I love jeeps but the Gladiator that I saw at the dealership last week had a sticker of 81k and change. Thats nuts. For the difference in price I would get the Bison, add a 5 inch lift and 37 inch tires and probably still be less than the jeep. I still wish jeep would bring back the scrambler.

TFL >>> you have no idea how invaluable your vehicle reviews are to me and the rest of the public; we are very grateful for all of the time and effort that you all at TFL do to bring this footage to us, thank you, thank you, thank you! Obviously, the ideal situation for when one is considering the purchase of a new vehicle is to be able to view and test drive the vehicle in person. However, even with a test drive there are a lot of things that one will be unable to learn; here's where you guys come in ... thanks to your testing of vehicles in their respective elements we get to learn a great deal more than we ever could with any ordinary test drive. By viewing a certain vehicle in different videos that you have prepared one is able to get a very good idea about the pluses and minuses of a vehicle. Allow me to elaborate ... me myself upon viewing the Jeep Gladiator at a car show I was quite impressed. But I am obviously at a disadvantage with the manufacturer who makes sure that their vehicle is positioned "just so" and the lighting is perfect and the stance, etc. an attendee at such an event has no chance ;-) Then the more I got to see this vehicle reviewed, the more I could see unappealing aspects of it. In the case of other vehicles it was the opposite, I ended up developing an appreciation for something that I had initially thought was not so good, or that I had no particular interest in. So ... believe me, what you guys at TFL do is very, very invaluable and we are very very grateful to all of your efforts and presentations; because no matter whether we agree with your comments and reviews or not, we are learning a great deal thanks to you. So once again, I thank you TFL team for all of your time and effort that you put into bringing us this wonderful material, you guys are awesome! ;-)

Every truck will have advantages/disadvantages. We all knew what was going to happen with the lines taken when testing the departure etc. Both are nice rigs, just drive em’ knowing their limitations and that’s when they will both truly shine in different scenarios. When speaking off road, you can’t just focus on engine output with regards to torque. Transmission gear ratios, transfer case reduction and axle ratio all play a part in determining torque at wheel. The Jeep has a 4:1 t-case vs. 2.72 for the Chevy.

I just bought a new ZR2! First brand new vehicle. Have a 96 Tacoma short box regular cab. Also have a 2010 Tundra also short box regular cab. Haven't had a GM since my 96 GMC Silverado. I do a lot of off roading (no mudding or bashing) and more often than not I pull my little offroad trailer. My wife and I camp almost every weekend in the Canadian Rockies and we get a lot of use out of our trucks and have become somewhat Toyota loyal. Needless to say I was actually a bit apprehensive looking at a Chev but I read a ton of reviews I test drove the ZR2 and was really impressed. I got a white one with the bed bar and lights and of course it had to have the same engine I test drove, the little turbo dmax. I get my truck on Tuesday. So excited! 😀😀😀

Remember Roman gears multiply torque. Horsepower is the rate work is done. torque is NOT always what you need when 4x4ing. Thats why you have a two speed transfer case. Try some soft dune sand in 4 low vs 4 hi to see the major difference.
@erikscott5709
@erikscott5709 5 жыл бұрын
You just touched on one of my major pet peeves. Folks, in an engine that's turning, horsepower and torque are intimately related. At each and every rpm, from bogged down below idle to way off the top of redline, your engine makes torque. Take that torque (in foot-pounds), multiply by the rpm you're turning at that instant, and divide by 5252. That gives you the horsepower you're making. There are 52 cards in a deck, so it's an easy number to remember. People that think "it has plenty of horsepower but not enough torque" are really saying "I need (or need to use!) a lower gear". Remember, kids - a 2010-2015 Prius has 500 ft-lbs but only 150 HP. It's not doing big, smokey burnouts, is it? (The electric motors make max torque at zero rpm...) I will admit that a "peaky" engine, one that makes max torque near redline, isn't pleasant to drive. But I'll maintain that what people casually call a "torquey" engine is really just one that won't keep making torque as it revs. A good and very readable discussion is at www.epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/power_and_torque.htm

Marshall Williams The big problem would be the price. If I couldn't justify the price for the Bison ( which I can't) then that goes double for what Jeep would demand for a J6 spec'd out to match. The way FCA's finance's look like lately, you know darn well they wouldn't discount anything in the Wrangler line, especially if it's got a Rubicon badge slapped on its ass. Jeep and Ram are the only things FCA'S got that's making them money.

As a former tactical motor vehicle operator/instructor, I agree. Articulation also isn't quite as important with traction-aided diffs at both ends, as military HMMWVs have shown with their torque-biasing diffs and full independent suspensions. Taking those approaches and departures at an angle, where possible, would minimize the scraping. One just has to be more careful to not roll.

Thanks for the Bison v Gladiator match up. Interesting to see the departure angle. Larger tire are almost a most for more clearance. For running larger tires is the diesel's torquey engine the better choice for Gladiator with the 2-inch lift and 37-inch tires? Now high tech features is cylinder deactivation and computers that run everything from the Engine to the transmission to the exhaust system. Now as a new vehicle owner I hope that all this technology is made well and will last, but if we're being honest it probably won't because they design things to have an 'expected lifespan' and that's pretty short because the longer your vehicle runs the longer it will be until the vehicle manufacturers make money again from your new purchase.

I own a Wrangler JL along with another primary daily driver vehicle, a Ford Expedition. I would not recommenced a Jeep JL/Gladiator if its going to be your only vehicle or daily driver.
