There’s alot of advertising revenue drying up in the podcast space the last few years. Market saturation particularly with insanely famous athletes and celebrities starting shows since Covid has pushed advertisers to pay for just a few shows with guaranteed multimillion listenership. That and brands that either flopped or established their name with insane amounts of advertising over the years and no longer need to book with grass roots shows. It may not feel like it because we still hear so many ads, but it is a rapidly drying pool. Source: produced for several shows and watched the decline since 2020 even as their listenership grew. A growing fan base vs episode 1 doing 5 million downloads because the host is already famous (like not wrestling famous, Shaq famous) is an easy choice for advertisers.
