Land Cruisers and 4Runners are built for a 20 year lifespan before any major mechanical issues are encountered. I own a 2000 4Runner that has been in our family since new and it has 240K miles and still going strong. Drove it from KY to CO last summer and did some trails on the Alpine loop ...climed over everything without drama and made it back to KY without any issues.

My daughter bought a 2008 4runner with only 32,000 miles, literally owned by an old man who always took the truck to his dealership, two blocks away. She has been driving that truck for three years now, going back and forth from the Detroit area to MTU in Houghton Michigan, for the past three years. She has nearly 95,000 miles on and off road (she's studying forestry) and i never worry about her in the extreme weather because (Henry) has her back. Never needed anything other than two sets of off KO2's and oil changes.

360000 on my 93 Chevy C1500 manual 5 speed. Only replaced OEM radiator, water pump, alternator belts hoses. Same engine using maybe a quart every 5000 miles. Pulled the 17' bass boat and also rv to the lake many times Can't beat it. Bulletproof. I've been through many vehicles and old blue is still going!

The organization I currently work has 16 Honda Odysseys that we use as cargo vans (with rear seats subtracted). My current one a 2013, has 347,000 hard miles with fleet level maintenance (meaning very minimal). These cars are unstoppable.

When I was a kid, my parents go-to family hauler was always a Chevy Suburban. We would go on 1200+ mile trips multiple times a year there and back with the whole family and it was perfect. I even used to sell GM vehicles, and I would see families trade in their Suburbans and Yukon XLs with over 100000 miles after just a couple years of ownership and even more frequently. The answer to why those two vehicles are so high on the list is so simple, and it is that those are the two of the best road trip vehicles you can buy. Same reason I want one now.

The trucks and body on frame suvs lend themselves to durability just from a design standpoint. They are engineered for towing, payload and off road and the vast majority end up being family vehicles and never stressed to their designed use. Most vehicles will last a long time, particularly the power train, if its well maintained. Keeping the fluids changed goes a long way, all the fluids too, not just engine oil.

I will agree with you about the Toyota tundra. I drive a 2016 for work and we have a coworker that drives a 2014, they both have over 335,000 miles on it show no signs of stopping

I have an 02 Chevy Suburban that of course has the reliable 5.3 liter Vortec in it like the Silverado. I've put 384,000 thousand miles on it, on the same engine. I've driven across the country in this truck and it's never let me down. I love this truck!

I own a 03’ Sequoia with 256K, I love it, I take care of her, she takes care of me, very well made suv, very dependable 💪🏼

We own 5 Chevy 5.3’s (Suburbans & Avalanches) with 148k-254k miles on them. There’s a reason why there are so many of them at 20yo still out on the road.

Happy to see my vehicle, 2003 Tundra, taking a spot in the top 5. The powertrain, also found in the Land Cruiser and Sequoia, claimed the top 2. As mentioned the Sequoia is basically the SUV Tundra. Hoping my truck will last me a million miles too! I actually prefer the Sequoia as well. My Tundra was a family hand me down, I’m the 4th to own it! Been serving my family since 2003. It’s got a pretty babies life now. I watched the video where they deconstructed that million mile Tundra to see what state it was in after that many miles. Toyota said they saw no reason why it couldn’t keep going, no notable wear beyond bumps and bruises consistent with “truck stuff.” They’re solid vehicles, the 4.7 is fantastic, plenty of power for most applications and very smooth. Sure the gas mileage is crap but….yea V8 truck…obviously. Great list guys. Thanks always for your work!

I am the original owner of a 2004 Toyota tundra SR5 V6 access cab…. no issues since I bought a new in 2004 from the dealer…. except changing 1 alternator 3 batteries… I did a lot of hauling in a my pick up… still running like a champ!!!! TOYOTA ROCKS!! 👍🏾

TFL, I really enjoy all your guys knowledge and the sharing of it! I believe that sometimes vehicle owners don’t give any fees back on their vehicles. I say this because I’ve owned Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Nissan. In my humble opinion both Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are great pickup trucks. I had a 2001 Chevy Silverado, extended cab z71 that lasted me 255,000 before I had to do anything to the engine. Also had a 2002 GMC Sierra extended cab z71 that had 330,000 before I did anything to the engine. By far, the worst truck I owned has been a 2016 Nissan Titan XD. Everything that could go wrong with a truck went wrong. Electrical - stereo, window and door lock controls, transmission, engine knocking and only was giving me 7 MPG and it had under 35k. Ended up loosing $25,000 on this one. Biggest loss in my life. As always, truly do enjoy your guys videos and the sharing of your opinion and also facts!

