That quest was a bit nuts! Just looking at the number of bodies scattered about the place makes me realized just how stupidly oversized it all was. Once we get rid of the last of the mech turrets we are going to incinerate all the bodies, they are adding way to much wealth to the tile.

Whew! hopefully that warded it off after francis just jinxed the future of his playthrough. Really though your pawns are like the black knight: **Tis but a mere flesh wound!**

Hi Francis John, would normal bombs not work better than molotov based that it will delete all without the need of fire? Or is that not the case? Thank you for answering all questions i had preciously it's much appreciated ☺️

@@haroldadriaansen1344 Molotov's are great for bunched up items as fire spreads, but the inevitable snow means a roofed burn area is preferable. For spread out stuff grenades are better. But it depends on if you are willing to micromanage all the destruction. By that I mean you can roof a burn stockpile, let your pawns haul the stuff in, throw a couple of cocktails and you are done.

The problem isn't the quantity of wealth, it's the ability to convert that wealth into doomsdays. Drugs sell to all traders, but not traders buy tailcaps.

At this point the research tab is called 'A Dog Said' because it can't say 'A Francis Clicked.' I just hope that it has bionic udders for the cows. They are going to have some serious milking for that sweet ice sheet cheese to go with those fur caps. Come to think of it: insanely cold, beer, fur caps, cheese, way too much cuddling out of the cold. This isn't Rimworld. This is Wisconsin.

41:12 might be worth it to just make a "stay in base" area for your pawns during times like these instead of manually changing the home zone everytime.

Why not both? I have an "Indoors" and "Base Area" zone that I can set pawns to stay in. I use the Indoors zone to control cleaning priorities instead of the home zone. Saves them cleaning dirt from dirt.

40:45 the random injured guys were probably the survivors from the previous raid that attacked from the left hand side very close to the turrets. A few managed to flee, "regrouped" and immidiately attacked again

When trading with orbital ships, place a beacon outside, or under unroofed tiles, in order to designate a spot for all trade drops to land. A beacon inside one of the windfarms could be a nice spot, almost always walled in.

Ok Francis... this is why mechanoids dont always chase you away from their mech clusters: There is a difference between Mech Clusters spawning naturally (as in they just show up randomly) AND Mech Clusters showing up because of a quest. The mechanoid from random clusters always become agressive when their structures or guardians are damaged, and its almost guaranteed they will charge their enemies. However, the Quest related clusters are more defensive. The mechanoids will not charge when their structures or guardians are damaged, they will more likely only engage targets that get close. But will almost always retreat back to the cluster when the threat is gone. They will almost never charge, except melee mechs which usually chase enemies so long they are within line of sight. So this is why the mech cluster you attacked at around minute 7:00 is not charging you, it is a Quest Cluster, not a Random Cluster. And it guardians will remain there until all of its important structures are destroyed/disabled such as the Problem Causer, the Auto Turrets and the Assemblers. If you were to somehow disable all of these structures, any remaining mechanoids would immediatelly become agressive instead of defensive. So there you go. I know this from extensive testing and playing around with cluster myself haha. I hope this helps clear up some doubts.

When you listened to that comment about the Termites, I knew what was coming. Yes, you want to kill the Termites first, but all of the other mechanoids will continue to target your walls. Once upon a time, killing the Termites forced the rest of the mechs to wander round to your killbox, however that was patched out. This type of raid always head in a straight line to your animal sleeping spots, I have no idea what happens if there are no animal sleeping spots, but I have not seen a Termite since I stopped making sleeping spots for my animals, but I would not rely on just my experience, maybe try it out on a test map? Love these longer vids, thank you. :)

AdamvsEverything has a "cheese run" going where he's shown that colonist beds (assigned beds) are the target of breach raids (mech or human). He has no assigned beds in his colony except for two at the tile corners farthest from his base (outside of allowed zones). Breachers immediately go to those beds, then cycle back and forth between them like they're looking for the occupants. Mechs stay there forever. Human raids break when they get hungry and either leave the tile or head for the base (through the killbox) to get food. I don't think he has animal beds (except medical), so perhaps those are targeted first and then colonist beds.

your base needs floors they will massively increase the move speed it hase somthing to do with all that snow they have to move through, i suggest steel tile or concreate

This! People look at floors as being cumbersome so they tend to wait building them. While building them ASAP gives greatest benefits in speed and morale. I've always build them as soon i could afford them, calculate them in the build. Saves heartache after getting used to it 😉

Well cleaning them for a start, there was no wood, stone or steel on the map and man power was low soooo....... he could do it now but I’m sure there’s a reason he’s not probably wealth

​@@TSPKane The value of the floor is half the value of the materials used, so it effectively reduces wealth. Concrete only takes 1 steel to make, it is ugly though, steel tiles are neutral, and he probably has enough pawns now to have a couple of dedicated cleaners.

