Process of how I wheel threw a porcelain bowl, coloured it while it was still fresh, and created a spiral pattern. Here’s a breakdown of the process:
I wedged 1.3kg porcelain clay to remove air bubbles and ensure a smooth consistency beforehand.
I center the prepared clay on the wheel. With the wheel spinning, I carefully shape the clay into a bowl. I focus on creating an even wall thickness and a smooth rim. I use rib tools to refine the shape.
While the bowl is still on the wheel and the clay is wet, I apply coloured slips to the surface. I choose vibrant colors that will stand out and complement the final design.
Using a fine-point tool, I gently carve a spiral pattern into the coloured surface of the bowl. I start from the center and work my way outwards, ensuring the spiral is even and continuous.