Here is the skinny from a school trained mechanic that LOVES Toyota and LOVES Mercedes: I love Toyota in my personal opinion when people ask me about cars I say that : Toyota Honda and Subaru are probably the best cars money can buy. Not to discount Nissan but I've seen electrical issues with them that plague the brand...Now Mercedes vehicles will essentially run forever so will BMW but DO NOT expect to go problem free for your run. This video here is literally 99.999% accurate as nothing is 100% LOL ..but listen to this guy. Now I currently drive a 2015 4Runner and a 2012 C class sport so I am literally like he's spot on. Now I do believe Mercedes recommended draining oil through the dipstick via a pump as it supposedly provided more of an emptying than the traditional drain plug method. I am old school and I drain oil via the plug. Mercedes are classy cars not so much sporty and aggressive as some BMW models but you will NEVER get away neglecting maintenance on these cars as you might the 'forgiving' Toyota. Plain and simple Mercedes are easy to buy used but the issue is not can you buy one but rather can you AFFORD to maintain it. That is the real decision you need to make before buying a Mercedes, BMW, Porshe, AUDI oh...and especially a Range Rover. Please do your research on yearly Cost-To-Ownership. My last piece of advice I will give to you for free yet it has cost me thousands of dollars over 35 years.....Find yourself a specialist in your area that only repairs Mercedes. It won't be cheap but you'll avoid the dealership which does not have your best interests at heart. If you care to drive luxury then be prepared to pay for luxury but support your privately owned vehicle specialists. More often than not they'll be upfront with you and won't rip you off with unnecessary maintenance. Yes there is such a thing!! I am a blue collar like many others just trying to live and enjoy life simultaneously so I am not promoting any particular business. I like my Toyota and I like my Benz..I fix what I can myself and I have to pay for what I cannot do myself. Such is Life. Being very informed is your best weapon. Ja Wohl. Fahrt mit lust!!!!

I drive a 2001 Prius still with 275k miles. Still get between 40 and 50mpg depending on the time of the year. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere other than the fact that you feel like every other car will blow you off the road as they pass you lol

Another car i own that should be in the top 5 is a 2004 lexus ls430. Mine currently has 306k miles and runs like a brand new car as well. Its my daily and such a smooth car. I took it on a 1100 mile road trip to las vegas with the family. Extremely comfortable car

2004 Toyota Sequoia SR5 ,bought with 290,000 for 3400 dollars 2 years ago, has 306,000 miles now changed oil all the time keep watch on fluids , just begun a hirline leak of coolant from rear bypass gasket not aluminum,,still driving and saving for rebuild and runs like a champ.18 years old.

It is hard to separate a good car from a good owner. Half-interval fluid changes, light freeway duty, regular & preventive maintenance, 4 time per year waxing, immediate repairs, garage storage, underbody protection or favorable locations, sun protection, touch up paint repairs, regular body lubrication, high quality replacement parts, tire pressure discipline, careful driving and use, regular interior, under hood and under chassis cleaning, pride of ownership. It takes care, time and money to get the most out of a vehicle. Some long-lived brands (Toyota, Lexus, Porsche) draw more meticulous, wealthier, longevity oriented original owners. Is it more the car or the culture and wealth of the owners?

I used to drive a 2012 Prius C. It was an excellent little car, not a whole lot of power, but it takes you everywhere. When I traded in for a Honda insight, it had 192K miles without any problems. Bought it in September 2011 and traded in August 2013. Drove the Prius C 7 days a week for 2 jobs. Right now, I'm considering buying a used Prius V.

Had 2004 Sequoia, sold at 397000 miles with no issue.

Not surprising Toyota is all over this list. I have an FJ with 215k and it runs like it’s brand new.

I have an 03 V8 4runner with 206k that I drove 44 hours round trip on a climbing trip to Mexico. My wife has an 04 Sequoia Ltd with 199k that has been similarly reliable (plenty of 3-12 hour trips one way), and we off road both. We are a young couple who can’t afford expensive vehicles or maintenance costs; I am amazed and grateful that the cost of ownership on these Toyos is so relatively low compared to other options in our price range. We aren’t alone- the South is crawling with these since they don’t rust down here.

