Everyone knew it was looking like things were to proceed this way. I wonder how this 2024 growing season is going to go. The way things are going if there's a reason for crop insurance, this is it.

Happy Belated Birthday, Lonnie. Sorry I forgot to do so, in the last video. Take advantage of the mild weather and get the extra things done now. Then you'll have a jump on planting season.

Thanks for another great video Kip. It was interesting and enjoyable. Would not believe you are doing all these field activities in February. Same way here in Iowa. Above average temperatures for sure. Gives you a chance to get a few things done. You have a lot of inside storage which is nice for your equipment. Good to keep equipment inside if possible. That cow lot looks nice after you ran the spring tooth piece of equipment over it. Smoothed it out real nice and worked the manure in. Good for the soil. Lonnie cleaning up the skid steer and oil change. Good to keep equipment up to speed on maintenance. That field your dad did with the tillage disk looks good. Worked that manure into the soil. Did that in February. Wow. About it I guess. Thanks for everything Kip. You all take care and be safe. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

I’ll be discing this spring on a much smaller scale as I bought two Agri Fab discs I’ll assemble and mount back to back, plus I’ll modify two cheap lawn aerators to mount behind the disc to help break up the chunks. I’ll pull it with one of my Toro 5xi garden tractors. I also have a new Brinly 1 bottom plow I recently got and a Brinly back blade I got 10 years ago, new, never used for $100.

....but Kip, in all seriousness....do you really think cows have the aesthetic sensibilities to appreciate "sleeping out under the stars"? If I was a cow (which, thankfully, I'm not...) I'd "appreciate" a good night IN THE BARN...Another good video, thank you, and thanks also for lettin' your light shine at the end(s)! Spring-tooth(ed) harrows, seldom seen nowadays, are really quite a "thing" ain't they? You "done good" giving your cattle a smooth, pockmarked-free surface upon which to stand. It's probably a bit softer into the bargain. Your good work, if not rewarded in your bottom line will, nevertheless be rewarded SOMEwhere.

Shows you just how much the climate has changed. Growing up in the 50's all the seasons were what they were titled. Winter was winter, spring was spring etc. This time of the year the snow banks were as high as the old telephone poles. 15 feet high on the sides of the road in southern Ontario that neighbours the state of Michigan. The risk this time of the year with the climate change is weather like we've gotten and the buds of the trees starting to sprout. If the fruit trees start to bud out and produce the blooms then there goes some of the crops. Not to long ago the cherry trees did just that started an early bloom then it froze again and lost the cherries for the year. March and April seem to get more than their fair share of winter storms. Not uncommon these years to have snow flurries in May. Farmers are dependant on weather, the rainfall we experienced last year as an example puts a lot a pressure on farms. Sometime crops will get drowned out the crops. So do you replant if there's time? Then the wet weather while you try to harvest is another challenge. Don't envy a farmer trying to cope with the challenges of farming. It's definitely not like managing other industries.