This! Ice is a whopping 48% move speed, and the thick snow covering it is another 52% move speed. Build some floors and clear that snow and suddenly your pawns will zoom around - inside, at least.

I wonder why there is no mood penalty for not having proper floors when your pawns have high expectations. They get ate without table debuff right from the beginning but are fine with sand/snow,etc floors?! I need a mod that fixes this lol

36:40 I wonder if ship landing beacons obstruct wind generators, if not, maybe building a dedicated landing zone may prevent "inappropriate" shuttle landings

Beacons - no, only shatle when it lands. Also, 1 disabled beacon somewhere in the turbine zone will allow you to drop what you bought there, and not behind the wall.

Yeah, if it is not a shuttle crash quest, the pick-up shuttle will land at your designated zone.

I think it should really be something more ice sheet cannibal themed than intern if you're going to change it. Something like organbag, trenchmeat, or ditchfodder. Just to really stress that just because they're out of prison doesn't mean they get a name and it's not too late to have Jerek peel off their face and wear it like a hat.

For the statues, one of them has to meet the requirements. So long as one of the statues meets it the rest can be put in other places in your base.

Just a little tip for thrumbo hunting: If the notification is orange, only hit thrumbos aggro, if it is red all thrumbos in a radius around the hit one go manhunter too Should save you some clicks for the next common thrumbos

Like the new naming system. Also, definitely make a roofed burning pile dumping zone outside using single pillars. That way, you can burn corpses during snow plus they automatically refill if you use them for defence too by shooting out the pillars during raids. Looking forward to the new bioregeneration tech. Still haven't seen it used before.

Log of 125 JaRyCu, Ghostly Emissary of Emily: Today I was awakened by our Lord of Butchering Emily. It seems a new colony has been founded and is now worshipping her. It was my job to check them out and see if they were worthy, or if Emily would need to tell Randy to quit being a pansy and really attack them. I was not disappointed. It seems as if they were employing the "Australia" defense that the original Mini Munchkins used all those years ago. And behold! 20 thrumbo horns!! This group will definitely live on and deserves the right to worship at the flip flops of Emily. Long live Emily, Mother of Slaughter & Beauty!

Cargo from orbital traders tries to fall inside the range of an orbital beacon. You can build one inside one of your power bricks, to make sure that purchases land savely inside your premises

FJ, for the love of randy: don't save on shield- and smoke-pops. You know how expensive those bionic eyes are? And lucky you, it did not go through into the skull - the best you can hope out of those is a Yunners. Ah and as others already noted: that guy dies in a few minutes. AND: you are again forgetting your caster abilites. Putting out fire with waterskip, or creating makeshift baricades with stoneskip (and not forgetting: "hauling" the junk into your base with that trick)? Vertigo pulse on some raiders putting your killbox on fire? But as allways, thank you for that entertaining episode 🙂

A Vanometric power cell is great but that last raid just delivered the equivalent of an oil tanker of chemfuel from the corpses, not to mention enough leather for tail caps to start your own fashion line

This used to be such a beautiful landscape. You could come and watch the migrating Thrumbos on their migration path. Serene and happy, as one with nature. Now it's a wasteland covered in dead bodies, mech corpses, and the Thrumbos really are rare.

Suggestion: Take something about the size of your windfarm boxes, make it a dumping stockpile for human corpses and tainted clothes. Have it all hauled there and roof it over except for one tile, then, when you need to cleanup the map, you throw one molotov in and it's all good. Bonus points if this is the antechamber to the killbox for a nice warm welcome on demand. I use a similar thing with haygrass in my killing zones and then I put the excess/unwanted animals in the way to soak up bullets. Bonus points for doing it with boomalopes.