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia with 300k miles, which I purchased brand new. I recently replaced the original alternator and radiator, and my SUV still has a lot of original parts like the starter and exhaust system. I also own a 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. I suspect both vehicles will outlive me.

We have a 2012 Pilot we bought new and we have put 250k plus miles on it. Been a great car. Few issues but still ticking!

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I have a 2005 ML350 with 217K. I have replaced pretty much every engine part and more: almost all engine sensors, fuel injector, fuel pump, charcoal canister, alternator, starter, engine mounts, steering pump, CV joints, rack and pinion, tie rod ends, transmission electric plate, blower motor, fuel filter, water pump, washer pump and reservoir, thermostat, idler pulley, harmonic balancer, auxiliary coolant pump, gear shifter, window regulator, center master switch, and multiple batteries. Engine still runs great and steady. There's always something to do with this vehicle every few months if not sooner. I am able to do most of the above, otherwise, I would have traded it in. It's kept for sentimental value -- my kids grew up in it and my late brother used to own it.

My 1991 Honda CRX DX with a 1.5 L hit 400K miles with the original clutch and clutch release bearing , used as a daily driver and will still go 125 MPH in 5 the gear, owned it now for 18 years.....

It would be interesting to see the data on percentage of personal vs work fleet vehicle for this list. I know a lot of pickup trucks are used in a lot of hard working applications (mining, oil and gas extraction, agriculture etc.), especially GMs and Fords. In my opinion, the pickups would be higher on the list If they were just people haulers that stayed on asphalt everyday, but obviously the that’s not what there meant for so my theory holds no worth lol. But just interesting to think about. 🤷‍♂️

Great video, guys as always. I am surprised not to see a Honda Accord on this list. I see so many older (mid to late 90's) models on the road that I would have thought it would have made the cut. That being said, well done Toyota - such great vehicles!

My parents owned a ‘98 Sienna LE from 2004 to 2014. My dad bought it with less than 80,000 and sold it with 253,000 miles after the front axle shaft gave out. He thought it was the transmission until it was diagnosed. He repaired it but decided to sell it because he went on lots of road-trips and didn’t want to risk any breakdowns out of state.

Not surprised about the Expedition. I have a 97' with over 325K and still running strong. I also have a newer 15' EL model with just over 110K, no issues so far.

Thanks for great list. You guys put good time and effort for the viewers. But I really wish people would understand just having these vehicles does not mean it will go beyond those miles. My dad is driving his second Kia Sedona, not known for its reliability, but first one had 270 thousand before it died without much drama people always talks about. Second one is on 221 thousand and it still goes like new, quiet and smooth and fast enough when needed. ofc seats and all does show wear. Simple oil changes and fluid flushing can extend life of vehicles. And glad to see my expedition making the list. Got 225 thousand and probably will keep it til 400.

I sold cars for 20 years. In my opinion 2004-2006 is a real sweet spot for vehicle reliability! A well cared for model in this year range there's lots of options. Some that stand out to me are The usual Toyota's almost all But others are Tahoe/yukon/suburban I've personally seen many with 500k plus Another is Chrysler Town and country and Gprand Caravan 2000-2007 is the sweet spot they are good for 300,000 And for anyone in need of cheap reliability look at Buick Lesabre 02-05 they can do 400k if well maintained.

The problem with some of these...im looking at you ford...is that they dont stay on the road for these high miles because of reliability but because their owners are willing to deal with the issues and fix them to keep them on the road. For example you can see plenty of high mileage f150s on the road that seem to be held together by duct tape..bubblegum and a prayer...lol.

My parents used to have a mid 2000's toyota sienna LE. They basically bought it new, and that thing was used and abused with my family of 6. It would go on roadtrips pushing past its max payload, and it would go up gravel roads, and it would just do everything that was thrown at it. It made it to around 230k miles until it got wrecked, and it would of still kept going. Overdrive would sometime lurch the vehicle and more things were getting worn, but that minivan survived a lot, and still worked pretty darn well all things considered. After my jeep xj, I'll definietely get an older toyota.

