That bit really didn't make any sense at all. Even as a lowly transporter operator, he would know FAR more about the ship's nuts and bolts than Ro.

And later Ro takes the skill to the Maquis rebels (too bad we never got the chance to see her again in 'DS9' or 'VOY'). Would've loved to see her made a fix on 'Voyager' by combining Federation and Bajoran techs.

The part at 2:34 where he gave Riker "a look" was outstanding. The amount of acting Spiner could do with just his eyes, and while still maintaining "non-emotion" was a high point of this show.

Ro may seem heartless. but this is what the saucer seperation was desgned for.

Yes but that is part of being Federation citizens. One is not supposed to sacrifice lives for practically sake. Fighting a war say against the Dominion who will throw away thousands of lives to create a diversion. Will send a star nova to advance political aims. Meanwhile genocide, and cloaking technology is not used. Thorlaron weapons or mutagenic weapons are off. The table. Protect civilians. Unless you are living on the border with Cardsia or are section 31. Ro was right. They could save themselves by using the saucer as a life boat. Curious how when the ships primary systems fail despite five or more failsafe no one thinks to use the shuttles. Tori wasn't prepared to sacrifice or potentially sacrifice the others. She didn't have enough evidence to make a conclusion Court Martial is all but automatic. Now I guess we can understand Adr Jehlico, Netchev who do have to make decisions. Protect this planet from the Romulans, or that one from Cardsians? Which lives are more valuable? Short term vs long term? Do I order assassins for the greater good? Do I order a ship to self destruct rather than let the information on board fall into enemy hands?

She was a little too pushy, but was also IMO100% correct. They absolutely should have bailed when the contaiment started to crash.

@@geonerd The only crew members that would have likely died (and that matter) would be Riker and Data. Ten Forward is in the saucer section, where a group of people (including Keiko and Worf) are most likely trapped inside. And we could probably also assume that Picard and the kids climbed high enough to be in the saucer section during seperation.

@@geonerd she should be pushy. She's the only Line Officer on the deck. Troi might be the seniormost officer there, Ro's job is actually running the ship. She was absolutely right to want to separate the ship

Deanna used the chair for added power. 😄 The whole situation is funny, though, considering she is the one who should be able to tell whether there are still people alive in the main section. And the odds that they are really all dead are slim anyway, and one also has to consider whether a life tormented by survivor's guilt like that would be worth living. ... Even more so if things turn out alright and plenty of people in the main section will have a more or less covert bitterness.

The number of people in the main section being alive is irrelevant if nothing was ever done to stabilize the containment field. If containment failed, the whole ship would have exploded and the entire crew would have been lost. The proper way to have done this would have been to start separation at 20% integrity. Maybe even have them begin the process when Data fixed the engines. Troi was putting the whole ship at risk in an attempt to save half. It’s a hard call either way, but like Troi said, Ro could have very easily been correct.

Nice trick effects to show Data's head on that surface. You can see there is a prosthetic piece wrapped around his neck... otherwise Data has a really bad case of hyper-thyroid glands.

I remember that episode. That's where they had a disaster that cut out most of the systems of the ship, except gravity.

This episode shares similarities w DS9's "Civil Defense." The main difference is that here the cause is pure engineering disaster while in the latter the station malfunctions because Gul Dukat's man-made programming goes kaput....

@Waterlooplein1 The TNG Technical Manual actually explains this one. Deck plating contains graviton emitters, but those generators produce gravitons by "spinning" the internal mechanism. In the event of power loss, these take quite a while to "spin down".

It always sort of threw me off when they replied "Yes, Sir" to a *female* in command. Picard makes sense. I guess it's true, "we salute the rank, not the man."

That’s true in the navy: all superior officers are referred to as “sir,” regardless of whether they’re a man or a woman.

I liked the part when she holds the lives of the crew in her hands 🙌 after the Lieutenant was killed when the computer 💻 exploded by a quantum filament and that forced her to act as Captain when she took command of the Enterprise when the Enterprise’s power of the ship is out and she also sense other people and she said many of them are hurt but she can’t tell where they are on the Enterprise and I also liked when she’s in the conference room and sitting on the big chair 🪑 on the Enterprise(I seen her bra lines showing on her purple and gray space suit she wore and I also seen her buttocks moving since she’s been acting 🎭 years ago.) She looks sexy in the gray and purple space suit and I still liked her miniskirt she wore years ago and loved 🥰 her 1980s gigantico hair that turned out to be a wig and she also wore a headband with her 1980s gigantico hair style and looked a lot more like a cheerleader than any crew member of the Enterprise and I also liked when she said “I don’t think 🤔 I’m cut out to be Captain” and First Officer maybe 🤔” and “I understand there aren’t many qualifications.”👍
