In 2022, the Mets got off to one of their best starts in franchise history and looked primed to win the division. The second half Braves certainly had something to say about it.

@@user-Noct i agree but i feel like thats more a problem with the expanded field than division winner even if they change to 8 best teams in each league you would see sub 500 teams. 4 playoff teams from each league shouldve been the max but they are never going back, its definitely expanding to 8 when 32 team expansion comes, just hope they dont do away with the importance of divisions is all, makes baseball more fun

@@Coronet_shop Your GM should have made a trade. The Braves GM basically rebuilt his outfield...trading for Joc Pederson, Jorge Soler, Adam Duval and Eddie Rosario (gave up virtually nothing to get those 4) after The ASB and right before The August 2nd trade deadline.

The odd thing is though that the Mets didn't do anything really wrong down the stretch, no horrible slumps, and they were a good team the whole way. But as has been said before, teh Braves that season werejust on fire the second half, and caught them at the end. I hate syaing anything good about the Mets, but there it is, they were a good team, that was in the wrong division that had a great team in it as well.

If the Mets had been trailing all year and just came short of a comeback to win the NL East, I think they go into the postseason and really challenge to win the NL. Them giving up the NL East to the Braves at the last second really killed their season as they had the “We blew it” mindset going into the postseason.

Both teams finished ahead of Phillies but Phillies were in World Series while Braves lost to Phillies in playoff series and Mets never made out of Wild Card games.

I'll never forget all the trash that Muts fans on The SBNation Muts blog "AmazinAvenue"..going on and on that The Braves were 'done', that they are going 'cruise' to The Playoffs as NL East Champs.....at the end of May! Granted they had a 10 game lead..however 4 months of baseball still to play. These Braves were the defending NL East AND World Series Champs. "Printing" your NL East banners...in late May....served Muts Nation right. As the year progressed and The Braves started chipping into The Muts lead....Muts fans (like some WHACKJOB named "Synderguard's Lunch") cried like a WHINY LITTLE B!TCHHH...saying 'why cant The Braves just let us enjoy our season...The Braves are cheaters'. When this weekend series started...Muts fans on that blog were saying 'all we have to do is win one..and we are NL East Champs...NO WAY were The Muts going to get swept..after all, they had their 3 best starting pitchers lined up to face The Braves. Even Stevie 'Hedge Fund Fraudster' Cohen cant buy The Muts a NL East title anytime soon.

BTW, what did Philthy do after beating The Braves both years? Oh yeah, they fell short of winning The World Series too. Philthy got lucky both years. Injuries to Max Fried and Spencer Strider in 2022...and Max Fried and Charlie Morton in 2023....hella helped Philly. If Wheeler got the flu the night before Game 1 of The 2022 NLCS...how effective do you think he would have been (that is what happened to Max Fried). If Nola hadnt pitched in 3 weeks due to tweaking his oblique...and he had to start Game 3 WITHOUT having any rehab appearances (just as what happened to Spencer Strider)...how effective do you think he would have been. If Wheeler had a blister bust open on his pitching hand in his last regular season start (as what happened to Fried in 2023)..how effective do you think he would have been. If Ranger Suarez had broken his finger in his last start of The 2023 Regular Season and had to go on The Injured List, missing The NLDS (which is what happened to Charlie Morton)...Who pitches in Games 1 and 4 for Philthy? Because of The Wild Card Round, Wheeler and Nola werent available for Game 1. So before you talk your smack like Philthy is all that (remember, you guys ALSO had a 3-2 lead over Arizona in The 2023 NLCS..and lost Games 6 AND 7...AT HOME).....be hella thankful that The Braves were HELLA unlucky with starting pitching injuries two years in a row...while Wheeler, Nola and Suarez all have been HELLA healthy both years.

All of the personal and team records they broke do not equal to a World Series win. Like the Dodgers. Spending all the money in the world for the top names did not equal a World Series. YET, we are still in 1st place, with the best record in MLB. If Philthy were to lose Wheeler, Realmuto and Stott.....you guys would be battling The Nationals for last place. Philthy aint gonna keep getting lucky come playoff time. Hell, you guys may not even make the playoffs in 2024. Arizona, San Diego from The West (assuming The Dodgers win the division)...and whoever doesnt win The NL East among Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Chicago Cubs and even Cincy...will be competing for a Wild Card. Only one Wild Card out of the 3 Wild Cards gets home field in The Wild Card Series. Philthy better hope they get the best record among The Wild Cards...because Philthy WILL NOT be close to winning The NL East until sometime in the 2030's.

@@gatroy13 The Braves are already without Spencer Strider (out for the year), lost Seam Murphy (one of the best catchers in MLB) in the very 1st game with an oblique injury (out over a month, minimum)..and now we've lost Ozzie Albies with a broken toe after getting hit by a pitch (another month, at least). How do you think Philthy would do if they had the same things happen to Wheeler, Realmuto and Stott? We've lost 3 very key players...still 12-5 best record in MLB right now. You guys would be battling The Nats for last place if you suffered corresponding injuries

The Braves will be National League Eastern Division Champs, and I don't even think the Mets are gonna challenge 'em! The Phils? Please, you've seen them! I won't even mention the other two teams, no one else is 1 game ahead, what are you worried about, Braves fans, the Miami trip? Kenley's arm falling off? Yeah, okay, the Braves are only gonna get better next week! And even if the Mets do turn it around against the Nats tomorrow, it will BE. TOO. LATE. THE NL EAST IS OVER! Even though we got our clocks cleaned in the NLDS, nothing will ever top that series against the Mets and what it felt like, Goliath vs Goliath. Timmy Trumpets for Edwin and Money Mike. After they dragged their nuts across MLB for the first two or three months, the Braves needed every last win, and they got every last win. The dopamine I felt once we evened it up, controlled our own destiny, and all but clinched it in the span of 3 days, is unparalleled. The Mets have my undying respect for what they accomplished that season, but I'm not at all sorry we snatched it away from them. Thanks for the memories, Frank the Tank.

The Braves went into this series knowing that they needed to win at least two of three games (mainly because they absolutely did NOT want to go in to the final series in NY having to win 2 or sweep to clinch the division). Every coach and player in a Braves uniform were ultra focused from game one on, and it showed (in the way the batters worked walks and forced the Mets top 3 pitchers to make mistakes that led to hits and runs, and the way the Braves rotation went out and sent Met after Met back to dugout). It was an amazing series to watch at Truist Park because the atmosphere was electric from the series start to finish.

The loss of Starling Marte for the last 3 weeks of September killed any chance of the Mets winning the division. Marte was the Mets best hitter in the clutch for that entire 2022 season until he got hurt against the Pirates.
