A special message for the London 2012 Games Makers from some of the Olympic and Paralympic spectators who have valued the work you've done this summer. Spread the word that volunteers will be wearing their uniforms again on Monday 10 September. If you see one of them on Monday, please say thank you. #thankyougamesmakers

I was a Games Maker at the Olympic Park, and had the time of my life. I scanned more tickets, gave more high-fives and took more photos (of spectators) than I ever thought possible. I would love to thank all spectators who gave in their 'spare' tickets - you gave us Games Makers the opportunity see sports we would otherwise have missed, and experience the Park in a way we never dreamed. You say we made YOUR Games - but honestly you made OURS! Thank you all!

I was a Gamesmaker at Wimbledon and after being at the Opening Ceremony, started my shift with 2 hours sleep! The atmosphere was so exciting and friendly ( especially the army welcoming us in) It was a priviledge to have been involved in such an iconic venue and to see the delight in watching people see Centre Court for the first time! It was a very emotional and fun experience and of one that will remain with me forever. So thanks LOCOG for giving me the chance to be involved and we did it!!

I was a Games Maker at the Olympic Park doing Venue Entry. Not the most glamorous job making everybody pour out their liquids etc but everyone was so nice and understanding and overcame my shyness. Yesterday after waking up at 5:30 for a 7am start, volunteered to do the afternoon shift as it was my last day. Then in the evening someone from the paralympic family gave me a closing ceremony ticket, best night ever and a fitting end to a wonderful week, Thank you to him and all the spectators!

Had three daughters as Games Makers. They loved it all, even the not so glamorous bits - not everyone was front of house. Well done to them and all of you wonderful people for your service, respect, hard work and above all, your wonderful sacrifices and enthusiasm! You made it happen. Enjoy the party!

I was a Gamesmaker (Last Mile) at Wembley for the Olympics and then at Greenwich Park for the Paralympics. It was the best time of my life (so far) memories that will last a life time... I feel honoured and privilaged to have been a part of it! Friendships that have been made will go on and on... And yes i was crying at this... Thank Eddie! The ammount of little kids who said " I wanna be a Gamesmaker" Can we say we've "Inspired a generation"? Yes I think we can! Well Done Everyone!

My husband was a Games Maker. He is retired on a pension. He paid out for the fares to the trainings and he put in many hours preparing for and during the Paralympic games. We spent the longest time apart in our 45 yr marriage as he stayed at our youngest son's in Stevenage as it was nearer than Northampton where we live in a retirement village. He loved every minute of his time as a Games Maker. I have written 2 poems about Paralympians on my facebook page. Thank you the public and athletes!

I went to the Olympics (3x) & the Paralympics (1x) & must say how great the Games Makers were. Everyone so cheery, positive, friendly, helpful,a wonderful bunch, from all walks of life, male & female, young & not so young(!), all ethnic groups. A wonderful heart-warming attitude - giving up so much time & energy for no financial gain at all - just pure altruism. You (& some great athletes & parathletes) made Britain & the Games great & put some pride back into this country. Thank u so much!

I'm pretty sure when we signed up for the roles none of us GamesMakers expected anything like the response we received. We've been welcomed into the hearts of the country and treated as stars. We aren't all unemployed bums as doupyourflies seems to think, in fact I don't think I met anyone who was in all my time there. We took holidays from work to do something that we truely felt was worth while, and wasn't it just. Watching this has moved me to tears, as have so many other tributes. Thank you.

As someone who was a Games Maker and London Ambassador at non-competition venues, I loved every minute of it and never in anyway felt less because I wasn't where the 'action' was. The action was everywhere and the atmosphere infected every inch of the city and I'm sure the nation. It was a fantastic honour and privilege (just as Eddie said).

The games-makers volunteers were so much part of making the Olympic and Paralympic experience so good, and so were the Army and Air-Force, all those smiles. one or two stood out especially .. the dancing volunteer outside the megastore, and the volunteers on the raised chairs who made us smile as we walked in amongst thousands of others. Very special!

I was a Young Games Maker, part of a team of 10 in total, 2 adult leaders and 8 juniors. I dropped in just after the test event as one member was just too young to be eligible, best decision of my life! In total we raised over £8000 for the hotel, meals and travel expenses for the whole team and it was by far worth it! We were at Lords carrying the arrows from the targets to the archers! As a keen archer I found it inspiring and so Im aiming for a future Olympics!

I think the volunteers were marvelous. I didn't get a chance to go to any games although I tried to get tickets but wasn't successful. This was my biggest disappointment and at 72 years old I won't get a chance to go to any other Olympics. However I did enjoy watching it all on TV but it isn't the same being there. Well done to the whole London experience xx

Most Gamesmakers had it really hard, due to the lack of organisational skills in assigning and supporting their roles. It cost them money (lots), their annual leave, missed meals, blood, sweat and tears. And yet they carried on, uncomplaining, and didn't fail to do their jobs with good humour and charm. They really are London's pride - wherever they came from.

I really enjoyed the sport, I can't honestly say the Games Makers were an enjoyable part!1) I didn't want shouting at thru a megaphone at 7:30am! 2)There was the one at the cycling road race that chucked the guys in front out of their seats because they went to the barrier on & then proceeded to create a scene between 2 sets of spectators & then shirked her responsibility for causing it, so sorry no they didn't make my Olympic Games! Thank you for your kind comments, but we never received 'training'. Those you met there, were there because they wanted to be there. If you didn't want to go, you didn't. They made it very clear that they would not come and find you, report you, etc. By that, only people who wanted to be there and were thus enthusiastic and happy were there. The one's who would have been miserable for the early morning starts, or couldn't be bothered would not have turned up. Almost like self selection in a way.
