Another wonderful window on the past, but if I could disagree with one thing, it's that the Rag n Bone man is far from being in a "dying" trade. He's just changed his mode of transport.

Ross Nye Stables, at 8 Bathurst Mews. Still in business although I don't know if they do the farrier work on site. Not seen any horse drawn totters around recently.
@Tefisheep
@Tefisheep 2 жыл бұрын
I was about to say that's Mr Nye's in Bathurst mews. The girls holding the horse were two years above me at school. He was alright Mr Nye, if you mucked out and polished tack all day he'd give you a free hour's ride at the end of the day or if someone cancelled. Good to know they still operate from the same, barely changed news. I dread to think how much a ride in Hyde Park is now, it was a tenner an hour in about '81/'82, hence the mucking out, tack polishing and grooming horses all day. Very nostalgic. I used to love our old rag and bone man, had a voice like a fog horn RAGBONE! you could hear him before the horse's hooves. He took my mums old cooker away, I must have been really little, I remember crying in case it was too heavy for the lovely horse. Somewhere there was a picture of me as a toddler sat on his back while he chomped away from his nose bag. He'd stopped coming round a few years before this though.

Ross Nye was a fellow Queenslander who moved to London in 1965,where he bought a small riding school and for the next 50 years encouraged Horse riding as means to gain better health and and outlook on life. He passed in 2020 Aged 93.
