I got a water pick for my braces and the thing they put in my mouth before braces and it really helped getting stuff from between the metal. Also I made the same mistakes as you did with getting everything near you wet, you put the end in your mouth and close your mouth around it and then you have more control is how I found most success

the water flosser to use it you put the thing in your mouth so no water gets out, then you move the thing around to get things out stuck of your teeth. I have one! :) im subbed. do more!

the waterpik you actually used wrong. My mother thought it would be a great idea to get me one last Christmas and ive been using it since. The way you use it (How I use it) is to first put it in your mouth and close your mouth with the tip still in. Now you finally turn it on and there is a small piece of room where you can move it in your mouth to get each tooth.
