Dumpster diving is technically legal in all 50 states. In 1988, there was a Supreme Court case (the State of California vs. Greenwood) that ruled searching trash is legal as long as it does not conflict with any city, county, or state ordinances.Oct 28, 2019

If the manager wanted it then he shouldn't have it thrown away in the trash can he could of just put it behind the trash can 8nside a big trash bag and put a cover on it and a sign 9n it saying don't tack .then people will know it youers .once it's thrown away in the trash can it plubice domain. Witch means by law you can take the trash out of the trash can first came first take its belongs to who ever wants to take it out of the trash can.and you are doing the store a service by taking out some of there trash for free and gives them more room to throw out more trash and keeps them from having the trash can emptied as much.yes you help them save money.so instead of being a jueark about the hole thing they should be thanking them for taking some 9f there trash 9ut for free.and if the manager wants to keep it then he don't throw it 8n the trash can

There was no way the manager wanted those items. It wouldn’t have been shoved in and hard to get out. He stated ppl return items. Some ppl do that. All the stores have to do is mark their item in a way that they know it was trashed without being ruined for divers who donate.

“That’s our product” you threw it out my guy! The definition of rejecting it and releasing your ownership of it. Fun fact is that, at least from my knowledge, whatever enters the trash is technically considered property of the trash hauler, so the stores shouldn’t have authority. Best part is how “happy” and smiling he was when he came out lol. Either way great finds, we keep going without set backs!

WOW! What a Fantastic haul. The so called store manager was a joke. If he did try to take anything out of your truck you could have had him arrested for stealing. I know they don't pay him enough to protect their trash. He was closing the distance approaching Adam. His chuckle indicates he was apprehensive and nervous. You don't come up on someone like that not knowing anything about them . They could have mental health issues or developmental, communication issues(autism spectrum) where his action may be perceived as aggression. You two did good to diffuse the situation. Be Safe.

I live in Utah and unfortunately about 3 to 4 weeks ago my daughter and I were pulled over by the city Police after a neighboring business'es manager called them and told them that we were dumpster diving! Then they waited until we left the property and pulled us over with 3 police cars including the k-9 unit and proceeded to tell us that dumpster diving is illegal because it's on private property and is therefore trespassing. The police said that in order to continue with our dumpster diving we had to go to the store manager and get their approval for us to dive. That way if we got caught again by us having the letter it would be ok and then nobody could press charges. We haven't been dumpster diving since because we're afraid of getting caught. I wish that we could all dumpster dive and be left alone.

I didn’t see badge showing him to be manager beside the point dude probably trashed that just to come back and retrieve it . In other words employee thievery. All dumpster divers knows the rules . Anything that’s put in a dumpster becomes public property if there’s a sign that says do not trespass respect that and clean behind yourself .

Some dumpster divers leave a big mess and resell for profit. That is the reason stores get upset. Maybe try to understand their side. That’s also why they destroy items.

Glad you had a camera when that Ahole rode up on you. You can go online to the manufacturer of that umbrella as you have the receipt and let them know you are missing that part and the manufacturer will more than likely send you it.

There was an incident this one time. I can't remember what channel it was on, but an Aldi manager literally started taking the food out of the car and putting it back in the dumpster 🙄🙄😡😡

We have one of those umbrellas and we use it over our hot tub so we and the tub in snow and rain. We love ours. You definitely have a great find. Love my Junkies❤️. God Bless!

I love that you didn't back down to that guy. So many people do bc they are intimated by them. If it's not illegal in your state you absolutely can take it unless it's posted no trespassing.

It is people like that store manager that prove that anyone doing anything should just video themselves doing whatever they are doing because you never know when someone will cause trouble. And that store manager or someone at the store is probably responsible for good stuff being tossed out in the hopes that they get to it first. At a Walmart that I used to work at over 16 years ago got a big delivery of large tvs, and one of the boxes was damaged but the tv inside seemed to be ok, but the store manager said to toss it. So two of the guys I worked with decided to stay after the end of the night shift and help the claims department load the tv into the dumpster. They put it on top very gently, but by the time that they went out front to get their truck and drive to the back the garbage truck was already there. A few days after that one of the guys was saying how a friend of his that works for the garbage collection place was talking about how they found this big brand new mint condition TV in the dumpster at Walmart. And how the two guys in the garbage truck took the tv out of the dumpster, emptied the dumpster, and loaded the tv into the truck. They then put the tv in the break room at the garbage collection/processing place.

I’ve always wondered what the trash collection companies actually find in the trash when they sort it…the garbage truck driver always acts grumpy like we are taking his loot…lol…but they have to be finding a lot of good stuff to be acting like they do in my town at least lol
