Every car needs some kind of exhaust system. When you want something better than you can buy off the shelf, or something more unique, you'll need to know how to build it from scratch with nothing more than some mandrel bends. In this episode, Justin the Fabricator breaks down the fabrication of a complete exhaust from start to finish on a Maza FD RX-7.

So, for exhaust fabrication (DP, MD, catback), its better (less expensive) to use solar flux for back purging, than back purged with argon? I am guessing its a matter of money?

What about the back side of where you welded those hangers? Were you able to get any flux in the pipe behind them and if not with the tension and vibration is there any risk of cracking?

I am going to school to be a welder and I'm currently building a new exhaust for my car. I straight piped it a year ago and this time I'm doing an actual exhaust entirely from scratch including a custom muffler. This video helped me a lot to be sure everything in this exhaust is fine tuned when it's all said and done. Thanks so much

Great video as usual. I'm really looking forward to your HTP review. I've had one for a while and haven't had the time to tinker with it much. I'm in the process of moving, but I did disconnect my stove to borrow the breaker so I could try out the welder. Welding is way more important than eating!

I love you’re style! I’m brand new to your channel. My dad started a muffler shop in the 70’s, he and I have worked together for years. I have no book education in welding but he taught me a great deal. October of last year he passed suddenly and now I’m here learning with no safety net. I completely agree that in taking down the part as much as needed is a life quote of a good welder/ fabricator! My ears like certain tone like everyone, but if you make your customers happy then you’re doing it right!

There's nothing more fun than making exhaust and the different sounds that you get' especially in the old days (cars, tractors) when you could play a little more with that. But I enjoy that part of a build when making go-karts or off road toys. Enjoyed the video. The sound was awesome.

Like you said, exhaust is a personal preference! This one is well made, which is what really matters. While I enjoy a well muffled rotary, because you get the full range all the way from a smooth buzz, to a furious scream, some wants all of the fury, all of the time. And that is perfectly fine! A rotary never sounds bad anyway! It looks great with the twin tips as well!

@12:45 I wholeheartedly subscribe to (and practice) the "Take it out, make adjustments, put it back in, repeat at least a dozen times" method. I watched the whole exhaust series and then recently managed to pull off fabricating my first ever exhaust system, using a builder's kit. Aluminized 2.5"mild steel and MIG with CO2. It's not pretty but but it's effective... and it'll get it done for my off road project. I should have gone with the V-band clamps from the start but it's not too late to add a pair. The best part is that it all comes out in two assemblies with just a few bolts. None of it is trapped in the chassis. I'll call that a win... Thanks for a great series!

Nice work. I like the sound of my V8’s but for that engine it sound awesome. I have been dabbling with rig welding exhaust and find your videos very helpful. Now all I need is a lift and some good band saws. Saw your video on good saws as well. But working out of my house with attached garage I can’t justify or have room for cool tools like that. So I have been purchasing angles. And thanks for the hook up on that as well.

You're right, sometimes there is no proper way of doing something and you just need to eyeball it. About the tension in the exhaust, it is better to have the exhaust hang in a relaxed state. This will minimize vibrations and unwanted noises. Limit hanger movement if the exhaust swings around too much. Nice video and great work!

I wish I had a bandsaw, those really do make custom exhaust/ tubing work much easier. Exhausts are some of my favorite welding projects. I just finished a stainless axle back section for a racecar to replace a blown out muffler. I will have to try some of that flux, back purging it with argon was a bit of a pain. Very nice work, and nice car. Im sure it was a bit loud with only the resonator but if thats what the customer wanted that is all that matters.
