I wont lie. I dont think i had such a big smile on my face seeing a new mario game since Odyssey (WHICH IS ALMOST 6 YEARS OLD NOW). But this new 2d mario just looks so cool! The style, animations, crazy new mechanics, even the pleasant surprise of Daisy, all of it just seems genuinely amazing for 2d mario standards

The first thing I thought when I saw Mario Wonder was just "Somebody at the studio obviously just did psychedelics for the first time." It's not just that it's weird, it's that it legitimately taps into a lot of psychedelic vibes in a strangely accurate way.

I am so excited for this new 2d Mario. I grew up playing Super Mario for the Wii with my Grandpa. He has since sadly passed but I still have his old save where he 100% the game. Something tells me he would love this new Mario game.

My expectations were low, so this delivered better than what we have been getting for awhile. Then again, it is the time to get all of these good announcements in general. The only thing missing for me was a Fantasy Life release date. Hope to hear about that soon.

I've honestly been a fan of all Nintendo games series. Mario, DK, Zelda, Earthbound/Mother, Pokemon, Pikmin (waiting for Pikmin 4), Kirby, Smash, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Punch-Out, You get the point.

Pikmin 1 and 2 get shadow dropped later today, Pikmin 3 DX is the best version of the game, and Pikmin 4 is releasing next month. The switch is now the Ultimate Pikmin Machine, and us Pikmin fans are eatin good!

Your pupper is absolutely beautiful. We have a 5-month-old Bernese mountain dog ourselves, and my parents who live nearby have a 8-month-old and 7-year-old (also Berners, and the 8-month-old is one of the largest Bernese Mountain dogs I have ever seen, he is already over 100 lb). When I first saw your dog in the background of the video, I thought "wait, is that a Bernese mountain dog?" And I got a huge smile on my face when I realized it was. They are just the best, most loving, friendly, good natured dogs. I love all dogs, but this breed has a particular place in my heart. Glad to know I'm not the only massive Nintendo fan with a Berner :) I bet our dogs would be good friends!

Mario Wonder looks amazing - they've not refined the 2D Mario formula in such a long time, and it really looks like they went back to the drawing board and came up with some new things to set this one apart from all the previous New Super Mario Bros World Land U Remake Remaster stuff we've been getting for years. I personally think this has a chance of being a "Tropical Freeze" moment for 2D Mario in terms of redefining that category of Mario games from here.

How many of them are "new" games and not just altered-variant re-releases? Remasters and such don't count as "new" in context to the question. I counted Pikman 4 Mario: Weird addition And. . . peach? I guess??? Not sure where you are getting the forth from unless you are counting re-releases, in which case that number goes up even higher. Edit: . . . OH WAIT!!!! Is the 4th one Wario Ware? xD

The first 2 we didn't get from the direct, we got those from the flipping past. As for peach, if you don't get 1.) a title. 2.) A premise. 3.) Gameplay 4.) A genre, 5.) A logo. nor 6.) A release window, then what exactly quantifies it? I'm not saying it's not a game, but I will say it's a revealess reveal. It's like a shoe store telling you they also sell high heals and that's all the intel you got on them.

That was a great direct! I'm particuliarly excited for Dragon Quest Monster : the Dark Prince DQ being my favorite JRPG franchise (even if you skipped it, I forgive you) and being a Mario fan, that were some great announcements indeed!

I loved this direct for more than just mario. I was interested in a ton of the smaller games as well. I think this direct was one of the best ones in a WHILE. Also Mario and Spider-Man launching on the same day is wild to me

I'm surprised by how many people found it underwhelming or mid. If you're a Mario Fan I think it's a clear 10/10, but even if you're not I think there was great stuff all around. Pikmin 1/2 is pretty awesome, Pokemon Detective Pikachu, Metal Gear, P5 Tactica, another WarioWare, Star Ocean, DQ Monsters, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Arkham Trilogy. Almost every announcement intrigued me.

Luigis Mansion 2 is the worst in the franchise, Arkham Trilogy is years old and available on nearly every modern system already, many people are oversaturated with 2D Games and thats why there isnt that much hype for Wonders, Detective Pikachu was extremly mid on 3DS and the graphics were rough, Pikmin 4 was announced months ago with it being most likely the best in the franchise (there is no need to play the first 2 anymore) and so on. The only thing that really intrigued myself was Super Mario RPG. People wanted to see Metroid Prime 4, Mario Sluggers, a new 3D Mario or Mario Kart game, Windwaker/Twilight Princess HD, a good StarFox game, a new F-Zero game, Remake of Paper Mario on GameCube etc.

