Thank you, Lord Firebrand | Long-Serving Army Horse Retires at London International Horse Show

Commanding Officer Major John Baileff will retire his charger, Lord Firebrand (‘Yogi’), on Sunday evening at the London International Horse Show.
Yogi has given 10 years of service to The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, completing more than 50 Royal Salutes, and led the funeral procession for The late Queen.

What a gorgeous horse, and the guy ain't bad either. I see what a connection they have. I hope that they both have wonderful lives even after the horse's retirement.

I’m upset with the television companies for not broadcasting the horse of the year show. I know there were a few highlights broadcast, but when you think of how every channel covers football, even simultaneously, it is most annoying that not one channel broadcast the whole show (unless a pay channel) when it’s once a year! Why is it, I wonder, that horse related sports, other than racing, do not get the coverage, when football & rugby get saturation coverage? Perhaps someone at the magazine could investigate this.

So much for all those idiots who try to claim that these horses are badly treated. And it's OK to get emotional. That horse was your partner and friend and it's always sad when friends part.

It's obvious this man loves and respects his best friend and partner, Lord Firebrand, aka "Yogi"... "He's a beautiful Soul"... "He's such a gentle Soul"... "His bravery"... I hope they vett the potential new owners VERY strictly to make sure they have the facilities, the means, are in it for the long haul not just the prestige that these animals bring with them. Hopefully he will still get the attention and the chance to 'perform' in some way since he loves it even if it means he is used for high level rider training.

The Retirement home these horses go to is absolutely beautiful. There is a video on their transfer to the retirement home and how they are settled in and enjoy life out in pasture. Plus all the annual health checkups (from dental to feet) they go through.. They are loved through it all .

I know this is out in left field. I would love to have him and love him and once bonded he would love me, giving and getting affection. I know there are a 100 other people wanting him and I know I would have no chance as I live in the states. But I can dream, right.

do they vet the people who would get him? do they do follow up checks, 1 yr. on etc

What a relief for Yogi to not have to wear all the traditional heavy tack anymore. If the Royal Guards would change to bitless bridles, they would halve the uncomfy, head shaking, cranky horses we see on duty so often. But that wont happen....its tradition!

I wonder what age he is, probably at least 15, he may have arthritic joints from carrying heavy loads standing for long periods and going primarily on hard roads/ performance squares with temporary surfaces. I'm unsurprised the vet has retired him, would like to know how much of an eye the army keeps an eye on its retired horses under the " care of members of the public"
