Good going. I'm happy to know that you are enjoying your bow. I would like to make one correction however. I don't actually specialize in making heavyweight bows, however I will make them and have made many. Thanks, BigJim

Ever try and work ebony before ? I know nothing about bows,but lumber,I know all about. The guy who made that beautiful thing used profanity to the very highest degree throughout the entire process... You’d cull through over a thousand bucks of wood just to find suitable pieces. That’s a truly amazing piece of craftsmanship,It is probably Musium worthy.

Well Tex... that's a great looking bow. Big Jim's is a great bow... and in relation to some other bow makers... Big Jim's is about the most affordable of them all... but with top shelf materials and workmanship! Some day I may own one too. but Tex....?? 100lbs ??? Your Crazy !

I've been watching this dude for awhile, and you can't help but love him. Doesn't take himself too seriously, and makes great videos. As a fellow nerd, I love skyrim also 🤣. I tried to make a #100 bow out of Osage, but the stave was too thin. Didn't realize until I had already gotten deep into it.

LOL, I just play in the back yard. I started at 45 and went to 60. I have a Monarch, 62" that measures at 60" when stringed. The riser is 19". I want 80# limbs but they dont go over 60 as far as I know. I don't wish to pay a gobledegook for a custom bow like that beauty you have there. I am considering getting 66" 55# limbs and 62" 30# limbs and clamping them together on my riser with the shorted ones cut just under the stringing ends. I would clamp the shorter ones just inside the larger ones towards the inside and have the top the where it could slightly slide up and down with the curve draw. Its a thought anyway. I have a draw scale so I can test it. Nice job on drawing and shooting that bow. I was told on You Tube by mostly people that shoot 25 to 30 pounds that 60 is real heavy and that I shouldn't want to go heavier. I shoot the 60# 200 shots a day. I stared with 45# as I mentioned at 48 shots a day about 3 months ago and worked up to 60 x 200. I think I can go 80, and if nothing else I could go 80 for a couple of dozen sets then drop down. Anyway, Happy Shooting/Hunting.

Exactly how powerful is it compared to a compound bow
@shockwave6213
@shockwave6213 4 жыл бұрын
It probably puts out the same kinetic energy as an 80-90 pound compound bow. But arrow weight is far more important in recurve and longbow hunting than speed. Also, keep in mind that if a compound bow were to not have a center cut shelf, it would likely shatter any carbon arrows you might normally use trying to get around the riser.

You have close to 5+ inch in front of the riser, and you in a vid mentioned that your arrows are 30 inch.. So I would say you are short drawing in the vid then, look yourself..
@TexGrebnerOutdoors
@TexGrebnerOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
My arrows are 30inches from the nock to where they are cut but remember I am using a real heavy point so it is longer but I am not sure how you can tell how much of my arrow is out front of the riser when it is from an over the shoulder angle. you seem to have a lot of mental energy put into trying to undercut me. But if that is how you want to be then go for it. My draw is 27, and I literally had just gotten the bow So, I will admit I may have been off in my draw the first 3 shots out of the bow on a cold day.
@tmoanpumba5487
@tmoanpumba5487 6 жыл бұрын
I just thought it was interesting that its supposed to be a 100 lb bow, but you are actually shooting 85 lbs or so if drawing 27" but more likely closer to 75-80. I was thinking that if you ordered a 80 lb bow to the 29 inch and it being lighter, you being able to draw the 29", it may actually be faster and work better for you...
@ricksmith7370

Hey Tex, how much did Jim's Bow set you off for? I want to order one and just need to know so as to decide Big Jim or Acadian Woods, What say you? Well anyway, yea I too love the Elder Scrolls franchise and I own all the games including the shitty online version. I use an Imperial that goes by the name "Izbetter". And yes, I am an archer lol! Both in the game and out. I love your videos! man they keep me entertained and more importantly informed as you are very knowledgable on many outdoor stuff. Much more than people give you credit for. Keep these videos coming and stay safe. And please don't shoot yourself again Tex.

It depends on what you want out of a bow, who you should buy from.
@MiguelDiaz4469
@MiguelDiaz4469 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick response Tex, Yea well I am pretty much a strong guy who actually shoots at 55 to 60 pound bows on average but wants to upgrade another 40 to 50 pounds in pull for emergency purposes, you know SHTF, Zombies apocalypse, Aliens, and dinosaurs want to take back the earth ECT>>> LOL! no but seriously, I want a strong bow for probably the same reason you did, like hunting anything anywhere type scenario and because people like us can! I was looking at the Acadian woods bow and have to admit that they are indeed an eyeful of eye-candy, at the end of the day I want something that not only looks good but also that I will use and not worry too much about putting any scratches on it. Big Jims bows kind of fit the bill here and is who I am leaning more towards. Hopefully, I can wait to see what your decision would be if you were me and then I can make a determination to finally commission one or the other for my first custom bow. Yes, I am looking for about an 85 to 100# bow and it has to be takedown with that black ebony which I was thinking about no lie about 3 months ago and your video finally brought it up again.
@TexGrebnerOutdoors
@TexGrebnerOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Well then put in an order for a big Jim Monarch take down. you put 100 bucks down on it and then pay monthly and because the wait time is 12months ish then you will be able to pay off the bow by the time your bow gets built. I would say, sure go for an 75 to 85ish draw so you don't have to be like me and pay a crazy ammount of money for the arrows that can handle a 90 to 100 draw.