Even if you're a Mario fan it's a little underwhelming we got a few surprise announcements on games in the works but they're all spin-offs, if 2D is your thing that's fantastic, and I will admit the new “Mario on acid” does look good, though I would've preferred an Odyssey 2 development announcement and a Galaxy 2 port holdover, but I do agree that's expecting too much... Pikmin getting all the games ported is a cool surprise but is a complete slap in the face to the Zelda HD ports, which if it wasn't for TotK coming out and being awesome id be much more critical on, I'll give it a 6/10, it was good but nothing in it made me super excited and Pikmin rubbing the salt in more over the HD ports didn't help

Ngl I think that was one of the best directs in a while, Two new Mario platformers, Detective Pickachu, Arkham trilogy on switch is cool, Luigi's Mansion 2 Remaster, A Mario RPG remake, Warioware, Pikmin 1 & 2 remasters as well as a new look at Pikmin 4, Mario Kart DLC etc. Not everything was for me but a pretty strong showing I do agree with you in that the Pokemon games in particular look really dated & was I the only one that thought they were about to announce Zelda DLC when they announced the amiibo? But overall a pretty good direct imo but I always love hearing your perspectives.

I wasn’t really expecting much, since we just had Zelda, but 7 Stars had me lose my mind. I didn’t expect to see another 2D Mario, and I’m thrilled! I couldn’t get into the 3d offerings, so I’m looking forward to this. Plus, couch coop, if we aren’t doing the taking turn 2 player games anymore, is great for the husband and I to game together after work.

I don’t even know if you will respond but I just got home my tears of the kingdom switch and it won’t turn on even after charging it for 35 mins . It turned on for half a second and showed the Nintendo logo in grey but won’t do anything now. What would you do?

We have a character in germany, Called Benjamin Blümchen. He is an Elephant on two legs and looks very similiar to the Mario Elephant. Benjamin comes from the same Company wich produces the Bibi Blocksberg and Bibi and Tina series. These Series started as an Audio Drama in Casette from many years ago. Almost every german kid grew up with them.

I also love the 2.5D type of graphics. Makes me want Square and Pokémon to work on a game. Pokémon had great sprite work but have done horribly with transition to 3d. So I’d be ok with them trying to go back to sprites.

Not sure if y'all saw the report, but detective Pikachu 2 was actually developed as a 3ds game. It was heavily delayed so it didn't make sense to release it there. But that's why the graphics look so rough

10:12 I freaking agree. Completely. I stay updated on all things from Mario Kart, but I’ve been done with that game for years now. It first came out when I was going into college, now it’s been five years since I’ve graduated. Nintendo really knows how to stretch things out. I am so over waiting for the next Mario Kart.

I loved the direct! And I think the new Mario games will be amazing! I’ve never played the Pikmin games but since all of them are coming to the Switch I might check them out. I like being able to play as Daisy in Super Mario Bros Wonder too.

not sure if anyone else has already posted this but Lugi's Mansion Dark Moon is Luigi's Mansion 2... glad its coming over as it's a fun game... shame that the first hasn't been moved over though to complete the trilogy on switch.. maybe one day.

I'm 39... so i LOVE 2D Mario games!!! Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World are some of my favorite games of all time, so Super Mario Wonder is a MUST for me.

Mario-fan here, and I'm extremely hyped. Super Mario RPG is one of my favourite games of all time. It was packed with games imo, that's what a Direct should be. I'm so excited! Any Direct that has Super Mario RPG is an instant 10, in my book, but this also had a new Super Mario game, Peach (meh) and Luigi's Mansion + Pikmin, Star Ocean, Batman, MGS and other stuff. I think this is a top-level Direct.

I am so freakin excited about a Super Mario Bros game!!! The New Super Mario Bros Wii game was the FIRST game I’ve ever played on a console (and actually the first video game I’ve ever played),way back in 2009 with my dad ❤

I was just like you man when I saw the MarioRPG pop up. I was like, "Eh, it's just gonna be the online thingy." Then I was like, "Wait, it's already on the service." Then the cinematic happened and the title popped up and I friggin fan boyed like crazy. I am so hyped for it!!!!

Am I weird for thinking the games don't really look "rough" graphics-wise? I mean sure, lots of triple A games nowadays are 100x more beautiful on PC and PS5, but come on, it's the Switch. It's not like I (and most other people?) are expecting mega graphics on a Switch. I mean it's not like Zelda on the Switch looks graphically insane.

My initial reaction to Mario RPG was just like Wood. My favorite game as a kid and I even attempted to beat it on my phone later. The platforming wasn't great on mobile though.

Nintendo didn't forget Mario RPG. They just couldn't touch it because nearly every aspect of it was licensed by Square, and they went under and formed Square Enix after this. So Nintendo had licensing issues. I'm intrigued to find out if they made a deal with Square Enix to touch this IP, or if they just bought the rights back to it.
