@esperago

Yep. Everything about this is completely inline with playoff hockey, good or bad. That being said, I have watched this play about a dozen times, in slow mo and regular speed. I think they're implying Bennett punched Marchand in the head. I don't see it. In slow mo, it does not come across that way. There's no flex and pop, no tense up and spring forward of Bennett's right arm. There's only a bracing movement. Secondly, it's not even obvious that it was Marchand's head that was contacted. It looks like there's an inch or two between glove and obvious contact with the head. Of course we'll never get the other angle BUT think about it. If Marchand got a head shot, there's a 100% chance he'd snap his head back to sell it (for a penalty). Marchand did no such thing. He fell and his body language indicates what was announced, an upper body injury, not head injury/concussion. Also, if you watch Marchand on the bench, it doesn't look like a head blow. I think this is pure strategy and politics by Boston's coach. His team is dying and he's doing and saying anything he can to even gain a 1% advantage in this series. If he makes a stink about Bennett, maybe the refs will hyper-police Sam and the Bruins will get an opportune powerplay out of it next game. That's my take. Sorry it was so lengthy

Look at Marchand’s history, one of the dirtiest players in hockey, and he’s skating at Bennett. It wasn’t a “reverse hit”, it was Marchand trying to hit Bennett who braced and blocked. This right here. The Bruins are a very physical team, but you can always see Bruins players finishing their checks even if the puck carrier has already passed the puck. This honestly drives me nuts and I cannot see how people are still arguing that "the hit was dirty". Yes, there's the whole sucker punch argument, but if you're coming for a hit, it's not like you're simply laying someone out your way, you're actually colliding with said person at speed. Just how there was people calling Tkachuk dirty for fighting Pastrnak, "oh, but Tkachuk beat Pastrnak when he was down on the ice". Yeah, and what did Pastrnak do? Get up and beat Tkachuk while he's down on the ice AND pinned by the refs. Most Bruins fans just expect their team to goon around on the ice and suffer no consequences. Panthers are stepping up to them and this is why they're losing.

I can see Monty's point. Slowed down it appears Bennet *may* have gotten one in on Marchand. And he's right on Bennett; this is the same guy who concussed a Leafs rookie last playoffs by a takedown behind the net that went uncalled. Unfortunately for Monty and Boston, the other 31 fanbases have zero sympathy. Marchand has done this same shit for years and gotten away with it. He can stomp on an opponent's stick and break it during a faceoff, before the puck is dropped, with 3 of 4 officials all looking in that direction, and no call was made. He can visibly, clearly, deliberately, slewfoot Timothy Liljegren into the corner, and no call. So the one time a guy with a reputation gets one in against a guy with a bigger reputation for doing the same shittery, Jim Montgomery, the Bruins team, fans, and organization can shove it where the sun don't shine because the rest of us only see it as long-overdue just desserts.

Have to see a longer clip, he looks at marchand before picking his chip pass along the board. 10th of a second lol bennett PICKED the contact type. He had several options before his pass and even after the pass. After the pass he looks like he just made it out of learn2skate camp a week ago: snow plow stop, standing tall, body out of position for any athletic hockey move. Bennett had full knowledge of the ice configuration around him as he carried the puck out from the defensive zone. In essence, he had essentially an unlimited amount of time by hockey standards and 3 other ways to deal with the physical contact that were actually legal

The two are skating towards each other with some speed. Marchand is approaching from Bennett's left. Bennett's hands are up as he braces for Marchand's hit on Bennett's left side. Upon impact, Bennett's momentum will carry him to his left. The right hand is not braced against Bennett's body, so Bennett's forward momentum will make his right hand swing in the direction of Marchand. This swinging motion will resemble a punch. Conduct your own experiment. Hold your right hand up like Bennett and have someone push you hard from the left.Your right hand is going to swing to the left due to the direction of the impact and the motion will make it look like you threw a punch.

@@nomadicnovels if your only defense is their record beforehand instead of the hit that literally just happened then that shows you have no proof that it was dirty. and you wanna talk about reputation? marchand is one of the dirtiest players to ever step on nhl ice

Funny how 99% of the people commenting on this sight are too stupid to have bothered seeing the sucker punch/cheap shot from another angle. And some of these same ignorant posters HAVE seen it and STILL bleat Marchand wasn't sucker punched OR he somehow deserved it.

As a Leafs fan, seeing that hit brings a smile to my face. I might even start cheering for the Panthers during these playoffs now. :)

As a leaf fan, this should piss you off after what Bennet did to Knies in last years playoffs and got away with it. I’m cheering for Boston in this series all day. Florida gets away with murder every year… But cheer away! ;)

It's a clean hit. Marchand probably cracked a rib and popped a lung. That being said, Bs gotta punch somebody for injuring the captain and no other reason.

Bennett was protecting himself, arms down, it just hit Brad at an odd angle. Looks like a shoulder or even collarbone injury.

they way Marchand is wincing after the play, it really looks like its from discomfort from the ribs. Honestly for me, looks like Bennett did go for some extra on the reverse hit, but I think the actual injury is from the left elbow into the ribs because Marchand didnt land the hit square on.

I hate both the cats and the bruins, but man that was a sneaky shot to the head by Bennett. It's hard to tell if he got Marchand with a butt end though.

100% well deserved. Too bad he won't be able to join his teammates on the golf course next week but he could possibly try out mini putt.

Didn’t watch the game, not a fan of either team. How is this controversial whatsoever? He just got hit trying to lay a hit, and got hurt. The Boston coach is a goof for saying that. If he actually reached around and punched him (which the video doesn’t show), then just say it instead of being all weird. I’m trying to look past my bias of hating Marchand, but if it was any player there I wouldn’t even think twice.

Look at Bennett's history? When people say "rat" in hockey everyone's first thought is Marchand. Hell, Florida literally has a rat as their second mascot and fans throw rats on the ice. People still think of Marchand first! All that aside, I hope he's back for game 4. It sucks seeing anyone get hurt.

Words from a coach who knows he has already been fired if he doesnt win this series. Especially if they get trounced in 5. That will look really bad😂
