Technically you CAN get the crit with a flare gun (and the Axtinguisher) but you have to hit them RIGHT when they're being hit with flames and are technically considered "burning", something that is pretty much only possible with either the Degreaser's faster switch speed or having another friendly Pyro with you.

The reason using flare guns on enemy pyros kinda sucks is because pyros naturally don't suffer afterburn, meaning the benefits you get for hitting burning players is gone. But the reason the Manmelter is the best in pyro v pyro fights is because with the stored crits, you can hit those 90 damage shots right of the bat, and with 2 crits stored up, that's 180 damage, 5 more than you need to kill a pyro

The Flare itself on the Manmelter should extinguish too, being able to extinguish people at long range would make it a lot better and more fun, it’s would be like the Crusader’s Crossbow for Pyro

I didn't hate the scorch shot until today when I tried sniper for the first time in a while. FSoaS is a sniper main, so I understand his hate for it.

My ideal rebalance of the Manmelter would double-down on it being an anti-Pyro 'flare gun'. Have it absorb incoming flames in general (coming from the front, of course), maybe every 50 or 75 damage worth of flames you absorb gives you a crit, alongside the extinguish bonus. Hold down M2, and watch as the enemy Pyro just feeds you fire from the front, and any glitchy particles that get through the succ give you an extra crit by extinguishing your teammates. That way the weapon has a similar functionality to the airblast in terms of countering. A well-timed airblast completely negates a Soldier and Demoman's primary weapon, so the Manmelter would negate a Pyro primary.

I feel like the manmelter is better with the phlog then the Scorch Shot because you can support your team while not having airblast. The only reason people don't use it is because people can't aim.
