Exactly. As an actor (as opposed to an armchair critic who works at Rite-Aid), I watch their craft and see the beauty of what they're doing. I, too, aspire to work with the directors and types of projects they've done.

Both of these women are doing wonderful work as actors. And they're working on shows that are tackling important issues. What the hell with all the hate? I really thought this was going to be a horrible interview. People have nothing of importance going on in their own lives, so... This was wonderful. And Thandie is cast in the new Star Wars. Helloooo! I wish. And Oprah is in Disney's new Wrinkle in Time.

not surprised at all with the hate in these comments below......... These women, black women mind you, are just too fierce!! intelligent, beautiful, successful, engaged, empowered, fulfilling their purpose, living their dream.......fully free! How many people walking this earth live a life like they do? ....and some folks can't stand it.. LOL!! Bravo Oprah and Thandie... I could listen to them talk for hours...
@todrapayne7 жыл бұрын
stephanie brown Exactly.
@lightuponlight67277 жыл бұрын
we don't realize how programmed, esp in America, folks are to Not seeing black women shine.. to Not seeing us in positions of power and influence. Now we'll sit and watch two white men or two white women blather on and on about their work, passion, life journey ect. and applaud it...lol. Because that's been normalized. But black women are shining and we will NOT stop.
@todrapayne7 жыл бұрын
stephanie brown And the thing is, there's nothing unusual about the passion they're exhibiting. I'm an actor and a lot of my friends are actors. We're doing small projects right now, nothing near as big as what these two are doing, and we talk about our little projects with the same passion because WE LOVE WHAT WE'RE DOING. And there are so many nuances to every role, that actors can spend hours dissecting what was learned from a character. There's nothing pretentious about the conversation these ladies are having. It's pretty typical, actually. People and their flippant criticism...

Wow...I can't believe I sat through this entire interview and was thoroughly into it. Who would of thought that Thandie would be the one to drive the conversation. But, she was speaking to Oprah's truth and I felt Oprah surrendered the driver's seat to her. It was also interesting seeing Oprah experience "ah-ha moments." You can see the light bulb when it goes off in her head; it's cute.

They are so in tune with each other it's amazing to watch. enriching, enlightening, and just beautiful. it just felt like I peeped into the living room of one of these women to listen to an authentic conversation that they could have had while no one else was watching. As refined and articulate as they both are, there was a rawness that spoke to the depth of how well they know each other and how in tune they are with their own emotions and thoughts. Super articulate... well done, loved it!😍😍 Thandie Newton & Oprah Winfrey... it doesn't get better than this.😍

This is episode is my favorite one, two brilliant women, open heart, open-minded, talk freely and natrually. Thandie said "Fight for the truth if we know it, if we don't know it, ask questions." i love it
@WalterLiddy4 жыл бұрын
Thandie's role in Westworld, and her performance, are by far the most compelling element of the show, which is already brilliant. Of all the characters, she's the only one you really want to see succeed in the end. She's basically the lead in what's ostensibly an ensemble show. It's great to see her career going better than ever. The great shame about Oprah is that she doesn't do more acting. I don't think she's ever failed to be devastating in any role she's played. Maybe the most talented actress out there when she does work. I see in the comments below I'm supposed to feel threatened or hate them or something. That's all in the minds of those making comments. As a white man over 40, I love these ladies and seeing them together - and I don't think I'm the exception. It's far more common for women to assume the worst of men than it is for men to actually be their worst selves.

Variety should shut off these comments so a lot of you can stop projecting your own unresolved issues onto these women. The comments denying Thandie's blackness are beyond disgusting, esp. since she's been so vocal about fighting racism in the industry. Deal with your own issues on colorism and interracial relationships elsewhere.

I cannot get over the hate. As a young educated European, all I conclude is that if these were two white American male superstars, there would be no snide or hateful comments. Clearly Oprah and Thandie are not only unique personalities, but also good actresses (not GREAT.... yet, but very good), and....., and they are close friends, who are happy to engage and speak to one another here, especially Thandie (very excited and animated). Please judge this video for what it stands for,, and not what you think is should be. ART and POLITICS are not entertainment. Please do not mix them up.

She delivered one of the top 5 performances in the year of 2017-2018. The emotion, the coldness of her character gave me shivers, and she was able to pass on the pain that she was feeling to her viewers. The scene in the finale of Season 1, where she had to decide whether to board the train or gett off, is an acting gem. She should have won for 2017 Emmy, but Ann Dowd overpowered in equally brutal performance, but 2018 was hers and she got it, a well deserved Emmy.

Woow! So much hate in the comments! Honestly am surprised at how people trying to turn this amazing conversation between two long-time friends into something negative. Both women are exceptional actresses and both have amazing insight into the acting world. Obviously they both love being around each other and talking about the many lessons they’ve learned about themselves and life in general. All I see in this video is love and respect. Maybe trolls should do the same instead of spreading so much hate.

My earliest memory of Thandie Newton is in the Australian movie 'The year my voice broke' one of my favourites. My earliest memory of Oprah was an episode of the Oprah show, her guest was an ex agent of some kind and he was teaching women what we can do if we were attacked, it has been something I have taken with me throughout my life and been very useful. As a female, I need to know how to help myself other than physical, I learned other tools to use. I'm a small person, so I knew physical fights were not going to work, I learned how powerful my voice can be and I have used it well.

Loved this conversation between two phenomenal actresses. Their roles may be few ( in ref to the silly comment below, there's a dearth of great roles for black women, plus Oprah has been busy building a formidable empire and acts only as a "side gig" , so to speak). Their body of work stands the test of time. Thandie was a revelation, and really held her own against the Queen, Oprah. My one pet peeve was that she kept interrupting and talking over Oprah. She has astute observations but I found her penchant for interjection and interruption quite disrespectful.
@jaquen19777 жыл бұрын
Interruptions? This wasn't a mentor-student talk. This is two actresses, the younger of which actually who has far more credits, and is more decorated, having a discussion. And those "interjections" aren't interruptions, they're the light banter between friends, which these women are. The entire point of Actors on Actors is too show two PEERS having a discussion, not for somebody to try and "hold their own" or shut up and receive.
