The Phawx tested OS Power modes, and you should always have it in efficiency mode. Otherwise it will boost cpu and steal resources from the gpu.

I had it work great plugged in but unplugged I have to have it as balanced/ performance or my game acts up

I disagree. With some of the games I play there is a drop in performance if I switch the OS mode to efficiency. If I switch the OS mode to performance I gain a few extra fps. Not in all my games, but in some of my games I do get a boost with the OS mode set to performance. I also have CPU boost turned off completely on my Legion Go.

Great video, but Can you do this rest again with the newest bios allowing STT and STAMP profiles. I'd like to see these results with STAMP enabled.

how long does this battery last? I want to play nba 2k, wwe 2k, aew fight forever, fire pro wrestling, wild card football, nba playgrounds, red ded and cod. What do i have to do to be able to play 2-3 hours without a charger and have the games run smooth? Or should I return this system and get the steam deck oled

Great videos as always. Can you do a video on ally manual mode and how to adjust fan curve to match performance mode because the fans go crazy for any manual mode I make in my ally? 😂

That's one really annoying thing with how Asus updated Armoury Crate. They made it so the fan profiles are pretty high anytime you use manual mode. What I do is use a program called G-Helper and run the "Balanced" preset at 17watts. I'm planning on making an update tutorial on the channel about G-Helper and how to use it :)

Did you try this with a different app/game than Heaven? I think heaven behaves a bit different in these things sometimes ;) P.s. the OS power mode helps with the 30W Perf mode on battery. At least a bit. (Still unplayable in most games)

I tried it in a few games, then just came across a weird bug where it didn't want to go over 17 watts when switching to custom. Even trying to adjust watts and changing the profiles didn't fix it, only a reboot seemed to solve it.

How valid are the Thermal Mode results from this? I get the following results on my own Legion Go using the latest drivers and STT mode in bios, 6GB VRAM Quiet: 15w plugged in - 8w unplugged Balance: 25w plugged in - 15w unplugged Performance: 30w plugged in - 20w unplugged

Thanks! I just looked through the BIOS on the Lenovo and I don't see any way to do a cloud restore. You could clone the drive or use a USB Drive to do a fresh install. If you do a fresh install with a USB drive you might need a HUB that has ethernet to get connected to the internet after the install. On the Ally the wifi driver doesn't auto install. You can also bypass the internet after a fresh install using command prompt, but I don't have a video out on how to do that. Let me know if you need any help. Edit: Also, there are programs that limit watts, but nothing like G-Helper where it's really light weight and polished (that I know of).

Good one! Actually only one explaining this nonsense of Software Lenovo provided LOL. Exactly my experience too and it was weir AF coming from other handhelds... Just did fresh Win install without any Lenovo crap and will use some community software to get it working as it should have been working :D

hi i have a question about rog ally whenever i change the resolution from 1080p in the command center to another resolution the whole desktop gets tiny and i cant use full screen in any othere resolution besides 1080p any ideas?

Is this different than windows efficiency modes etc? I’ve heard efficiency works on Ally as well but every time I switch profile it’s switches back to performance which is annoying

The Legion Go's "OS Power Mode" just changes the windows power settings. Armoury Crate on the Ally overrides it every time you switch profiles. So as soon as you change it in windows, then toggle back to "Turbo" or "Performance", it put's windows back into Best Performance. I use a program called G-Helper on my Ally that allows me to set the watts/power mode on windows. I have a video about it here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7uAmdaev96wo6c.html :)

that legion space is just a big mess... I mean armory crate on the ally had issues at launch. But these kinds of basic things were much more ironed out on the Ally even at launch. Lenovo needs to step up to update legion space. To set one custom Tdp and getting something completely different is just very annoying and basically makes Legion Space worthless...

@@alantsai3453 that's ridiculous. No real tdp control, no keyboard mapping to a gamepad button, no per-game tdp and control profiles...and those are just a few examples. I could go on and on....

On OS power mode for me, it just doesnt allow me to adjust it, i change to performance, next second, back to balanced

It could be Legion Space acting strange. Before I returned mine I noticed the watts would do what they want, ignoring the thermal modes I had set.

Is your watts sensor just gpu power?

It's APU power so both. It's the total chip power. It's not the total system drain which is different, especially when you include the screen, speakers, fans, etc.

Np, and it is extremely strange. I just returned the Go. For some reason after switching to Custom mode just playing games it decided it only wanted to do 17 watts and was extremely stuttery. Changing power modes back didn't do anything, nor adjusting the watts. So I could only reboot to fix the issue and then leave the power settings alone. It seems like it's some bug with the software that I didn't encounter, but I ran out of time to test it as I had to return the device since it's just not for me. I'll have a quick video coming out soon on why I returned it.

Should be clear to everyone that PERFORMANCE mode is unusable if you do care about your acoustic comfort and ears health. UN-USABLE. It looks like to have a Boeing 747 in takeoff next to your head.
