The moment Jamie puts in the green stuff in the beans should be the visualization of the term "Spaffing it". And every time, he does that, stops and thinks for a moment. He needs to learn that if he has a stop like that, to don't do it. Because that is his mind shouting at him to stop

Same here! I love that he does it Anyway but it would show real kitchen growth if he didn’t. I feel like that should be an option for specialty badges, each of the normals has something for Jamie it’s definitely spaffing it and there should be a badge awarded for him realizing he should not do some thing and then NOT doing it. For Barry I think it has to do with not making something pretentious with a cloud egg, poached egg, or avocado even when he really wants to. And for Mike controlling his panic and increasing his productivity needs a badge!
@Crushingaxe
@Crushingaxe 2 жыл бұрын
@@prescottkerr7515 The cloud egg! I think Jaime's getting a bad rap here on second viewing. He tasted the beans, spiced them, and made a conscious decision to add the cabbage as another element. He paused, but it was both funny and probably just a final confirmation. Jaime is by far the most improved in the kitchen, I believe, and the mantle of Chief Spaff should pass to Barry. That cloud egg has not been redeemed, yet.

I think they got a bit caught up with the things that are US specific but forgot about/chose to ignore all the things that are common between their christmas dinner & american thanksgiving. I have never been to a thanksgiving that didn't have mash potatoes & gravy. Also I just assumed they would spatchcock a chicken then make a gravy with the drippings. That would have been a reasonable concession to make given the time constraints.

American perspective here: Generally speaking Thanksgiving food is heavy, rich, carb loaded comfort food. Centerpiece is traditionally a Turkey but some opt for ham. I appreciated these guys and their effort especially in the time constraints as well as almost no experience. I was surprised no-one thought of Mashed potatoes and gravy but kudos for the Green bean casserole and the 'Corn pudding'. The stuffing was more of a filling....as stuffing involves bread...in fact I don't think they used one piece of bread. Also I can't stand the stuff but cranberry sauce is popular. Great show.

Several years ago she came home from a long business trip and her English boyfriend had cooked her a full Thanksgiving meal , including a turkey, although he had never attended an American Thanksgiving. Lots of texting and phone calls back and forth to her mother for advice and tips. All she wanted was a shower and sleep, but she ate that dinner made with love. And then each person gets only the part of the recipe that comes AFTER theirs and has to figure out their part from context and leave clues for the next part. The first person gets the first two parts written and the last person gets only what they can see in the kitchen.

Mix the fruit and celery and sugar, allow to sit in the fridge for an hour to cool and drain the mixture, adding the liquid to your reserve. Mix the nuts into your cold mixture, then make the jello according to package directions. Use your reserved juices for your cold water, and let the jello set in the refrigerator covered overnight to set. When I was growing up going to church suppers in the South, someone, usually a lady of my grandmother’s generation, could always be counted on to bring corn pudding. Probably the lady and her husband grew the corn in their own garden and it was picked fresh and put up the same day in their giant deep chest freezer. Possibly corn pudding was invented in multiple places- any place that has an abundance of fresh corn, eggs, and milk.

As an American from the Southern US, this whole thing was hilarious. The "corn pudding", the cabbage into the green bean "casserole", burnt sugar on the sweet potatoes twice, Barry's panicked face as he's plating up, just...all of it. Except the bacon-wrapped stuffed turkey breast, that was pretty neat. And with the time-crunch, understandably chaotic for a feast that typically takes 4-7 active cooking hours to pull together. But bless your hearts, mates, any Southern mother would whack you out of the kitchen with a wooden spoon if you so much as touched a pan Thanksgiving morning (except for cleaning purposes, great job, Jamie!), but glad it turned out!

If most of you guys have never had Thanksgiving before, I'd love to see you tackle it with all the traditional stuff, because I'd love to see what all of you actually think about a full traditional Thanksgiving. - Turkey - Stuffing - Mashed Potatoes - Turkey Gravy - Corn Casserole (which is a bit of a different thing from what you've done here, and is sort of a hybrid of corn, creamed corn, butter, sour cream, corn bread, and cheese) - Biscuits (the American kind) - Cranberry Sauce - Sweet Potato Casserole (the weird contraption of sweet potatoes, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, pecans, cinnamon, salt, pepper, and marshmallows) - Pumpkin Pie (not Barry's weird....whatever that was) - Pecan Pie - Mac & Cheese - Green Bean Casserole

Where I'm from in Western KY, we use the canned Cranberry sauce, it's not Thanksgiving if there isn't a dish with a can shaped jellied cranberry sitting on it. We don't usually do biscuits but Sister Shubert's rolls and instead of mac & cheese, our family usually does a broccoli-spinach casserole which is frozen chopped broccoli and spinach mixed with cream of mushroom soup and velveeta and topped with french's fried onions then baked.