I have a 2010 4Runner and a 2008 tundra, love them both and hope to have them for many more years to come. The 4Runner with 130,000 and the tundra with 155,000 both drive amazingly well for the age. You just can’t beat a Toyota for reliability

I think the point here is that we're seeing a lot of large vehicles, trucks, and Hybrids. People don't want to let these go because of the price to replace them, utility, or MPG. They make them last longer by fixing them rather than scrapping them or selling them to someone else that will drive it for 200K miles.

The longest lasting vehicles are the w123 & w124 models of Mercedes Benz. The 200D versions are well known to last 800k+ kilometers (500k+ miles) and are still being used in many countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Own my 1stgen sequoia for 15 years 280k miles 0 problem just oil change every 5k miles and every 100k timings belt the engine clean as day 1 ❤

It doesn’t seem like we are comparing apples to apples here. Seems like this includes personal vehicles and fleet/commercial vehicles. Guessing all the GMs on the list high up are fleet vehicles, racking up high mileage in just a few years, whereas the Hondas and Toyotas are probably twice as old or more, to accumulate similar mileage.

Doesn’t surprise me at all that Toyota dominated the list. They just flat out know how to build cars. They tolerances are tight the engineering is top notch and the quality of part just fit the bill. American at companies will always play catch up and this is coming from some who owns 2 American cars and 1 Toyota

My 2005 V8 4Runner is at 326k+ miles and still running strong. I've driven it myself for all but about 18k miles as I bought it two years old.

I'll take a Land Cruiser over a Sequoia any day. I'm sure the only reason Cruisers "don't last" as long is that parts are higher-quality (thus more expensive) so they get totaled easier.

Loved your list of 20 most reliable cars. Not surprised with all the Toyotas but thought the 4Runner would be higher than #12. I bought a 2004, supposedly from Texas, in 2017 for $6,000. Could probably sell it tdoay for not much less. Mileage was unconfirmed but I estimate about 140K. Have over 233 K plus now and have NO PROBLEMS till lately. Last two years replaced all 4 brakes, calipers, rotter’s, battery, alternator and radiator. Tires a few years ago. Nearly spent original purchase price on parts. Can’t imagine anything better on snow or ice. Has 2 or 4 wheel drive. My wife prefers it on snow to her 2020 Subaru AWD Forester (too light) as do I. Will use your list when it's time to trade. Acquired my 06 gx470 in Oct 2019 w/ 280k miles. Don't really drive it as much since I bought it months before the pandemic, and wfh 99% of the time since. Now has 303k, and outside of normal preventative maintenance, the most costly and uncommon things I had replaced were the rusted out cat back exhaust and AC compressor.

The issue with this list is that I don’t think it shows the years. The difference between a 2002 Sequoia and a 2022 sequoia is more than a 2022 sequoia and a 2022 expedition. Older vs newer versions of these models are not remotely related due to emission standards, materials, etc.

Most impressed by the cars on the list. Truck and SUV replacement costs make repair bills more palatable. Owners are more willing to spend thousands fixing a high mileage Land Cruiser than a Camry in similar condition.

The thing is, those chevy 5.3 can go 350k miles, but everything else breaks. The dirt secret on this list is that Toyotas rarely break along their long lives...

I’ve done some research on why hybrid cars are more reliable than ICE only cars, and the best I can figure is the hybrid system uses electric to assist in initial acceleration, which is the area where the most wear and tear on traditional drivetrain. The electric hybrid spares the wear on traditional drivetrain and improves reliability and longevity, so long as you clean your hybrid filter often

I got an 06 4x4 white sequoia with 282k miles and drives like a new truck. Original paint also shines like new. Never selling it

I own a 1997 GMC Savanna 3500 sle with 238k miles, two 1998 Toyota sienna XLE one with 249 k miles and the second one with 435k miles, a 2003 Toyota Sequoia 4wd limited with 260k Miles, a 1995 4runner sr5 with 265 k miles and finally and 2013 Toyota Prius with 170 k miles...all running great and I have taken every single one of them on long roads trips and still going strong!

Just FYI- I had a 2005 Escalade, 423k! Yes! I loved that vehicle..drove all over USA, pulled a 19' retro camper. Original brakes, highway miles, one driver..no major issues ever, routine maintenance

Not Surprised at all, with Sequoia at number 1. I have a first Gen. 02 that I bought new and have had zero issues. I am at 329/ xxx and still rolling just change that timing belt every 100k and you are good.

