exactly. We caretake for an older couple and their ranger rover was in the shop more than it was in the garage. This went on for about 6 years before they finally just sold it for pennies on the dollar. It ended up with an electrical draw that couldnt be fixed without some crazy dollar amount to replace the whole harness or something. It was pretty good in the snow and drove well.

Love the video! I think it would’ve been better having the new Range Rover as well, but, we got to understand that they cannot comer across all the vehicles needed at times. When Land Rover introduced this long wheelbase model I was working for a JLR dealership and they advised us against any modifications due to the stretched wheelbase. These long wheelbase models were intended for mainly on-road use. I think all three vehicles here did well considering that all of them were wearing street wheels and tires. If I want reliable, yes, the Lexus takes the crown and drive home with me. But, after working for JLR for about 6 years, there’s something special about the Rovers. I’d still buy one with the S/C V8 engine.

going on the 10 year old 4wd system in the rover that was pretty damn good, I've been offroad in both the l405 and the new one and have to say the new one has a faster responding system, with better programming to tackle tricky terrain, it also has better articulation than the old one does. it would be interesting, personally though both rangies I've driven have had the 3.0 tt diesel, which with the extra toque delivery really sold me on them. love your work guys!

Mercedes while not as OR oriented(obviously)would compete with the Lexus for all the other check boxes. Accept long term cost might be higher for license and insurance. Maintenance. But that is not to say it has repair issues. Just that Mercedes going in for regular service intervals will be more expensive than a Lexus. Trust me, I have had Mercedes, they are under rated for long term reliability. Older generations, could get a lemon. But modern day Mercs are just as reliable in my experience. And I have had both Lexus and Mercedes. (and BMW, along with a slew of others lol)

An excellent comparison and luxury SUV display. So despite popular reviewer opinion, these big wheel/tire luxury SUVs are not completely useless off-road after all. Imagine what they could do with a dedicated off-road wheel/tire combo. Definitely would like to see the latest Range Rover go through the test, particularly with rear wheel steering. Well if I'm not mistaken the Lexus is a body on frame so essentially a truck while the others are unibody. Nevertheless, they all made it through the course (w/street wheels/tires) so that's the true decider for any of their off-road capabilities. With the right tire wheel package, they can only do better.

I had commented this about a video where your dad and I think it was Alex on Auto's compared the LX 570 to the Range rover offroad and I said that with the hydraulic suspension of the lexus, in the most jacked up state the car becomes its most comfortable as the hydraulic actuators that offer the dampening and raise of ride height of the system open up when the wheels are in compression to offer more damping. This is why after the lexus drove out of the rollers it bounced so much, its like the E active body control of the gls on a baja course. I feel you havent fully understood how it works. The air suspension has to maintain certain forces to keep the car up and cannot react as fast as the hydraulic actuators in a hydraulic suspension system that is why an air sprung setup is so jiggly offroad. Also lexus does offer a offroad edition with 18' alloy wheels. The mercedes is also a GLS and those aluminium skid plates wont be so good during rock crawls, you need steel ones like on the lexus

IF you want that plush ride with class leading tech. and reliability to match, the Mercedes. IF you want the short term ownership experience of a RR(under warranty)it would suffice I suppose for the experience. Is it capable OR? Yes. Is it the King? People sleep on lexus, that vehicle is pretty underrated, i own am lc500, and its one of the best vehicles i own especially when you are cruising at 40mph, you feel like you are in a vacuum its so isolated that you hardly hear road noise, and those mark Levinson speakers are just goated

I had bought a 17 LX new, kept it for three years before selling it. The vehicle felt cheap inside, constantly had the alarm going off randomly, door lock actuators failing, and the brakes were inadequate for towing causing severe shaking. Lexus rides in their hard earned reputation from the first half of their existence where unrivaled quality was built in. They are clearly all built to a much cheaper standard in recent years.

What’s worse is that dealerships are making them up. If only we could get the base-trim LC300 sold overseas that costs around $65k USD instead of the top-trim LC200 we got discontinued in the US…

I’ve found that the Range Rover and G 63 (not the GLS) are the best of both worlds for my needs/preferences. Had the LX, nothing terrible, but not particularly good either. I imagine the LX would have been great off-road only.

Toyota did me a temporary favor by dropping the recovery hooks and V-8 from the pickup lineup in 2023. I'm still a Toyota guy at heart but this time I wound up ordering a v-8 Tremor (with the Torsen front diff) and am getting around 20 mpg or more combined and it has performed Very well off-road. The big question is if it will be reliable long term. Peace, Love!!

Why wouldn’t it be? The notion of Toyota somehow being more reliable than everyone else is nonsense.
@jamisonjamisonx

@@tylermacconnell217 All auto manufacturers need to spend as little as possible + make as much as possible per vehicle (= profit margin). All auto manufacturers spend their money on vehicles differently. Toyota often lags behind other manufacturers for the latest tech and "newer" powertrains, but Toyota has always invested far more into engineering their vehicles for longer, more reliable performance. For example, if you've been waiting for a hybrid power train option in the 4runner, you've been waiting a very long time, but the 4runner has arguable one of the most reliable powertrains in the world. The Landcruiser is known to be engineered to last 20+ years (every single component of the vehicle). The big 3 U.S. auto manufacturers will give you newer and more tech and features, but they don't spend the money on over-engineering like Toyota does. If you buy your cars new and you're only planning on keeping your vehicle for 2-5 years then getting the latest, coolest stuff is fine and you won't likely really notice much difference (although with the only Dodge I owned I spent 3 different days at the dealer service shop getting various electrical and mechanical issues fixed...I've never once been near a service shop in the 2 Toyotas I've owned). I owned a FJ Cruiser for 13 years and when I sold it, it drove exactly as it did the day I took it off the lot (from 9 miles to 97K miles)...every mechanical part, button dial, everything worked exactly as it did when I bought it. I drove it offroad in Utah, many long road trips, commuted to work and back every day, it was absolutely driven...and still felt brand new. So, in short, yes, it is true that Toyota is more reliable (because that's where they spend their money) than other manufacturers...and the resulting data also proves it...just search for "most reliable auto brands" and every single credible source will list Toyota and Lexus in the top 3 every single year (with Ford, Dodge, and Chevy usually being at or very near the bottom).

I'm 29 and have had 3 Range Rovers since I was 19. I love them and will buy one every 3 to 4 years, until they go full EV! However, I do always buy a separate dedicated off-road use adventure rig, which is currently a 4Runner TRD Off Road, but IMO there is no topping being in the Range Rover's interior! I loved this! Thanks!

I’d argue ‘rock crawl’ modes are not the best test on rollers. Rocks tend to offer grip whereas a ‘mud’ mode would simulate lose slip more realistically for the roller
@pablomoreno1999
@pablomoreno1999 7 ай бұрын
Not exactly. Because rocks are supposed to offer high traction but be very irregular, the chances of lifting tyres is very high, so rock mode is usually the most aggressive since you get wheels on the air (no resistance) and the opposite being on a high traction surface (no slipping which means very high load so more torque is needed to turn it) Mud or sand however offer way lower traction. So you want slipping and power. Which means less brake action in favour of trying to maintain momentum. No point in trying to crawl in mud or sand because you're going to break traction MUCH more easily
