In order to make more valid conclusions I would suggest having at least 3 of each plant for a given substrate. I do understand how much of a pain that would be to set it up. Great video!

@@queencitytropicals I found your channel and realized I had ordered a plant from you on Etsy, which is doing amazing btw. I love watching your videos, and this one really sparked my interest. It would be nice to see someone like you, with some experience, do an experiment where we can really determine what certain plants like and what works best for them. Either way, I will continue watching your content, it was just an idea even if it is some day later.

Great video! Water is my favorite for rooting most cuttings because it’s easier and cheaper than the other options. I also have used fluval stratum for some Hoya and a white princess cutting that wouldn’t root in water or moss. The WP is thriving in stratum, although the roots tend to grow up toward the surface, so I might put it in soil. I use moss in my prop boxes for wet sticks and small single leaf cuttings. I recently bought pon and put a begonia and a king anthurium in it, but haven’t tried rooting in it. I have several plants growing in leca and might try propagating my peru in it after watching this video.

I liked seeing so many different substrates for this experiment! I've definitely found that water and perlite (but in a closed humid environment like a clear bin or bag) works the best for me! But I'm DEFINITELY going to try sphagnum next time I try to root my Peru to see if I have any luck with that cuz DANG those suckers don't seem to wanna live!😅🤞

Aloha Queen City, Good job, & very interesting propagation video. Thank you!!!! I’m a water propagation guy, but I like my water fancy, haha….. I put a small ceramic magnet, & 3-5 mosquito bits into each water bottle, and all my propagation bottles are Perrier Bottles, haha….. Have over a hundred of them, hehe…. And here in Maui, Hawaii it’s a race, when water propagating, do you get roots 1st, or mosquito larvae???? So just a few mosquito bits keeps my water propagations mosquito free, the ceramic magnets changes the water structure, & of course the Perrier Bottles makes the water Fancy, LOL……… Aloha

The Peru gave me the hardest time. 3 yrs ago I bought a cutting an kept rotting off. The leaf turned yellow an kept babying it an that leaf turned back to green! I couldn’t believe it but it made it. Hard to root but very strong will too live! 💚 So even if it’s curling or yellowing just keep it an see what happens. 😀

Quick question about the pon. That didn’t look like lechuza. The reason I’m interested is because lechuza brand has fertilizer. Did the Lawson Plant co pon have fertilizer? I have a corn in Lechuza and I hope the fertilizer doesn’t kill it.
@queencitytropicals
@queencitytropicals 11 ай бұрын
The Lawson plant co pon did have fertilizer! I bought just a little bit to try so I’m not sure it if was lechuza or not but I didn’t want to buy a huge quantity so I got that. As for the corms I’m not sure if that would hurt it or not I’m not very experienced with corms but I hope they grow for you! 🪴

@queencitytropicals Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used to kind of struggle with transferring them too and had to do some troubleshooting. I found I couldn’t let them dry out as much as established plants and I wasn’t letting them get rooted enough either. Hopefully that helps you out a little bit! It’s definitely something that takes practice to get the right balance for your plants and conditions! 🪴❤️

Hopefully a toy. 🤣 Sounds like May is a very active helper. Nice experiment. So is it the medium or the cutting that matters the most.
@queencitytropicals
@queencitytropicals Жыл бұрын
Lol May is a very active helper! I would say the cutting is likely the biggest determining factor but it’s hard to tell whether or not it’s going to be a good one until you try and root it. Unless it’s a known rehab type of cutting

Hi just a suggestion if u propergate in leca why don't you continue growing it in leca? Hoya grows really well in leca and pon.
@annafink2245
@annafink2245 2 ай бұрын
You should go through the same plants across substrates instead of all water, then all leca, etc. Then you wouldn't have to remind yourself what the Peru did, for example.
