’s ripping the farm up and we are looking into him starting racing 😂 buckle up dad

I loved it when my kids had power wheels. My daughter tried driving her PW Quad up a kiddie slide, until it was inclined 45*. I got a great picture from that

It's awesome. My kids loved it. Had it selectable 12v or 24v! Only problem is the nylon gear box.

I haven’t had a gearbox issue with any yet, the nylon fins in the motors themselves have been what I cooked out but that hasn’t happened since upgrading to 550 motors with variable outputs. This one is now on 775’s because I grew up on Home Improvement lol

This is a right of passage for every young father. I had to rig up metal gears for my kids 4 wheeler power wheels. The plastic ones lasted about 10 minutes

😳 I have considered doing that in one I have here but there was no good mixture of motors and gears I could find to marry it all together. Instead, I think I’m going to put a scooter motor in it. First I have put huge tires on it and fabricated a bunch of components. Anything you upgrade will have a butterfly effect. In the case of a 40v battery, I would strongly suggest a controller, probably even a voltage reducer at the motors. At the very least, 24v motors. Upgrade the wiring too. If you went from 12 to 40 you will melt connectors and fry switches.

Her brown Jeep will be the snow Jeep. We put some really aggressive tires on it. The Jeep catwalks on solid ground if she starts off in fast mode 😬

I did the same thing for my son it worked great My lasted about 7-8 minutes it was double the speed and it burned up the motor

Yeah, 12v motors don’t last, she would do it in spurts and we got months out of them before we upgraded to 24v motors. Lasted right up until May when we went camping and I let her go. 20 min later I we pushing it home lol.

Oh we have fried stuff. Everything that breaks gets upgraded. All 12ga wiring, fuse protection, upgraded motors end voltage reducer for the lights. The max voltage I seem to get at the motors is just over 24v so there seems to be enough resistance

Nice job, I just wired up the grandkids dune buggy to a Milwaukee 18volt 12mah battery. Unfortunately those plastic tires isn't great for traction. The 7 yo granddaughter absolutely loves it. She will floor it, get it sideways and drifts it down the driveway.

Not in this Jeep. Diff is still stock. I did in her brown Jeep because I bought gearboxes that were not meant for it and it came with a steel frame.

It’s so much fun toying with those power wheels but be careful cause soon you’ll destroy the brushes on those motors and you’ll have to get bigger brushless ones and those aren’t cheap.

They weren’t too bad. I did put a set of MLtoys motors in though and now even our Desert Storm Jeep gets smoked. There isn’t a power wheels at the camp site that can catch her

That will burn out the motors, I did the same thing mine lasted for 3 days with the new setup, daughter loved it for those days, also I added tire chains, with 1/4 inch rope and zip ties to get more grip

Take riding lawn mower tires, cut the treads off and screw them to the plastic tires. Motors lasted quite a while as long as she didn’t drive continuously on series. Soon as we got to camp I was setting up the trailer and she was doing laps, motors lasted 20 minutes lol. Simple upgrade to 24v motors and those have been fine since. Also upgraded all the wiring as well.

Did this to Barbie keep for my oldest daughter. When the youngest flew out on a turn wifey made me unhook extra battery. Plastic wheels have very little traction so just spins out most of time.

You'd be surprised how well Wheelbarrow replacement wheels work from Home Depot. Of course you got to reinforce the "axles" but the traction is incredible.

Just a tip Took old tires off lawnmower and cut the sidewalls off then screwed them on as tread my grandson goes everywhere now and has great traction even in winter

You should do what I did and put self tapping screws in the plastic tires they would have a whole bunch more traction on the ice.

I took lawnmower front tires and cut the sidewalls off then slid the tred over the plastic wheels for traction. With the stock battery that thing will go anywhere! Best to do all 4 wheels to help with steering .

I HAD A FRIEND THAT PUT A SMALL CAR BATTERY IN HIS KIDS JEEP & HE HAD TO PUT 1/2 INCH THICK , & 1 INCH WIDE RUBBER STRIPS ON THE REAR TIRES FOR TRACTION .
