But it's actually good. I mean, it's not as great as The Last Picture Show, but if you go into it, knowing that, and judging it on it's own merits, you may be surprised. I'm a huge fan of the original, and I was skeptical, but glad I watched it. It's fun. And it has Annie Potts! She, alone, is a great reason to see Texasville. 😍

From the director of "Mask" and "Paper Moon"? From the author 'of "Lonesome Dove" and "Terms of Endearment"? How about from the director and author of "The Last Picture Show"? Then again, I don't think this movie did too well.

"Texasville" . . . "The Two Jakes" . . . "The Pale Blue Eye" . . . what do these three films have in common? These are instances where the trailer is a whole lot better than the actual feature film.

It ruins the atmospheric aesthetic of the first one. I could probably watch it as a madcap (stand alone) farce. This would ruin the dank 'mythology' for me 🤔 pass

Compared to The Last Picture Show, this looks like an awful sham for all those involved. One would think Bogdonovich would've learned something from William Friedkins over indulgent modernized remake of 'Wages Of Fear' that color and cool soundtracks don't guarantee a good movie. Old flirts now with their young ones sleeping around with old flirts. That's not Texasville, that's just HOLLYWOOD!

DungeonStudio, Have you ever lived in Texas? Many parts of it are exactly like this. Also, this movie IS different, but to each their own; I know lots of people who love this movie, & its precursor, it's ask in personal preference!

I mean, Sorcerer is a fantastic film, don't know what you're talking about. And, Texasville, while not great, isn't that bad. And this wasn't Bogdonavich's crazy idea. This is based on a sequel the author himself wrote. Yeah, the tone is wildly different, but it is you know, official.

Writers have written sequels and spoofs to Gone With The Wind, Citizen Kane, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. And Hollywood still hunts out and keeps hold for those options. Thankfully estates, investors, and directors deny or turn down any such offers. Too risky, Too outdated, too sacrilegious. When you get lightning in a bottle, keep it corked. If you capture a fart in a jar, keep the lid on it. Soon as one tries to mix the two to create 'Stinky Thunder' for the kids - all is lost.

The movie was a complete failure. It didn’t have the gritty realism of a bleak life in a small west Texas town like the first one and became a caricature.
