With a velocity of Mach 3+ STARStreak is most effective against fast moving air threats such as fixed wing fighters and pop up armoured helicopters.

@Antony Golayda You are severely underestimating it. Mach 3, twice as fast as any Russian fighter jet, and can go up to 7 miles which is how high most airplanes go, can definitely reach Russian bombers. Even if the missile is exploded by a countermeasure or runs out of juice, it will release 3 tungsten metal rods which don’t need fuel, and can’t be impeded by flares to ensure the target is destroyed. Rest assured the Russian planes are going down.

The 3 aspects of this missile that makes it so dangerous are it's speed , over mach 3.5 which gives the opponent virtually no time to evade or launch counter-measures. Which brings us to one of it's other strengths , counter measures don't work against it! Infre-red Stingers can be distracted by flares or turning your plane to mask the exhausts and radar guided missiles can be jammed. Starstreak uses a laser beam to lock on and as yet, there aren't any counter measures for it !! It's 3rd strength is it's warhead .Most MANPAD's have 1 warhead but Starstreak is actually 3 darts with a delayed fuse in each. The darts spread out slightly to maximise the chances of a hit, then locs onto the targrt independently via a laser beam , then the darts hit and the kinetic energy or force of the impact literally rips the target apart

and by the look of it, the first confirmed kill has now been seen in Ukraine. Yes. It's the first stage that kicks the missile from the tube. The second stage ignites when the missile is a 'safe' distance from the launch position.
