My sister loves her 2020 Telluride but recently someone backed into the front out of a parking spot (so not fast at all) and the entire safety system had to be replaced @ $3900 and the bumper itself was just fine minus some paint. That tells me this truck aint ever supposed to go offroad

A lot of new vehicles are like that, unfortunately. Broken lights today run upwards of $1K each. I would think that sooner or later insurance prices will start to reign in such asinine form over function designs.

Love the review! Wish Kia would crack down on their dealers with these horrendous mark ups and dealer add one that are non negotiable. Sure it’s priced at $54-55k, at the dealer it’s $65k right now.

Right? I was looking at one this past weekend- $5k markup which apparently is "very low compared to other kia dealerships" and a $600 'paint protection' package that we add to all of our new vehicles as soon as they roll off the truck". I'll pass..

The first Kia in the US, the Sportage, was a pugnacious little off-roader with a low range, skid plates, tire mounted on the back where it’s supposed to be, short overhangs, 8 inch ground clearance and few luxuries. That little guy was a truly capable off-roader, only let down by its 2 liter 4, which still had plenty of grunt for things like off roaring in the sand and over dunes. I owned one, is squeaked a lot, I was a Realtor then, so I bought a Grand Cherokee next.

@@mrpogi23 He’s highlighting how far Kia has come I believe. Compared to that original model, the Telluride is worlds different, but maybe not as “off-roady” as the original Sportage. Even the new Sportage is miles ahead of any Kia from even a decade ago, but I doubt anyone is taking them off-road. I had a 2020 Telluride S AWD and it is the best car I think I’ve ever had. It’s a fantastic family road trip vehicle and it was extremely reliable the entire 3 1/2 years. I worked in Kia in product planning for 2 years as well doing market research on these.

I'd say the 2023 Honda Pilot Trail Sport competes more closely than the Passport does. It would be interesting to see a three-way battle between the Telluride X-Pro, Pilot Trail Sport and Pathfinder Rock Creek as they all should have enough capability for those who purchase from this segment, especially when used for traversing snowy roads.

I'm not sure about everywhere, but everywhere near me, the MSRP of the Telluride is only a dream. The nightmare reality is, you're likely going to pay well _above_ MSRP due to supply and demand. In my area, they add a "market adjustment" of $10k on top of MSRP and are presold weeks before they arrive on the lot.
@rustlesee

KIA and Hyundai are notorious for over inflating their prices. 🤦🏼‍♂️
@citrustaco
@citrustaco Жыл бұрын
@@rustlesee That isn't Kia overinflating the prices. They are still selling them to the dealers well under MSRP. Otherwise, the MSRP numbers would jump up a lot. The dealerships are to blame here because as they get fewer cars in, they want to maintain the same amount of money coming in with fewer cars sold. It's like having 100 oranges and you sell them for $20. But this year, now you only have 20 oranges, but you still want to make the same $20. So you raise the price of oranges at 5x the price.

Unless Kia has made a change for this particular model, they have dropped the spare tire from the 2023 Telluride line. So, if you're out in the boondocks on a country road or on a busy freeway at night and you have a blowout or flat from sidewall damage, the provided "Tire Mobility Kit" is likely to be useless. That being said, the service truck that responds to your call will transport or tow your car to a tire shop, but in many places nowadays the service truck driver is not permitted to carry passengers. If all goes well, maybe it's possible to call a friend or relative to come out and rescue you. Or maybe you can get an Uber pickup. But what if you're off-road somewhere in the wilderness. It could be an exhausting or even dangerous situation. Obviously, a real spare should be onboard, especially for off-road trips.

Seems a lot of cars are dropping spare tires and most consumers aren't going to realize it until they need it. It really irks me. That's what happens when "reviewers" focus on how nice the dashboard is to caress and ignore basic necessities.
@kharakim
@kharakim Жыл бұрын
@@plmn93 Couldn't agree more. Very few buyers will know about the maintenance requirement of GDI engines. When they hit 30-50K miles and start to see a drop in performance and mileage, their Kia dealer will hit them up for anything from $300 to $1200 to deal with the mucked up valves-which, of course, will only be a temporary fix. Few buyers will understand that regular maintenance of the DI valves and ports should be done every 15K or so. Shockingly, the dealers will charge $300 for that maintenance, which involves less than an hour's labor and a $12 can of spray cleaner-an easy DIY job (although, of course, doing it ourself means running the risk that when a serious warranty claim is made sometime in the future, Kia may disallow the claim because one of their dealers didn't do the maintenance).

Those were the dual clutch systems where it was basically slipping the clutch offroad. This is an old school slush box. This should be pretty reliable with a big lumbering, non-turbo V6 and the old school transmission. The 4 cyls in the other Hyundai and Kia products are the ones having issues.

@@trletts - some 4 cylinders. Many come out with a true 6 speed automatic as well. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is one that has both. The high output motor is hooked up to the dual clutch. The lower non turbo motor is hooked up to the 6 speed.

I understand why auto manufacturers put a 3rd row in a midsize SUV. But I laugh every time an adult tries to squeeze in there. As far as I’m concerned, save the third row for the Suburbans and Sequoia’s. Just make sure that the second row has plenty of legroom and everything behind it should be a nice flat area for cargo. The third row is borderline pointless because kids don’t stay small for long.

The manufacturers market these as an off roady outdoor adventure vehicle, and people buy into the image, but they really aren't going to get you very far off the beaten path. Mostly just the image of possibly maybe someday you could go camping is what people want.

Looks good. May not be a great deal compared to it's competitors anymore. It's dual sun roof has limited use and mostly you will keep it close, even if you don't want to. Dashboard is a dull large tablet, which will light up once ignition is pressed. Interior material seems to be mediocre at it's best apart from nice looking seats. Second row seats are not child car seat friendly, if 3rd row has occupants. You will need to remove child car seats before 3rd row passengers could get in/out. Boot space looks decent behind 3rd row seats. Slight price advantage may depend on how many of Telluride buyers are getting it at MSRP? Most of the dealerships are asking for price mark ups and few months' of wait time. Jeep Grand Cherokee L overland may be a better choice though pricier with a more efficient engine option, better/proven off-road capabilities with several modes, premium interior, attractive dashboard, huge functional panoramic roof, much better ride quality (quieter/smoother), child car seat friendly 2nd row and several other goodies like adjustable air-suspension etc. etc., and you may find them at MSRP without any dealer options. Telluride has higher reliability than Jeep Grand Cherokee L, as per different rating sites, however we may get betters stats on that in next few years considering Telluride is there for last 4 years only while 'L' is an even newer vehicle, but powertrain is a proven one, and has been on roads for sometime now. Haven't seen any installed Jeep GCs on the shoulder lane so far, therefore may brush off low reliability of Jeep GC Ls. A vehicle may have different performance when you are testing it in wilderness so will have to see how this Telluride behaves in it's off-road avatar. Nice refresh though.

I'm surprised these advertisements haven't backfired on them.
