The B58 is a very reliable engine, and it’s a reliable engine because Toyota did the durability testing and failure analysis on it. If the B58 is a reliable engine, the Supra is a reliable car

With the new supra being a co development between the two. I just think that the true supra enthusiasts want a 100% toyota not a co develop rebadged bmw despite the reliability of the engine. It took away from the legacy of the celica supra in the 70s to the mk3 and the mk4s that made it so legendary in the tunner world of true jdm. Is all the major sales decline kinda shows it too. Almost a 40% decline in sales since the release.

@@michaellamb5781 they can’t really do that in the modern economic climate tho. The BMW collaboration was a necessary evil if the Supra was to return. Besides, I hope you know it was as much a Supra as it was a BMW. Toyota made sure to do strict reliability testing and failure analysis on all the parts down to each individual bolt and rivet on the car to ensure it met Toyota’s strict reliability and quality standards. Any part that didn’t meet those standards was sent back to BMW for re-evaluation. Albon made a video on the subject a while back; you should go check it out

Supra mk5 uses BMW engine

From what I can tell (also not a big car guy but I worked at a dealership before) generally yes, BMW is a more luxury brand than Toyota but "lower grade" companies do tend to have 1 or two higher quality luxury and/or performance vehicles but they're not common place enough for most non-car people to know much of them. The Supra is one of those higher end cars you won't see every day despite being made by a company whose logo is on alot of average cars. That being said, "higher end" is casting kind of a wide net from a standard consumer perspective and I have no idea where in that range a Supra would even fall into. But they are cool tho

It rides on a BMW Chassis, uses a BMW engine and pretty much has the same interior aswell (for obvious reasons). That being said the Mk5 Supra is arguably a good car all around and also it's not like toyota just took a BMW, slapped a Supra badge on there and called it a day, which is what a lot of people think they did.

They ride on the same platform, use the same engine and have the same interior. That is enough to warrant people saying it's basically the same car, because it mostly is but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Supra Mk5 is a good car so who tf cares if it rides on a Z4 platform and has it's engine?

Toyota is too lazy to build anything themselves. Also, the A90 is an actually competently handling car that makes more power than advertised (as most BMWs do). The A80 was the JDM weeb fanboyed hellcat of the 90s. Fast in a straight line, can make tons of power over stock with mods, handles like a boat compared to its contemporaries (FD, GT-R, Camaro, Mustang etc.) So yeah, this one is a more complete sports car than the A80 ever was.
