I had a neighbor in much worst condition than this. It was during the epidemic I had wondered how I didn’t see her in months. I actually thought she had moved out. I remember seeing her every so often taking out her trash cans to the curb. She was the kind of Nextdoor neighbor I didn’t really hold a long conversation with instead it was more like a wave and “hello” relationship…but she was walking then. One day I had gotten so worried that I went to her front door and knocked on it and was surprised to hear a response. I waited for 45mins for her to crawl to the door to open it. She could not wash at this point. When I went in her house (first time ever) I had gagged bc of the stench. She had open sores on her legs with maggots wiggling on and around her. Because she was not mobile she slept on the floor in her living room…and bc she couldn’t make it to the bathroom she had bags all around her with body waste in them. At that time I think she was about 50yrs old. Her house did seem bare. I don’t know why. I only know that I had to go home to bring back stuff for her to cover her nakedness with. God did I try but that was a bigger job for myself alone. I did my best to get her Immediate surroundings less filthy. I called 911 that first day but when the paramedics came she refused to leave her house. And by law they said they couldn’t not move her against her will. Apparently she was getting ppl from the state come to help her (caregivers) but she kept firing everyone. I was helping her for a few months by myself and I am pretty sure that she was ok with just using me to do all her errands and helping her at home. I had to put a stop to it bc after a while I realized that she was becoming too dependent and demanding. I have the ability to spoil ppl. But i had to let her know that if she cannot keep caregiver then she’ll have to go to a ‘home’ bc I could not keep up the pace of working 12hr days and coming home to take care of myself and my dogs etc. she did not get along with the family member closest to her….but I ended up calling that cousin and explaining the situation. She could not live by herself. In the end the cousin started coming over to help and then after she had her last health scare that sent her to the hospital…she went straight to a rehab facility which she now lives with 24hr care. I felt bad bc I know she never wanted to live in a group home but what else could I do.

That's the Russian system I guess. I'm not saying it's like this everywhere in Russia - probably better in big cities. And of course this can as well happen elsewhere. But structural widespread problems including indifferent aid workers or institutions vs. lone select cases elsewhere can make a big difference. I already fear getting old and more fragile in western nations - so I wouldn't want to switch with someone lone and aging in a remote place in Russia.

Believe me, here in the UK the official indifference can equal this...and it has lead to deaths.

This is so so sad!! Fortunately, in the states we have a good med. Team set up as far as medics and fire dept coming out together. There are signs in the ER stating you can't b turned away from any treatment. This is horrible what this man's going thru!!!

We have the best care in the world in the uk 🇬🇧!, But far too many people call ambulances!! For minor issues! Makes me mad as people who need them keep dying!!

He might still die in that room. The hospital only agreed to keep him for a week (just like last time) and they brought him right back. We need a follow up to confirm the old folks home nearby actually admitted him into the facility. Until we see that, I'm assuming they dropped him back off at that trash "home" after the cameras stopped rolling.

We’ve had our share of horror and neglect stories though - we’re not perfect here unfortunately. Sending patients out of hospital in freezing weather, not clothed properly with nowhere to go. That case of the native woman who was ignored in the emergency department and died…

The german constitution has this sentence amongst others "Human dignity shall remain untouchable" - This should be in every countries constitution. helping such cases should not be matter of random compassion but enforcable and enforced by law. The ambulance that refuses to help, would find itself in front of a judge in germany. The law term is "failure to provide assistance" (отказ в оказании помощи) and it is a very serious offense in the german courtsystem. It might cost you your license as doctor. Similar things exist in other EU countries. Never compare to the USA, the u.s. is a 3rd world country when it comes to the treatment of the less fortunate. If youre lucky enough to get helped, you would find yourself broke for life afterwards.

It's videos and comments like this that remind me I would much rather be dead than be disabled. Humans weren't meant to be old. I don't think I would want to live past 50.