I've been doing a sea ice playthrough as well, and it's the most fun I think I've had playing RimWorld! Thanks for the inspiration! Any tips from the crowd on auto harvesting bonsai trees, or for steam deck control schemes, would be awesome.

Unfortunately on the sea ice tiles, once your wealth reaches a certain mark, all you get are mech raids. It's too cold for most of the year for human raids.

The injured guy who attacked from the warden quest may have been a deserter from the first or second group who attacked the tile.

I can't believe I never thought about this in the past: it's possible to use the convert ability on visitor pawns. If they have traits that increase their Certainty Loss Factor, such as Volatile, and if your moral guide has high social, it's quite possible to convert them and to get an easy development point like this. The game tells you exactly how much of a pawn's certainty will change just before you use the convert ability on them. If a caravan visits you or a bestowing convoy or whatever, you can quickly look which pawns will loose the most certainty, then take a lot at what their current certainty level is in their social tab so you don't waste it.

Keeping a small quantity of lavish meals that have to be manually ordered to be eaten (forbid in meal permissions) can help a lot with high psychic drones.

In my experience orbital traders *ALWAYS* drop their product in the same place. Only changing if that section if the land gets roofed or otherwise blocked off.

The thing with setting outside fires is that Im pretty sure all storytellers force a rain/snow to put the fires out, useful for forest fires, not so useful for when you need to torch raid wealth

11:46 as much as love the chaos of it all. Things like that really need to be updated in the mental break system. If a door is locked or if a threat is nearby, the ai of the colonist should adapt to it and avoid it instead of eventually going headfirst into it.

@@somethingspecial678 I don't think anyone would be that lost from reality. They'd either need to be drunk af or have a huge emotional impact via losing their dearest or an intense breakup. Getting that far off just being annoyed by the disrespected statues and ideogram or the drone doesn't make sense to me. They could just develop a system that takes account for both situations and have the ai act accordingly. Like in extreme breaks, they won't give any fucks and be self destructive but in minor break, being able to snap out of it if they're close to danger or are being harmed.

@@bruhder5854 when I think of the mental breaks, I see Bill Paxton throwing a fit, yelling "Game over!!!" and just giving up hope. This means going suicide by combat, walking into fire/freezing conditions naked, and other "fuck it, I'll die happy or in glory" type stuff. Running outside to die naked fighting Mechs with a bone knife or something is exactly what I'd expect.

Funfact Luci doesn't count as a drug for chemical interests, and pawns won't just randomly grab it, you have a greater worry that Hope or one of the wargs just randomly eat one as animals will sometimes just eat a drug for nutrition for some reason, i've had cats get blackout drunk from just one beer cause their body size is so small, i think i've seen rats outright die from eating a single beer.

Oh yeah thats true, I have had some of my precious animals just randomly get addicted to luciferium for some reason, its uncommon, but infuriating when it happens.

Orbital deliveries will try and drop as close to an orbital beacon as possible. If an orbital beacon is exposed to the sky then it will prioritize dropping within its radius on any empty unroofed spot.

FJ, four things... 1. Loved the episode! 2. Your shooting specialist should have bionic eyes anyway; this is the excuse you needed. 3. Why did you sit there letting the inferno centipede shoot? You could have sent everyone out to kill him as soon as he was targeting the running pawn. 4. I died a little inside when you didn't buy the archotech leg from that trader instead of more neutroamine. And a bonus 5, I notice you add random extra letters to so many words... it's a teeth-grinding but simultaneously endearing FJ thing...

At 200K wealth and 500% I think you're getting pretty close to the raid cap (better verify, though). That and the OP killbox + darkness means you should transition to "max defense" and not sweat keeping wealth low. From this point it's unavoidable: you're going to get massive accumulations of bodies/gear and be producing very expensive weapons and gear. Better to fortify yourself (inflammable walls, floors to improve walk speed, and bionics would be my route).

I just have to wonder, what did those 3 paralytic abasia ridden people did to warrant such a huge raid coming for them? Those poor raiders, didn't know what they got themselves into. Also, I like that for you to be called a "monster" by Francis is if you don't buy the hats he made by skinning the prisoners he converted and executed for development points.

If you set up columns with roof around it outside, you could burn the bodies, plus you could shoot out the column and hurt raiders with the collapsing roof.

Tip: Put an Orbital drop beacon Outside and roofed in a safe place. The Drops seems to arrive at the closest beacon.

