This man single handedly led the creation of modern internet culture. His show aired at the time when late millennials/zoomers were children, in which his show taught us to embrace our stereotypes and personalities that make us "weird". By the time we all grew up, the "weirdness" in us created the internet culture we have today. Not even in a thematic way has Stephen Hillenburg influenced our lives in such a profound way. God bless him.

I too find his background very inspirational. I admire how because he was a marine teacher before becoming an animator, he was able to tell stories that make him stand out from other animators. What I also like about his show was that every character is normal. Nobody was trying to push an agenda or anything political. He was just creating something that can make everybody laugh based on his two passions: marine and animation. The Spongebob stories (at least in seasons 1-4) had a moral that is true and resonates with people. For example, there was an episode where Spongebob and Patrick learned (the hard way) that it's never okay to take something without buying (or borrow without permission), even if you plan on returning it. (Lucky for them, it was free balloon day, when they "borrowed" a balloon and accidentally broke it). It's a shame that Mr. Hillenburg passed away. I had no idea that he died until my brother told me! R.I.P. Stephen Hillenburg.
