Pepo Besosa is a freaking magician with this cars. Let me share my story real quick I have a full bolt on civic type r and installed a prl flex fuel kit currently on stock fuel system. Uploaded hondata basemap running e20 my car felt amazing, I decided to get a data log to ensure everything was actually right I found out that as soon I went WOT the fuel pump was maxing out and there was some knock. I immediately contacted redstarmotoring and let me tell you my car has never felt this strong and now running e25 with no issues what so ever. Your car is definitely on the best hands that it can be.

The stock fuel pump is at 100% duty cycle at this point.. If you upgrade the fuel system and go past 400hp stock clutch starts to go out.. Then if you want more power than 420.. You gotta upgrade the turbo.. $5k-$6k right there

I went from a prl street maf to a race maf and a prl catted to catless downpipe and saw a worst time when I ran my dragy... my car was losing traction when boost kicked in alot easier with the upgraded mod... the time difference were a consistent 14.0 on 1/4 mile to a 14.5 consistently after my upgrade... and you should try out the paid hondata app where you can time your car on the app... shows you the same times like the dragy and it estimates hp as well which was pretty close to what my car had dyno...

I had a sc 2010 si with full bolt one's running 10 psi.. Great car . Built it up the day I got it new .. I put in a 2'' phelonic spacer to keep engine heat off the blower , an rdx throttle then a aftercooler and walboro fuel pump with id750 injectors .. Also put a cooling jacket on the supercharger after I sent it out for a small pully and porting .. Deleted all the EPA crap and bypassed the coolant at intake and throttle body , put a larger crank pully as well .. Straight piped , no cat but hondata made it able to pass smog lol.. Also changed the cmc out to a older em1 civic cmc so it wouldn't rev hang nor grind second gear .. Red line trans fluid .. It was a blast .. Even kept the stock clutch bc it was holding fine Don't ever test out new engine mods without tuning first .. Your going to ruin that nice car .. Your making major changes to the fuel system so it could run lean or knock like crazy and without staring at live fp data you would never know .. Your fuel mixture and knock count is the main thing a owner should really watch constantly .. I re pinned the ecu to give me the afr right in front of me on a aem Gage and also re pinned the ecu to give me knock counts for every cyl . That's all the really important info you need at all times . You want 0 knock counts . and I believe an afr of 11 if I member right bc of the boost we run it ritch to make sure the car is safe and I can beat on it every day without fear of any damage occurring .. I didn't know a lot about the tuning but was told by tuner that afr and knock counts are the most important for me to keep an eye on .. .. Plz get some gauges so you can see 24/7 that it's running right .. I've seen the stupid failures . One young man went on a 30 min drive with a boost kit just installed .. No tuning and he kept trying wide open throttle. His knock counts were in the thousands ! It blew b4 he got it tuned.. You need to take baby steps when installing new engine parts .. If you don't ,,, well kaboom...

Each time a spark plug fires a little piece on both ends vaporizes. If you pull plugs out of an engine with 100,000 miles on them you can see how much of the material is gone especially next to a new plug. For higher compression ratios the gap has to be smaller because the spark may not jump the gap at a wider gap. Under boost compression is significantly increased over natural atmospheric pressure. Basically you compressed the air and fuel with the turbo and then the combustion chamber compresses it even further. I'm sure the hondata system increases boost or brings it lower into the rev range which is why it's a requirement to shorten the spark plug gap.
@josephu8327
@josephu8327 3 жыл бұрын
The tune you had prior for your original setup for wide open throttle operation is probably on the richer side now without a dyno calibration. Although the hondata Is calibrated for the larger injectors/pump which allows you to start the car and drive it under idle and cruise conditions the increased fuel flow especially with the ethanol likely has your car running richer which is usually quieter the smooth sounding from the excess fuel, you noticed vs the crisp wide open throttle leaner sound you are used to. The richer mixture can cause misfires and blow out the spark, the smaller gap is to mitigate this, as boost/power levels increase the gap is reduced to maintain spark in the higher density air charge. I would not perform any wide open throttle testing until it was calibrated with the new fuel setup. Also you will spin more with the added power but it's not a problem you can pull power out with boost by gear if you have that setup and your 0-60 time will get faster its really almost separate from dyno tuning.

Just an observation based on experience. Going from a .032 plug gap to a .020 gap in your situation seems extreme and unnecessary. Do you want to reduce the gap? YES. But, going straight to a .012 reduction at this power level seems extreme. Perhaps if you're getting a street-re-tune, when you're not in the shop, they are simply going 100% straight to what will work for anything instead of stepping the gap down .004 at a time until any misfires stop. I say this because a .020 gap is what we use on a 600+ HP K20/K24 builds. My mechanic uses a .017 gap on a 1000 HP K20 powered Acura, but that is a full drag race car. Until you do a big turbo mod on your car and move over the 500 HP mark, you should be able to use something more reasonable. Whether we use the Hondata Fuel System or the XtremeDI fuel pump, and can now provide the car and a skilled tuner with all the fuel they need, the factory turbo is still not going to be able to safely provide more than 400 - 410 HP on pump 93-octane, which we have in my area. That is only in the hands of a skilled tuner and is going to involve the tiny bit more boost the factory turbo can safely provide, additional timing, etc. This is never going to be a super high boost/high HP system on a stock bottom-end, stock turbo, daily driver level. At that power level, I cannot imagine something more conservative, such as going to .028, preventing any misfires. If not, I'd go to .024 and try it before going to .020. As long as you aren't misfiring, the larger the plug gap the better, especially for a daily driver where normal idle, drivability and reasonable fuel economy are desirable. I certainly do not know everything on the topic and if any tuners out there would like to chip in based on their experience, I welcome it. The more information we all have, the better.
@nYdGeo
@nYdGeo 3 жыл бұрын
Already back to correct myself. I don't know why they didn't respond here, but some of my more experienced associates have provided real world experience that demonstrates the limits of my experience. My comments above are wrong and here's why. First, running just one of the Hondata canned tunes, gapping the plugs from the factory spec .032 down to .020 has resulted in absurd increases in HP. One tuner says he's seen a 30 HP increase at the top and a smoother power curve with no other change. I would never have imagined such an increase in top-end burn efficiency at such a low power level. Clearly, I stand corrected. They also said that with the XDI fuel pump and using 93-octane, closer to 440 HP is possible with the stock turbo. Again, I stand corrected. I'm 0 for 2...damn. They did confirm the possibility of slightly less fuel economy around town and cruising on the highway, but said it was perhaps 1 mpg difference. A worthy sacrifice for that kind of free horsepower! I've already ordered a new set of plugs and the gapper tool (had the feeler gauge already). Thank you for taking me down this path of learning!

If you don't bang it off red line and shift earlier the car loses power... at least thats what I've experienced.

I really feel like you are experiencing 'the law of diminishing returns'...you keep dumping more and more money into the car for better performance, and you get nothing or very very little in terms of improved performance. You will dump several thousand dollars more and you will still keep getting the same 0-60 times or worse times than stock as proven by this video... You have to realize at some point you have a 4 cylinder 2.0 turbo and you'll never get the numbers of a V6 or V8 no matter how much money you put into it. What a waste of money and time!
@joeautomotive8582

How is it diminishing returns in with a totally new fuel system and different fuel when it is not tuned for it? Car is tuned on 91 no flex fuel tuned boost by gear with the previous power not the new power he is making? You can come back with that same law of your when he tunes the car again and keep putting bad numbers until then you are just a hater.
