The mantra of marine experts is that the risk of being taken by a shark while swimming, surfing or diving is so miniscule it's not even worth thinking about. But it seems lately the rate of shark attacks has been increasing dramatically. Every new incident, every tragic death or horrific injury, invariably leads to heated debate about the need to cull sharks so humans can be safe in the water.
