In this video, I show how to put the bean head on to this 1974 John Deere 6600 combine. This might help some of those that have had problems in the past or maybe a trick or two of something you should have done and didn't.
We had a small break down but it didn't slow us down. We were able to get the whole field done and to the elevator before they closed that evening.

Pretty cool that you have a yield monitor in your 6600. I have a 78 6600 SH that is on reserve duty since getting a 9400. But plan to give it some work on the hills next fall.

I only have gps in the 6600. I was going to put the yeild monitor in the 6600, but my neighbor was looking at upgrading combines, so I bought his 6620 and put the yeild monitor in the 6620.

We had an 300 bushel unverferth gravity box and I pulled the bumper off my 78 ford F-150 one year. Took me a day but I rebuilt the hitch and bumper.. usally pulled that trailer with our ton & half bob truck or a tractor.

I use my 1 ton truck that has a new flat bed on it. The hitch is part of the bed. My neighbor will pull 2 300 bushel wagons with his 3/4 ton. I told him he is crazy, lol. I have pulled 2 250 wagons at the same time but not a fan if it. I do like using the 400 bushel Parker grain cart I have. It seems to be the best setup to move the most grain at a time that I feel comfortable with. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Take two pieces of tape put them on each side of the combine feeder house and top of the header that way just line up the pieces of tape and you should be lined up with the holes first try. we used to do custom harvesting and we would never would waste time backing up and turning around at the corner we would just make the turn and come back after we finish the field and pick up the corners that were left save a lot of time.

That is what I was having problems with last year and when I finally got them off they were 19+%. I was lucky the elevator took them. Good luck and thanks for watching.

@@TAHDAHFarm I did custom harvesting back in the 1980s with Small's Harvesting out of Senath Missouri. They had moved their base to south Mississippi because they had two really big customers down here. I used to cut beans for them down here after we went out west cutting wheat. I had a few customers of my own and I would take their equipment and cut myself. They had 16 John Deere 8820s but they kept two of the old 7700s from the previous upgrade. Their customer base was a lot of older farmers and one by one in the 1990s they passed away and finally got to the point they just went ahead and closed shop on custom harvesting. I developed a love for it so much here in my sixties I'd like to get a little 6600 and do a little harvesting myself but they've stopped growing anything down in south Mississippi as far as crops all they grow down here is cattle! Lol. And I can pick up a nice combine fairly cheap but there's nothing left to cut it's a shame. But I like watching the old John Deere run.

It is very hard to find ground and I don't want to be getting ground by "steeling" it. All the ground I am farming, all 50 acres, has been new ground from hay fields or big farmers that don't want the small fields. I am looking forward to farming the 16 acres I have perched over the last 2 years. The rest of the fields are 2 to 6 acres in size. My goal is 100 when I retire just to keep me busy. I wanted to just help the neighbor guy but he didn't want any help. So I'm doing it by my self. I'm having fun and that's what it is all about. Thanks for being here and watching my channel.

TAH-DAH Farm I’m gonna bet it’s a no till drill. If I’m right and it’s a Great Plains the dealer I worked for sold those as well. You asked about the cylinders on the kewanee folding disk. I couldn’t remember for sure but a friend said everything kewanee was cross he thought.
@TAHDAHFarm
@TAHDAHFarm 4 жыл бұрын
It looks like a Cross. I talked to Crose the other day and the guy emphatically denied that they made cylinder for Kewaunee. I was later talking to B&B Hydraulic which is located close to Crose in Kansas. He told me that they made a lot of parts for different manufacturers like Kewaunee and when the manufacturer goes out of business they get rid of the line of part to push their stuff. B&B was not surprised at all about Cross's comments. O well, I ordered 2 new Crose cylinder for B&B and they should be here on Monday. My biggest problem was the shaft size on mine was 1 3/8" and Cross are now 1 1/4".

TAH-DAH Farm as long as your bought a set so the ones it’s phased with are the same it should operate exactly the same. If you have any trouble I can try to help with what I know. The only real problems I remember having were the rear hitches were week and I remember a few had the little links on the side that are part of the fold (look like a midget top link) would break. Otherwise their a great disk to own.

Those top link things look to be ok. Need to oil them up good. As far as the hydraulic for the wings, it also has what looks like a splitter that will regulate the flow so they move at the some rate. It seems to be working just fine. Will see next week.

Do you ever have trouble feeding green stem beans with that head? I've thought about converting a Deere or CaseIH head to fit my R52 Gleaner. My 800 series head doesn't feed very well. Otherwise I'm looking at an Orbit Reel or Crary air reel but that's expensive.

I just went back to look for a video but I can't find it. I have talked about it before but that will make for a good video to do. The light will flash when one of the 5 sensors are not running fast enough. There should be a box to the right back corner of the cab that has 5 lights on it. That is the monitor control panel and will turn that light on. I made a lot of repairs on my to get it working again. I will definitely do a video on this in the near future.

@@TAHDAHFarm Thanks for the reply. None of those sensors work on our combine so thats probably why I have never seen this light come on. We are planning to try to get those working if we can. This combine has around 3200 hours on it and it appears to have a newer concave in it because it has newer looking black paint on it. Its also a diesel with the rotary screen. My son paid 1000 for it so I feel we can do a few repairs on it.
@TAHDAHFarm
@TAHDAHFarm 3 жыл бұрын
My John Deere dealer let me borrow the testing tools to check the control box and make sure it was working properly. I had to replaced the lights and I used LED that a friend got for me. I then went to the combine graveyard and got the used sensors that I needed. I also found that the switch under the cab was plugged up with dirt and bent. It is located so that when you push the handle forward to start the threshing, it sends power to turn the control box on. It is nice to have, I had the chopper belt come off one day and the light started to flash. So I then looked to see what light was on on the control box. I know the combine graveyard has the control box if you find that yours is bad but it is not cheap. Good luck and thanks for subscribing to my channel.

This combine has a monitor that has 5 rotation sensors monitoring to make sure that everything is at proper speed. If one of the areas slows down, ie a belt breaks, that light will come on. This is an earlier version of monitor so the light is the only indication that will get your attention there is a problem. The newer combines have a light and a buzzer. There is a panel down by the gear shifter that has the 5 individual lights to let you know what area is the problem.

Are you pretty far from the elevator not to use a tractor on the wagons?
@TAHDAHFarm
@TAHDAHFarm 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would be at least 45 minutes one way with the tractor and with the truck it is about 20 minutes. Then the time it takes to dump at the elevator. I didn't use this elevator last year. The two elevator that I use are within a mile on the distance. With that being said, I go to whichever is paying more and last year Sunrise was paying about $0.10 less last but this year it is the other way about $0.05 a bushel. Sunrise put in the new dump and can take corn and beans in it. I seen a Simi truck dump a trailer in about 3 minutes in the new pit. I was surprised and I dumped my wagons with the door wide open. 2 years ago they only had the 3 pits and one was ready slow if the one next to it was being used. It could take about 10 minutes to empty a 250 bushel wagon not to mention the time that was created by being slow. The other elevator is coming up on price and paying more for corn now so I might be taking the corn there. Thanks for watching.

@Brad Sisson sometimes using a tractor and grain wagons can be dangerous, most farmers around me who are more than 2 miles away from the grain elevator will use a dump truck or a grain trailer behind a rig. Just depends on how the season is as well

Crouch & Sons Farm you are right. We did tractors and wagons for years. All depends on your roads, distance, and elevator location. Just a change in times as that was a thing of the past. Gravity wagons behind a tractor or truck can be very dangerous.
