( www.brightonFordCo.com ) While trucks have definitely gotten more expensive over the years, we didn't just want to keep harping on the $100K-level trucks folks rarely buy anyway. What good deals are out there? Andre and Roman cover several local-area dealers around Denver to see which has the best deals on new full-size (half-ton) trucks!

Great video! Loved the focus on more “affordable” trucks. I am buying at the end of 2024. I am leaning midsize with a max budget of $45,000 plus/minus $2,500. Given that we tow a small 2,900 lb camper and haul camping gear, we will cross shop base trim 1/2 ton 4WD trucks as well.

@@dmo848 I am a Frontier fan with lots to like about the truck. Unfortunately, the Frontier tends to have less payload than I would want for my needs. I would like about 1,500 lbs of payload and most Frontiers that I have seen are averaging 1,100 to 1,300 lbs (at best).

You'll have a hard time finding a mid size that has 1500lb payload. That would be a pretty stripped down truck, likely need to be ordered. They'll have the higher trims that weigh more.

The Ford work truck shown here is a pretty good example. Bare bones for $40,000 in 2024. $1 in 1980 is equivalent to $4 in 2024, so it would be like paying $10,000 for it in 1980. The 1980 F-150 had a MSRP of $5700-$18,700. So those days almost still exist as long as you want it in white 🙂

@@omardevonlittle3817 Average US salary in 1980 was $9,365 and Average salary today is $59,428. So the average salary has kept up with that bare bones F-150, but I think the low salary and high salary skew today's average more. No data to back it up, but I think there is a smaller percentage of people making the average salary now than there were in 1980. In 1980 I also don't think Americans viewed a daily cup of $6 starbucks as a necessity or spent $10 on a McDonalds combo for lunch 4 times a week. What most people view as a basic necessity today would have been covered by free black coffee at home and a few cents worth of eggs for breakfast instead.

In 1991, I bought a new Isuzu base pick-up truck for $5,999 plus 6.5% tax, as advertised by the dealer in the newspaper. I visited the dealership at 9 am as it opened and presented a copy of the ad to the General Manager. The GM was not happy that I paid in small bills that I had saved from about three years' worth of tips. I chose the Isuzu over the Toyota because the latter had a vinyl seat, a 5-speed manual transmission instead of the 4-speed in the Toyota, and air conditioning was an additional $800 on the Toyota, and I did not want the dealer aftermarket A/C. Additionally, I was hesitant about having a car payment, and as a 21-year-old, I couldn't afford full coverage insurance. I still miss that truck to this day.

It's because they fancy them up with a bunch of completely unnecessary stuff as standard equipment that used to be optional or not even available before. That and inflation but if anything they need to bring more basic stuff back like manual transmission, crank windows, and make more standard cab trucks. Also only put the mandated safety equipment in the bare bones models like seat belts and a single front impact airbag on each side. Although they make it a little more collision safe in most cases having 10 airbags in your vehicle when only 2 are mandated adds a lot of cost.

The problem with base models is they don't exist anymore... they're basically all luxury trucks now. I looked at a "BASE" ford f-250 XL diesel this weekend and they "only" wanted $67,000 for it! LOL All of the safety and emissions junk, followed by all the tech stuff makes these trucks insane to purchase. I don't need a TV screen in my dashboard. Also PS, if you need a feature to help you back your trailer, you shouldn't be pulling one in the first place. They make "trucks" now for dads living in subdivisions that haul their kids back and forth to soccer practice, and forgot about the people using them for work. Trucks are basically just a station wagon at this point. Ok, i am done yelling at the sky now, carry on!

It does ALL the required truck stuff and pushes a snow plow all winter. I bought it for $900 and put about $400-600 a year in parts in it. SO about 1/3 a months NEW TRUCK payment. It's not pretty but it's paid for. There are LOTS of them out there, buy a good one and learn how to fix it, the old trucks are simple to work on... cheers from NW Ontario Canada.

The Ford Maverick is a very affordable truck. The Maverick can carry many different things from dirt bikes, snowblowers, refrigerators, kayaks, loam/dirt/bark mulch. It can tow a 5x8 trailer and that is enough for my occasional junk removal that I have to do. I highly recommend the Ford Maverick to anyone that is thinking about buying it. I have driven mine 45,000 Miles and it drives amazing, the steering is like non other. The low bed height is also another amazing perk when loading heavy things. I mostly use it to transport my E-Bike which is around 70 Pounds and I am very glad that the bed is low when loading and unloading. It is also the hybrid, I average 39 MPG. For $23,000 after my options and all add on fees people can not believe how much truck you get for such little money. I also drive my truck in three New England winters and I have not gotten stuck yet with FWD, I currently have Firestone Destination LE/3 Tires on it. I hope people looking for affordable trucks consider the Ford Maverick. Thank you for the videos TFL, God Bless- Evan

And there is a lot filled just outside of Ypsilanti Michigan. People are not buying these trucks. They are too expensive, so Ford cannot move inventory. Therefore they are being stored in the parking lots of previously disused Ford offices. Each week I watch another line of them drive fresh from the factory and into the lot. Just to rot there.

While looking for trucks, make sure they have at _LEAST_ a 6.5' bed (so narrow 8' things can go diagonal, or at least not stick out red flag length), altho preferably 8' - because the point of a truck is to haul crap IN THE BED. No longer than 20' overall. A club cab is OK with rear-hinged doors, but NO "full-sized" rear doors, also no pillar between the front and rear doors and the back seat must fold out of the way leaving a flat (ish) floor with no brackets sticking up so you can put tools inside. Anything else is a car or SUV - not a truck.

Nice try. Thank you. You nicely 😮illustrated the customer conundrum. We struggled to pay $650 per mo for 5 years with $5k down in the competitive market of 2019, for a sales price of $35k for a carefully equipped mid-range 4wd crew cab. Today that same vehicle is an impossible $1100 per month, while the dealer/manufacturers profit margin has expanded from ~$6k to ~$20k. I'm sitting it out for a few more years. Competition and over supply will return again as market forces return. At that point end year sales prices will approach at least $10k -$15k less than where they are today. Thanks. But No thanks. Doesn't mean that much to me. $60k in my pocket is worth much, much more than a new modest truck in my driveway. Lord, needed to earn $100,000 to put it there! Work a full year for a truck? Wish I had got it sooner. I'm a fan of 4 cyl big piston engines for torque. I think they sound better than a small V8. Big pistons make a big bang. I like watching many of your videos especially covering the less equipped trucks. My 2005 GMC with 5.3 without valve and lifter troubles gets a solid 20 mpg on highway. Burns no oil. Has 122K miles. Mechanics at my Chev dealer all want the truck and say better to keep it.

The only truck i would take is the Maverick. Or a midsize, which you guys kinda of avoided. But those prices are crazy!!! For full-size trucks!

Funny how Chevy still manages to style their trucks after the kid with the upside down face from Family Guy 😂😂

lol yeah i kind of see it. It's also funny how Ford and their fanboys mocked the stacked headlight look for years when it was a key styling point of GM trucks, but now that Ford can't help but put stacked headlights on all their trucks, it's no longer mocked.
