I love how you incorporated comment feedback, you honestly are very inspiring to me on my adventure of makeshift game dev as a university student. Crazy that I've known about your scratch profile since I was still in middle school.

This is really cool, but I have a suggestion. Add a speed option to control how fast the text goes. That way, you can make really slow or instant text without having to turn on and off screen refresh!

That's a good upgrade. And I want suggest that you can also make a video on making the text appear with an animation.

Hey griffpatch, instead of dragging the Font sprite in your backpack, if you right click the sprite it gives the options to delete it, duplicate or export, click the export option and then when you go into your project upload the sprite which you exported from your computer.

@@greatfifashorts I know this is late, but I would reccomend either going into a vector image editor like Adobe Illustrator (if you use the vector font) and set the opacity to 0 of the o sprite that appears.

oh my god its out yayyyy inside other platforms like roblox, text engines are simple to create with the luau programming language, which makes stuff like pausing text easier. but that is why this text engine is so good and epic, its made in scratch! you dont type to code, you put in blocks and thats how you do it all your work is spectacular and im excited for the rpg! P.S: i heard in the rpg game poll you could vote for a sonic game, so ye that may be coming soon yay

Amazing methods! Maybe in the next episode you could show us how to add input boxes in these fonts instead of the ask blocks. This could help with y/n boxes and naming a character too!

Cool tutorial. That text looks so epic! On a different note, I challenged myself to make a speed to tile height custom block in Scratch. Works very well and fast. At a speed of 40, tile size of 62, and a gravity speed of -1.7, the max tile height the player can reach is 7 tiles up. I've played your game Appel, and found it difficult at times to determine the best y speed for trampolines, especially when you have to play the level just to see how high the player will be launched. A visualizer to show the height would be cool to see, and will make it easier and faster to do trial and error. I also made some code to get the best speed based on how many tiles you want to go up, so we don't have to do so much trial and error.

I just finished making my own frame rate counter. It was a lot easier than I expected, and as a test, I used it on this text engine. The counter ended up working but I was more exited to see the frame rate for this project; and wow... 51 FPS?!

you should cover how to fill pen drawings, as there's no built in feature to do so, and it would help people to make better looking pen games, and it would help me personally to use shading in my game. thank you!

This is an amazing tutorial as usual! However a piece of feedback, you should make the letters red with max brightness so you can change color and brightness by using the built in features besides recoloring every costume 😅

Note: on the first part (fixing letter sizes bug), if you are using pen just hide at start of CLS and show at end of CLS. When you calculate the letter widths, that is the time when the bug occurs so that is the only time where it needs to be hidden

Hey there great tutorial, but I dont really want to to split each letter like you did in part 1. Did you post the fonts somewhere ready to use it, or do we still have to do all that splitting and encoding each character? Plus, can this be done by saving each letter as a sprite? If so what would be the differnce? Thanks so much for all your effort, buddy.
