Today we travelled overland from Thailand to Myanmar. We took a luxury bus from Chiang Mai to Mae Sot in Thailand before crossing the border to Myanmar by foot. We had our Myanmar visa ahead of time so the border crossing was simple. We then haggled for a taxi to take us to Hpa-an which was a little less luxurious!
The whole journey took over 12 hours!

Just think, if Jen had not splurged on her nails at the salon, you could have gone to Myanmar by hot air balloon! lol Looking forward to these videos. Myanmar is one of the few countries I put off going to... for various reasons. But I still hear good things.

no we didn't, however we did have a flight booked out of Yangon should we have needed it.

I couldn't help but notice most of the Thais in that bus were wearing surgical facemasks? I didn't think the sky was "dusty", something else going on there?

Recently the air quality in Thailand has been pretty bad. It might be that... but not sure. It's not clear why the Thailand Air Quality is so bad, but a lot of people think there is farm burning going on.

Didn’t you guys ride in a car with a bunch of bric-a-brac not long ago?😀 You should have flown into Yangon from Chiang Mai with one of those SleazyJet type airlines for less than $50 instead of land crossing LOL The Burmese border towns are shite and the ones from India lead you into some really desolate small towns in Burma. Have a good time in Burma. You probably will be interrupted by some rain during the day till the end of the month but great country to explore. Too bad they give out only 4 week max visas still.

Yeah it seems to be a feature of our current travels!! They were a lot more expensive than this "enjoyable" journey once we factored in our luggage. If only we could carry less and go hand luggage only... Thanks for the tips, a bit of rain would be lovely right now, it feels about 40 degrees 🥵

Rob & Jenny Don’t they have a 20 or 25 kg free allowance for international flights in Economy? I thought you guys just had backpacks not heavy luggage. Oh well you got there somehow 😀 Yeah the rains are good for the heat except lot of places in Burma ( especially Bagan) have mud roads and they turn into quagmire after rains. If you are in Bagan, rent two ebikes instead of one 😀. Those things don’t have juice to carry two people and if it has rained, it can be a real nightmare. Something we learnt the hard way from experience 😀

We only have backpacks which are 12kg but you normally have to pay on these cheapo airlines. Good tip, will do that with the ebikes! 😀

@@RobandJenny Because according to him Burmese writing looks like squiggles😂I personally think it looks more like broken glass bangles!

@@Daradajee oh really? I think that Hindi and Thai writing is quite squiggly too. But maybe that's my untrained eye. We found it confusing today that numbers are in Burmese, so getting on a train was tough.

Burmese is more rounded than other Sanskrit derived scripts, hence the added Squiggle factor. The coolest looking one has to be Sinhalese though, looks like Mayan hieroglyphics!
