To be honest it was a sh*tty/scary experience, but I decided to use my own style to make the storytelling more digestible for a wider audience, thus the tone in this video is lighter than how I felt at the time.

Anecdotally, I lived in Japan for a few years. The difference in safety compared to being in the States is night and day. I never felt threatened over there, not even by the local Yakuza, who had a strong presence during that time. Being in the States, there are so many guns floating around, you’d arguably be doing yourself a disservice to not be armed to some degree at this point. We’ve dealt with several public shootings, to include at shopping areas, and I do not live in the city. It’s not the stereotypical example, and the people involved vary greatly from what you will see portrayed in the media. Again, it’s not a stereotype, but what they are is American. That’s not to say Americans are inherently bad, that would be foolish. However, the gun culture over here is out of control, many are unfortunately very antagonistic and you can become a victim to it just minding your business, trying to do basic things. Basic things like filling up on gas at the station or going to the store, or sleeping in your bed (they were shooting right outside my window and it woke me up at 4am). And I don’t live in the city! How much relocating do we have to do to live in peace? Lol Not to dismiss your concerns or situation, but having lived in both places, Japan is super safe overall and I hope you have a great stay there.
