Ok fellas, fun fact that rear locker is active to 20mph, then it disengages until vehicle speed is 20 or below. Now for things to do to your new truck that won't hurt its resale value and helps you have a better experience. First I'd remove the 3yr old stock tires and upgrade size to a 265/70/17. It will fit with no rubbing while opening up more available tires to choose from. Adding mud flaps will help that snowy step problem. You already have a bedliner planned which is great but I'd add a tonneau cover for good measure while you're at it. Something else that helps with everyday life is the bed extender. It gives you a trunk like area for your groceries when the cab is full of people. Love the truck.

Nice looking truck! Bags of sand or pea gravel are a must in winter. Not only for weight but also you can throw it under the tires if you get stuck and can’t get traction on the ice or packed snow. Works to make a little track to give room to pull another vehicle out of the ditch as well.

I have had a 2019, 2021 and 2022 rangers, all with running boards to help the kids get in. Im 6ft so I didnt use them at first except to sweep snow off the roof. I put a 2 inch leveling kit on and 265/70r17 all terrain tires and now i use them more often. It took a few weeks learning curve, but now i use them just fine.

Bought a 2020 Ranger Lariat FX4 with 6ft Bed for 33k new awhile back...Not a big fan of the interior or software, but as a truck it's probably one of the best values you can get. 7500lb tow rating and I think had about 1700lb payload handles most day to day needs and the engine is very fun to drive. Makes a perfect first vehicle for college kids that need to drive cross country and is a great spare utility vehicle. The 6ft bed option greatly improves what it can carry, but at the expense of turning back seat area super small . Good for storage, dogs, and smaller kids...

My 2021 Tremor does amazing in the snow. The General Grabbers are mountain snowflake rated and do very nicely. My only complaint is that I can't use snow mode in 2wd. I bought this same truck except had a 2.0L turbo diesel option (in SE asia) was a work truck and drove the wheel off it and put 100k miles on it in 5 years. It was ridiculously good and tough waded through floods and climbed muddy mountains at ease and got 40mpg doing it. I sold it when relocating back to Canada and I miss that truck more than any other vehicle I’ve ever had and I’ve had over 30! Only option I would have gotten was the dual climate zone and that also added a navigation screen etc. living overseas for 2 decades I have seen many Diesel Rangers and owned a few and honestly they typically get you well over 500k miles with proper maintenance.

I mentioned this similarly. Hold it until the new Tacoma, GM pair, and the new Ranger. They can already test it against the new Frontier. I live in Quebec, Canada and snowtires are mandatory. But on my 2WD 1998 Ford Ranger with no traction control, I installed a Ford 8.8 axle with Trac-Lok (factory clutch--type LSD) and it's night-and day! A small 2WD open diff pick-up shouldn't be allowed in snowy parts of the country; they're almost dangerous. The LSD does give me some more traction, but the back end also stays more in check when one wheel hits a patch of ice in a straight line. LSD or lockers will be a must for me in my future vehicles!

Nice truck fellas. It’s not a bad thing having most of the options, but they are manually activated. It really needs mud guards front & rear. I would level it, get a tonneau cover, put some 275/7017 tires. KO2s are good but there’s some really good competitors tires for less $$$ as well that shouldn’t disappoint you. Wit the terrain control that comes with the FX4 package, you should have a good relatively capable truck!

