Today we spent the day in Chanthaburi's 300 year old riverside community.
We worked our way from one end of the chanthaboon waterfront community all the way to the other end, all while eating and drinking as many local specialties as we could.
This has to be one of our favourite streets in Thailand for sure 🇹🇭

There are a lot of French architecture buildings in Chantaburi because France had occupied Chantaburi for 14 years during 1893 crises. Thailand got it back by exchanging some parts of Laos and Cambodia.

In fact, in ancient Thailand the front of the house was the part that had a pier. Because in ancient times Thai people would travel by water transportation. If we want to compare it with the present day, rivers or canals are roads in this era. The houses of Thai people in ancient times faced the river or canal. Therefore, the pier is at the front of the house. If you observe the traditional Thai houses, there will be a pier in front of the house. Later in the reign of King Rama V, or about 150 years ago, the first roads were built. Transportation therefore changed from rivers to roads.

Chanthaboon City assumes that the word Chan comes from TonChan or Sandal Wood. This sandalwood is used as fragrant wood for worshiping sacred things. Chan trees are used in the royal funeral ceremonies of Thai kings as urns for the king's remains. The word Boon probably comes from the word pura. That means city. From the evidence in a book written by a Frenchman During the reign of King Suea of Ayutthaya Mentioning a monk who found a stone inscription in Sanskrit that read: “More than 1,000 years ago, there was a city named "Khuan Karaburi" with a wide territory located at the foot of Mount Sa Ba. The citizens are Chong people. Westerners call this city “CHANTEBON”. The Chanthaboon riverside community was also an important center for maritime trade. It is a community that welcomes guests from the city. Accepting foreigners who come to do business When the western people came As a result, there was a coming to spread Roman Catholicism in Chanthaboon. The Catholic Church was built when the Vietnamese immigrated for religious reasons around 1672 and is a religious refuge for Christians. In 1893, France came to occupy Chanthaburi for 11 years. Trat city was also taken over. In the end, Thailand had to give up the territory of Koh Kong, Battambang, Siem Reap, and Sisophon (Cambodia) in exchange for the return of Chanthaburi and Trat. After it was returned, houses and communities in this area developed. Most houses and architecture are therefore approximately 150 years old or more.

Chanthaburi and Rayong province is one of the best fruit producing areas in Thailand. It rains 8 months out of 12 months. It is the best pepper producing area in the world and has been exported since the past. and is a gem city, producing one of the best quality gems in the world. and is the origin of the transformation of gemstones into increasing value. By burning gemstones to change color And it had been ruled by the French for a while. Until Thailand had to exchange Siem Reap, Battambang, and Sisophon in Cambodia.

So basically, hot Thai coffee boran with Thai madeleines? Love the water/canal town of Chanthaburi, putting it on my list. Love khanom tuy after eating boat noodles. When my sister makes Thai noodles at home, she puts pineapple in the broth as well. Simmered for over a day. It's for acid and it breaks down the meat and tenderize it. Like a natural tenderizer. They used that in Pho as well. Yen ta fo/pink noodles is my least favorite, too sweet. Love my rad na with pork and squid and Chinese broccoli! Corn starch to thicken the gravy. Top 2 noodles for me are boat noodles and rad na.

Hi Ellis! Great to see you back in Chanthaburi again! I don't know how much time you have left in Thailand, but it might be worth visiting Phattalung province, it's in the south. There's great food, and there is a beautiful lake called Thale Noi, if you go at sunrise, 4AM, you'll catch the lotus flowers opening up, and you'll see a beautiful sunrise as well! You can take a sleeper train to Phattalung, or fly to Trang or Hat Yai and take a taxi/bus to Phattalung.

Fried durian is made from unripe durian, which means the smell of durian will be less. Suitable for people who don't like to eat durian. It's not a scam.😊

As Vietnamese Catholic I always curious about the Catholic populations in all the Asian countries so I did research years ago and still didn't know why the Catholic populations in Thai and Cambodia were so small compare to Vietnam. I left it as that until I watched documentaries on Cambodia and Thailand and everything made senses ..... The Catholic churches on floating boats in Cambodia, they're all Vietnamese living in Cambodia for 3-4-5 generations ........then Chanthaburi Cathedral was built by the Vietnamese Catholics escaped the religious persecution in 18th century. They explained in the documentary, the ceiling of the Chanthaburi Cathedral was built to reflect the inside structure of the boat, to commemorate how the Vietnamese arrived to Chanthaburi . Before I thought it was so flat and not beautiful like Vietnamese churches, until I learned the history then everything changes, the Chanthaburi Cathedral was more beautiful than anything. Today looking at the Vietnamese populations in Laos, Thai, Cambodia, and compare that to the Catholic populations of those country, they're somewhat reflect the same numbers.

Fried durian is an alternative for people who don't like the smell of durian. It is made from unripe durian. But you love the smell of durian. You should eat durian. But this is an experiment. Next, you will know what you should do with 160 baht.😂 I have watched your Loy Krathong clip. After my New Year's trip
