Is there something we can use in place of butter flavored shortening? Shortening has hydrogenated oils that are not good for your health. Also, can you use rum versus the rum extract?

@@LadyUniqueness yeah same here. They forget I'm a full time trucker and part time mechanic at times. So they have to requested cakes in advance. Baking is all day thing when I have to like 4-5 orders.

@@Dee038 I would ease into that cake slowly over multiple days after a sugar fast 🤕 Are you in ketosis now? Or did you keep your carbs in your diet and just cut out sugars as in sweets? Either way, great job sticking to your guns and following through with a promise to yourself!

So I made this for my family and when I tell you it was so good! The only difference was I added some butter flavoring to the sauce and it was a hit!!! My mom even asked for the recipe. This cake is the truth 😁

@@vickihammons1443 I haven't made it in a while but I would say anywhere from a tsp to a tbsp. Just start with a tsp and add to your liking. The rum flavor was a little too strong for me so the butter helped mellow it out.

Me too! But being in the Antiquities Section of Old Farts Imma rebel: All these Old Farts *always* use something called “I can’t believe it’s not butter” and I’m like, “Honey, I sure can!” Putting that stuff with ingredients on the side of the container you can’t even pronounce that’s made in a lab on my light, lovely yeast rolls? I think “I just *know* where you’re goin’ when you die....” (Besides, you already rockin’ an oxygen tank, a defibrillator, a pharmacy, speed dial to the ambulance and a wheel chair.....) Don’t mind me, I just get grumpy over this stuff but then, along comes another recipe from my favorite lady and chase my blues away!

Good thing people have different opinions. Her voice is _annoying as hell to me_ like fake as can be & trying too hard to sound sweet as pie.. I said that the first time I ever watched a video of hers. She has good recipes but, the stuff she says sometimes is cringe. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

YUM. In the early 70s, there was a trend to make rum soaked bundt cakes similar to this. Bacardi would have ads in all the "ladies" magazines w the recipe. My sister went thru a phase of making the Bacardi rum cakes for gatherings and her friends. So at abt 9 or 10 yrs old, I grew quite fond of them lol 😄. I think I'll turn the tables and make this for her! Thanx for this recipe!! Great channel! 😋

As an avid baker I have tried this recipe and it is TO DIE FOR!! thank you for sharing this amazing recipe with the rest of us! EDIT: I halved the sugar in this recipe and it was still very sweet…. In total this recipe aLmost contain 4 cups sugar 😨😨😨

My mom's friend use to make this all of the time. She just straight up called it Rum Cake. Although, she also used straight rum and not extract. So, so, so good. I can't have it any more. In recovery. :(...
