That Raccoon Cafe In Seoul Everyone Is Hyped About

Inside a raccoon cafe at Hondae, Seoul.
The entrance fee costs 6~7000 won which is about 5.29 US dollars, and buying drinks is optional. I recommend that you don't buy drinks unless you're extremely thirsty, because the guideline says that you should put your drinks up whenever you see a raccoon around your table. If you already bought one, make sure you put it onto somewhere high up.
These adorable fat, fluffy raccoons run around making troubles literally every second.
With over 288 animal cafes in South Korea, there are some controversies over these industries becoming insanely popular since 2016. Wild mammals including raccoons need a minimum of few hundred㎢ for living space. Putting these animals inside some ㎡ cafes can be extremely stressful, animal professionals say. Plus, if these industries go bankrupt, the animals left behind are likely to end up in animal farms or shelters.
Nonetheless, if these cafes are kept clean with healthy animals, and visitors follow the guidelines with great care, it is definitely one of the best places to visit in Seoul, South Korea.
Don't forget to wear a hoodie with lot of pockets. Raccoons go CRAZY over digging pockets, pulling hoodie straps, and so on.

when I went there earlier this year I just became really sad. Most of the raccoons were sleeping in high places probably because they knew people wouldn’t bother them and the only raccoon that wasn’t sleaping was jumping against the wall like in this video. I know it looks cute and funny but that raccoon obviously wants outta there. These animals are not supposed to be locked up in a small space with a ton of people constantlu around them with no place to hide. I know it’s bad for the bussiness if all the animals are in hiding but there should always be a place where they can go relax in peace if they feel so. This cafe had no place for them to do that. And overall there wasn’t much activities arranged for the animals. You could also see the dogs behaving in a very lethargic way, meaning they were most likely extremely stressed and the only way they can be alone is by ”sleeping” or most likely just laying down and not moving’ cause then people didn’t go pet them. The few dogs that moved around were constantlu harrassed with people touching and following them. And you could see that the dogs did not enjoy that since they showed no reaction and quickly found a new corner to lay in. I just generally felt like the owners cared more about people coming in and seeing raccoons than the wellbeing of those animals. Please don’t support this animalprison for your own selfish needs.

Every time I see words like 'animal prison' the first thing that pops into my mind is "Oh look, another animal lover who thinks the world is a Disney Movie where all the animals that live in the wild are happy all the time and nothing ever goes horribly wrong"
@ihggsisterr
@ihggsisterr 3 жыл бұрын
TheKyrix82 i’m not saying all animals that live in the wild are ”happy” all the time. I just think that if you’re going to keep animals as pets and ecpesially if you make money of of them; you should also treat them with respect and care. All animal cafes are not ”animal prisons” as i said, but this particular place didn’t treat the animals as they should be treated.

Surface: cul trash panda place Reality: By introducing raccoons into an environment where being social with humans leads to rewards, we expect genetic variability to more docile treats in the racoons on the café when compared to those on natural areas. We estimate a period of 10 to 20 years of adaptation and artificial selection before we can introduce these domesticated raccoons to the consumer market, giving us a 3000% increase in revenue.

@JBcoolbreez yeah that's what I was wondering, too. I've known a lot of folks who either had pet raccoons taken from the wild as babies (rescued), or befriended wild ones (one family friend was an animal trainer and he had a wild raccoon friend that would hang out in the mornings and drink his coffee, then leave for the day). In every one of those cases, first generation wild raccoons can definitely be aggressive when they get pissed off. But I do wonder how many gens of breeding it would take to truly domesticate them. Like you said, with foxes it happens quickly, but with wolves, they can still be a serious handful after several gens (have a cousin who has owned 3, and had a client at a vet clinic who owned 2... Also all the stories of people buying wolf-dog hybrids after watching GoT then surrendering them because it was too much work).... Bobcats are similar in that regard to wolves..... Maybe the difference is that foxes and raccoons are more omnivores and not apex predators?? We need scientific studies on this!!! lol

Racoons are not a domesticated species, and wild animals should not be kept in places like these. You don’t see wolves, deer or bear cafes, that would be insane. Racoons are not social animals and seeing them treated as cats and dogs makes me really sad and anxious. Pets are not attractions, they’re wonders of nature and need protection from us, not exploitation to make profit. Please don’t give credit or money to wild animals cafes like these and respect the creatures you encounter.

If you take them by the scruff it won't hurt them. Its a show of dominance, like when they are young their mom would hold them like that and in a fight, they will go for the scruff to show dominance to each other. Maybe he raised them and owns the place? Maybe they see him as a father figure. Its the same for dogs and cats. But he seems to scruff them properly not sure though. I've never seen someone scruff a racoon in person to know the exact way but its encouraged to do so with young animals when they are being bad because their moms would do that. It does seem abusive but it isn't i dont think.

This looks better than it actually is. Raccoon is nearly impossible to tame and train, keeping them with human and dogs would not have a good consequence. 00:59 You can see a man, a staff maybe trying to give that Raccoon a lesson, but as I said above, it's bascially a useless method. That's how they teach their animals in front of camera, you won't like to know how they would do in private occasion.

@@JoshucaVA Really only Dogs and horses are bred to that extent of domestication. Cats and Foxes are at about the same level- tame, but don't necessarily offer anything besides companionship and CAN live on their own. Edit: Because nobody reads replies, what I mean by this is that the only thing that comes as a RESULT of their domestication (cats and foxes) is being friendly towards humans. Yes, they hunt rodents, but that is something they do just by nature, NOT because of domestication.

To all the people saying "you don't have to look" that's like saying if a porn ad shows up in the middle of a movie "you don't have to look". Neither of the two were expected or wanted.