Keep an eye out for psychic foil helmets from bulk good traders since they are relatively cheap and can really save you during high psychic drones

That's the rub of it, since mechanoids are so common cold is more of a problem for us than them. Though one climate adjuster is good it keep temps from ever getting above 0C. But two is a little bit to much.

Ohh good point, I should really invest in a few of those. I stopped using them during the max pop playthrough as I could not source enough. But for a colony this small we can afford to buy a bunch.

I tend to use regular grenades instead of molatovs. 2 grenades destroys a corpse, and on non-sea-ice maps you don't have to worry about fires

Thing about molatov is that you can just spark one or two fire and the corpses will catch on to it over time without much work from your pawn.

A good thing to do is just to roof the zone. Can be as easy as making a single stone wall in the middle of the corpse stockpile and make a roof outwards as far as it can reach. There would probabbly be enouch space to place around 120 corpses there

It really all depends on corpse density, the denser the pile the easier for fire to spread before the snow/rain starts. With spread out piles grenades look to be the better option. I just did a quick read back over that and realized that I should never say that stuff out loud... ever.

easy way to get rid of mech cluster "building " or mortar without proximity activator is with 8-9 high-explosive shell(3 for mortar) and few woods and molotov, it seem pawn/animal and just walk up to the building and mech will just ignore the pawn, with enough planning, the whole cluster can be destroy by one tiny fire sometimes when there are no turret or mech near the building , building can be destroy without waking up those mech , making it a perfect defense against fleshy raid

Maybe use the same strat with your base as with your prisoners when you have low mood and are forbidding the doors - put up a wall so pawns can’t go for silly walks outside.

Placing walls just inside the doors, then forbid them at 1-2 work left, and finish them up as needed for a properly sealed base. Wallraise psycast works just as well, though a bit far off for that yet.

dunno if anybody told you yet, but if you trap your prisoners in a cell, then de-asign their sleeping spots, they have 0 chance of breakout (unless they hotfixed this at one point) and the only time they'll try to break out its if they have a mental breakdown like berserk

Penoxycyline is a must. Less plagues, flu and malaria. Though Malaria and Ice Sheets aren't normally an overlap. so you should be okay there.

Given the corpse piles you normally end up with I feel like you'd quite like the Revia Mod given that offers options for processing large volumes of corpses into different items and boosts for your Revia pawns :D

Just because you mentioned the Zzzt event so often, have you ever taken a look at the circuit breaker mod? It doesn't disable the event completely but it can contain where the overload happens to a specific spot which you pick in advance

52:29 You read the raid screen wrong i think, your end result is not maxxed out at 10k. You can see in the second to last intermediate that your calculated force factor is 15394 points but it says next "Force max 10000pts" and in the last result, you can see it's 10000 that's taken as the force factor. Multiplied by the randy factor of .64, that can go up to 1.5 and then multiplied by the strategy factor (i haven't found if it goes above 1). Assuming worst case scenario (1.5 and 1) at this point the max would be 15k not 10k :D About the landing of goods you trade by ship, it seems it will always land outside of the closest powered orbital trade beacon. In my first playthrough i used to put one outside so that it always landed on it. On this one, you can pretty easily shift one close to the wall and it'll always land on the outside of that wall (as long as you don't have a beacon outside)

In honour of the heritage of Australia, I suggest not "Ice-stralia" or anything like that, but rather: Canada. Cold, dark, far to the north, and full of large, rare and potentially dangerous wildlife (see thrumbo, think moose?). Why not? The piles of corpses aren't quite a perfect fit, but hey, we try our best.

Given you're routinely getting masterworks now, you could swap to thrumbofur dusters and tribalwear for the extra armor. They'll provide around -58 cold insulation, which would be more than enough if you removed the climate adjustments.

It gets to -70C or more in winter, while we could keep to sets of clothes I am a bit to lazy for that. I'm a bit disappointed that we can't use any of the power armours, they don't have the necessary cold protection.

Mechs have a minimum "comfortable" temperature of -100 C. I wonder what happens below that? I assume they don't get hurt but maybe they don't randomly raid you? You could build a roof for the burning to avoid the snow.

Just think of all the human skin duster you could make from all them bodies. =) You will trigger the weather ever time you're burning things for a long time. I would have body burn pits on all my maps I played, and it would always rain or snow after they burn for so long.