I had a Honda Accord; could never get the air to work properly, and the cloth interior struck me as a weak point. I then bought a new Honda Odyssey, lot of problems with it, serious stuff like the tranny and engine. But I liked the high ride position and carrying capacity, so after I dumped it I bought a 2014 Ford Flex. Outstanding vehicle - I now have 126,000 miles on the Flex, and except for having the rear brakes replaced and recent new plugs (which are both maintenance), it has NEVER had a repair. It still has the original front brakes. No rust at all, and drives like the day I bought it (except for an annoying dash rattle). I can't help but think that our domestic brands are underrated . . .

I’ve always been a die hard GM guy. Specifically Tahoes and Yukons but the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned was my 2011 Explorer XLT with the v-6. 200k on the dash and have done nothing to it until recently. Serpentine belt snapped so I had to replace the alternator, starter and battery and the aC compressor. That’s it! Third row is spacious and still decent storage behind the third row.

We have 2009 Camry hybrid… no issues, paid for, great mileage, comfortable… a keeper.

I’ve owned FCA vehicles, GM vehicles, Hondas, and Hyundais. But now I own a 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and a 2021 Toyota 4Runner Limited Nightshade Edition and let me tell you that I’m so happy to own them, never have had any problems with them yet cause they are still brand new but like the FCA vehicles was having problems at 800 miles already, even tho they were still brand new. Toyota knows how to build vehicles that will last a long time, it is worth every penny to buy one!!!.

That answer is easy...FJ Cruiser...FJ Cruiser...FJ Cruiser. Drive a 2007 FJ with 250K plus miles and it's just getting started. Look in the staff parking lots of many hospitals around here in Northern New England (NH, VT, ME) and you'll see multiple FJ's.

I am old enough to remember when Japanese cars first started flooding the North American market, people knew back then that their quality and reliability was second to none. The people at Toyota just do things different and it's an actual cultural or Japanese mindset to make things so reliable and then stick with it for a long time to fine tune and make it even better. Change is slow but they don't have to change as often as others to bring in customers. They make good cars and trucks and the numbers for resale and reliability sell their cars and trucks for them.

I have this truck bought it used 60,000miles 5yr old. Today that truck is 22 years old still runs . Very reliable vehicle also owns Tacoma, Tundra.

That survey missed quite a few, esp 1st generation Acura MDX and Honda Pilots. Local Honda/Acura dealers typically have several of these on their highest mileage lists. My family has owned 1st gen 4-5 MDX and Pilots since new, all are over 300k miles and one is even close to 500k miles!

my 2004 Honda Pilot is still running with 178k miles no problems at all it had 4 or 5 owners before my family bought it back in 2012

I have a 2000 Tundra with the 4.7 and a 2012 Tundra with the 5.7. I love them both and will keep them for many many year until the wheels fall off! Haha

My ‘99 SILVERADO with small V8 lasted 22 years and 250000 miles. With out any major problems. I sold it because I moved to snow country and it was 2wd and older and I needed AWD or 4wd. I miss that truck.

The Sequoia was not hand built before its move to Texas, we built it at TMMI (Indiana) on the same line as the Highlander, just in lower numbers.

I love my Toyotas. Had an 06 highlander 3.3 v6 for 12 years and it was very reliable and comfortable. Passed it down to my brother in law with 200k miles and it still going strong. Now I have my 2018 Sequoia SR5. What a truck. The space and level of comfort is amazing and the V8 what an engine. Yeah it’s a bit thirsty but it’s a great family hauler. It has 48k miles so let’s see how many years and miles I’ll get out if it!!

The key formula is models that share powertrains with multiple models from a brand. Toyota 4.0L, Honda V6s, GM 5.7 (and you should have went back to the 3.8L). Usually N/A is better for longevity. A lot have an issue, but its often known and the fix is either cheap, or once done basic maintenance is all that is needed.

We live in Alaska and our 2008 Silverado 4X4 has been great...350k miles...the only major expense was new ball joints every 100k.

If I'm going to buy an older gx470 with higher miles, what do I look for other than a receipt of the water pump/ timing belt? I mean specifically other than any other used cars?