(which is good) Rear lockers in the snow? Tommy knows that is pointless. lol I think it is interesting how many vehicles you have shown of late that allow for rear lockers to be engaged when NOT in 4WD. As far as I can tell , especially the FX4 - it's a contender. It would be a great competitor to the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. You can also run 265 65 17 on the Trailhawk with no cutting (probably need a lift though). Ranger can be built beyond the Cherokee Trailhawk but but a two inch lift on both of them and they'll both be VERY capable! Tacoma TRD , Ranger FX4, Toyota 4 Runner, Toyota FJ and Cherokee Trailhawk - all very very close IMHO stock and or lifted two inches. The guys that can lift beyond 2 inches basically will beat the Cherokee Trailhawk but inside those limits it's very very close. I DO love that Ford let's you buy a stripped down FX4. This sooooooo much showed HOW IMPORTANT TIRES REALLY ARE! Hankook is a Korean company mostly known for their medium-duty cargo truck and semi-truck tires designed for rainy day highway and city driving where that tread design will be OPTIMUM! In Colorado, where black ice and deep snow is a big issue these are NOT the tires for the job. My suggestion is Goodyear Territory for COMBINED city and off-road driving and for PURE 4x4 off-road deep-and-compacted snow rated tires I would suggest Goodyear Duratracs OR Nitto EXO Grapplers! For the amount of driving FTL does in multiple environments where switching tires from city to pure off-road tires multiple times in a year simply isn't cost-effective, it looks like the Goodyear Territory wins out even over the KO2s for this type of mid-size truck! I have said in earlier comments that this Ford Ranger XL/XLT-series is more of a "Ranch Hand" truck and I stand by that so if you are looking for true interior comfort and tech + luxury, you will have to go up several trim levels and another $15,000+ USD extra in price! As a BIG SUGGESTION, remove those front seats and put in Recaro Ergonomic series seats which will literally save your butts during long drives! Before any lift, wrap job or camper and winch accessories, GET NEW RECARO ERGONOMIC SEATS for the front! V

i have firestone destination tires on my f150 they are awesome. i had a set on them on it when I bought it and they are 12 years old and still in good condition so I bought the same tires that I took off. They are good for 70k miles so thats awesome. It is a 1994 f150 4x4 and it had 106k miiles on it when i got it and now it has 112k and its been awesome.

Traded a 2020 Ranger STX Supercab (locking diff no FX4) for a 2023 Tacoma Trail Edition. Ranger was quicker but the10 speed tranny takes a bit to warm up when it gets cold (same as my F150) and the ride is bouncy and feels tippy at times. One of the big complaints on the Tacoma is the seating position but the Taco has a better dead pedal and after road trips from NH to VA to visit my kids, the Taco was a better ride. My biggest gripe on the Ranger was that when I replaced the crappy stock stereo with an Alpine system I lost the Ford Pass. Sucked but after one trip through NYC, Baltimore, and DC using my iPhone hanging off a windshield mount, definitely worth it. Ford should have been embarrassed to put that in a vehicle in 2020.

I have a 2019 Ranger exactly like yours, but the XLT model..... it is really good in the snow. My only gripe is in slush and crud the trailer/tailights plug in the back drivers side gets covered and the computer goes nuts thinking the trailer is plugged in then off every time I use the brake pedal. I have read on the 6G Ranger forum that this happens. I need to put dielectric grease in the plug to stop that. Hope it does not happen to you. Its been a great truck for 2 years, and I now have a little over 50k on it. Thanks for the great videos.

@@ben94gt Ranger5g forums say to put dieletric grease in there. I tried it, still does it. I am still searching for a solution.

Tommy, which 4WD trucks have a problem at times to switch into 4WD-Low? Do all 4WD trucks switch into 4WD-High without a problem? I like the black exterior.

My 19Ranger 2wd handles just fine with the sand in snow. Good tires go a long way.

I have a 2020 F-150 with the rear lock and it disengages the rear locker after 20-25 mph. I think it’s the same with all fords?

Put Clean Snow from a field (not road treated) in Back of Bed for Weight during the Snow driving - as the weather gets warmer - the truck returns to normal... Rehearse and get your outlines straight....

Maybe do a traction test with weight in bed of truck VS no weight. Then how much weight is needed to make a difference if any.

Way better than my FWD S90 D4 without all-seasons tires 😂. For real, I went to a snowy place with that car only with textile chain. Please kids, don’t do that. It was dangerous asf. Next time Imma rent some Ranger

Because the weight of the truck and no snow tires; I think it did very well. Now, add some weight and snow tires and this thing would probably be great.
