After a4 (aka, the dumbest move he's ever seen ~ around 2:40) and Bb7, is axb5 Qxa8, Ba7 trapping the Queen a sound tactic? I originally assumed this was the non-existent (according to Magnus) threat that was intended... Am I missing something? There's a lot of open lines, for example the h8-a1 diagonal with the bishop aimed towards the defender Nc3, but I can't see any obvious way that Magnus would capitalize on this.

(assuming you meant Bg7 ab, Qxa1 Ba2) The queen is trapped for the moment, but I don't see how white can win it before black can get rid of the knight on c3, freeing the queen. It's not the best move, but even an immediate Nxb5 accomplishes that. The computer likes h6. If Nh3 there are some tactics on f3, and if Ne4 black exchanges knights then plays Bd7, hitting that b pawn and subsequently the knight on c3.

Good thing he never saw me play, lol. Just kidding. Well kinda anyway, lol. But as a gent, he then compliments the position too (in a classical game). Just the weirdest move at the time and for the position -- a self-pin even -- and allowed b4 kicking the Knight but couldn't really stop that anyway, just gaining space, for both. Note: I just get distracted and rush for no reason but some pain I'm in sometimes and might blunder! Lost some good games that way. Decided to rest up and get that taken of 1st before continuing. Thx.
