Publicity campaign song for an anime movie entitled "Oshiri Tantei", which literally means "Butt Detective" or "Detective Rear End". There's love in the lyrics, which may pertain to the movie, which has a sort of romantic plot-line (despite its title), but the lyrics stand on their own and don't need a movie plot-line. Vocalist Mayu said she was thinking of her baby boy when she recorded this, as he was ill at the time. Guitarist Saki (viewer's right) said she was channeling Brian May for some of the counter-melody in the chorus. Music/lyrics by a big-name song-writer and producer, Ryosuke Imai, who's worked in pop, R&B, hip hop. He's probably best known for his work with J-Pop superstar Namie Amuro, especially her song "Hero". He saw Nemophila at the Aftershock Fest in Sacramento in 2022 and liked their sound. Arrangement by Nemophila's usual collaborator Kensuke Akiyama. Imai explained that the song title "Odyssey" evokes the epic poem of that name from ancient Greece. Just as the protagonist Odysseus experienced a life-transforming journey, so the trajectory a band follows or any human relationship follows-lovers, husband/wife, parent/child-is a transformational journey.

Their new album, including this track, have been out for nearly a month, and I've been enjoying all of it.. and everything else they release, for that matter. Their style is whatever they want it to be at the moment, and it's always excellent. As a side note, the new Infected Rain album just came out 2 days ago, really worth a listen.

Some very killer Japan metal bands out there with different styles. But Nemophila is my favorite because just how diverse they are. they can melt your face , play killer rock song with cool solos then they come out with a beautiful power ballad. They can play everything.
