With a velocity of Mach 3+ STARStreak is most effective against fast moving air threats such as fixed wing fighters and pop up armoured helicopters.

@Antony Golayda You are severely underestimating it. Mach 3, twice as fast as any Russian fighter jet, and can go up to 7 miles which is how high most airplanes go, can definitely reach Russian bombers. Even if the missile is exploded by a countermeasure or runs out of juice, it will release 3 tungsten metal rods which don’t need fuel, and can’t be impeded by flares to ensure the target is destroyed. Rest assured the Russian planes are going down.

The 3 aspects of this missile that makes it so dangerous are it's speed , over mach 3.5 which gives the opponent virtually no time to evade or launch counter-measures. Which brings us to one of it's other strengths , counter measures don't work against it! Infre-red Stingers can be distracted by flares or turning your plane to mask the exhausts and radar guided missiles can be jammed. Starstreak uses a laser beam to lock on and as yet, there aren't any counter measures for it !! It's 3rd strength is it's warhead .Most MANPAD's have 1 warhead but Starstreak is actually 3 darts with a delayed fuse in each. The darts spread out slightly to maximise the chances of a hit, then locs onto the targrt independently via a laser beam , then the darts hit and the kinetic energy or force of the impact literally rips the target apart

It’s great that they are coming to Ukraine, this will help significantly. However, this is just a short range missile, the Russians can still launch rockets from far away. They were able to bomb Syria from Russian airspace. Ukraine really needs something like the patriot system, ciws, or the iron dome to close the sky. Still, really glad to see the brits helping my country so much, thanks everyone from the UK(it’s your tax money for our freedom and safety)!!!

It's a drop in the ocean compared to what we spend on military systems but each STARStreak costs roughly $3.5 million for the launcher + 10 missiles. The Javelins are $180-250K each + $78K per missile, the NLAWs are cheap though only about $48K each. I'd like to say we can afford it but I'll just say we spend it. Take back your lands. and by the look of it, the first confirmed kill has now been seen in Ukraine. They estimated 2-3 weeks of intensive operator training was needed, but somehow that has been reduced to 1-2 weeks (probably because the teams didn't sleep much) and 1,000 training successes in a simulator. These are the elite troops and weapons of the modern battlefield. No way to counter this one, with an appropriately trained crew. Devastating.

It's laser guided so not really 100% immune, the UK probably know how to counter it since they built it. Unlikely Russian equipment can counter it though. Flares etc won't do anything to stop it and at max range of 7.5km you only have around 4 seconds to react at that speed.

Yes. It's the first stage that kicks the missile from the tube. The second stage ignites when the missile is a 'safe' distance from the launch position. You see similar with most portable rockets, whether anti-aircraft or anti-armour when the main propelling rocket ignites somewhat down range of the launcher.

This would never pierce any armored vehicle like an APC/IFV or MBT, at least not to a degree that justifies the price tag.

@@tibgaming8184 Thats not true - it can penetrate 30mm of rolled steel - so not a main battle tank but an APC yes.

@@buctootim source? Even StarStreak does not advertise its penetration capabilities. This weapon is not about penetration, it is about surface damage to aerial vehicles, which is why it's a fucking anti-aircraft weapon.

@@buctootim ..that's not a source. That's a very, very old documentary about the THOR system (Starstreak varient, not the one that will be deployed to Ukraine) - I didn't hear anything in that about being able to penetrate up to 30 mil but either way I would assume you're talking about the 'anti-tank capability' mentioned - this is NOT going to be in the varient being sent to Ukraine.

Man I know the U.K. can make some bad ass weapons but these puppies took the cake for me. Of course not top over all but for design and knock out power it's up there. Those three rods, are they titanium? And dose anyone know if it's a laser guided or tow guided missile? Thnx. I would hope us American would have something bad ass like that except with a shit load of more missiles. Kool stuff U.K. 👍 plz send the Ukrainian as much as you can. Those things look like they can cause some major damage.

@@TheFreshman321 100% British but the subsidiary who make them is now owned by a French company hence if Thales want to sell them to India they might be able to do so, that said I presume India would buy the MMP from French aeropsptatial now incorporated into MBDA whom the Brits are also shareholder by the way. Debatable but the MMP seams slightly better than the Starstreak
