Your journey into a new, wonderful world of music is only just beginning! However, you can't say you have really experienced a Babymetal performance until you see a live performance. I'd recommend "Road of Resistance, Live in Japan". To answer a few questions, Babymetal originally started as a sub-unit of a female school idol group known as Sakura Gakuin; Babymetal was formed in 2010 as a "heavy metal music club" within this larger school idol group by a producer for Sakura Gakuin, Koba Kobayashi. In 2012, they began headlining their own shows and became an independent group in 2013. As for the music, it is written by various producers, and as of 2013, performed live by a group of session musicians known as the Kami Band. The group was originally composed of lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto (born in 1997), "screamer/dancer" Moa Kikuchi (born in 1999), and "screamer/dancer" Yui Mizuno (also born in 1999). They are known as Su-metal, Moametal, and Yuimetal, respectively. Yuimetal left the group in 2018 for health reasons; her spot is now filled by three rotating dancers known as "the Avengers". Good reaction. As others have already said, you need to hear and see them live to really know what they are about and it will take more than one or two songs. Every song they do is different, they play virtually every metal genre but fuse those with other musical styles and genres, often when you least expect it. For the studio recordings the musicians are largely anonymous In live shows they are supported by the Kami Band, some of Japan's very best session musicians - we only know for sure that one Kami Band member (Leda Cygnus) has been involved with some of the studio recordings. Live you get to hear Su-metal's vocals without all the over-processing of the studio - and the live videos still don't prepare you for just how good her voice is when you finally see them in the flesh. The whole concept was formed around her vocal talents and stage presence, even though she was about 10 when their producer first saw her singing with her previous Jpop trio, saw her potential and gave him the idea of her fronting a fusion Jpop-metal band and just 12 when he was able to work with her when she joined the Idol group in 2010 from which BABYMETAL emerged. Su may be the lead singer and the main focus, but Yui and Moa are equally important with their backing vocals and choreography. BABYMETAL are primarily a live performance act. The choreo (they have Japan's best choreographer working with them right from the start - she choreographed Japan's contribution to the Rio Olympics and was leading for the 2020 Olympics before they were cancelled) is not dancing as we know it in the west where dancers are used to fill the stage or prance about in their knickers grabbing their crotches and giving you something to take your mind off the bland music. With BABYMETAL it has purpose - it is related to the song and lyrics and helps those of us who do not speak Japanese to understand the meaning of the songs, but it is also designed to lead the crowd - when Yui and Moa sing or chant the crowd sing along with them, when they jump or make a particular move so does the crowd. They form the bridge between the band and the crowd and make the audience an important part of the performance. You are quite right in saying BABYMETAL can't be compared with other bands, they really are original and unique. I got bored a long time ago with all these bands doing the same as virtually every other band that came before and making songs that sound the same as their last and their next songs - that just doesn't happen with BABYMETAL. One thing to correct from your comments - although they were school girls when they started, they are not wearing school uniforms. Their costumes are a mix, like their music, of cute (with their tutus) and metal (armour style tops) and have always been age appropriate, gradually changing and evolving as they have matured. Unlike pretty much every other female artist or band, there was never any suggestion of sexualising them, never any exposed flesh and not one suggestive dance move. For your next reaction I would suggest their first appearance at a major event outside of Asia with their song 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere in the UK in 2014. See how 3 girls aged 16 and 15 backed by the Kami Band won over 50-60,000 potentially hostile UK metalheads who nearly all had no clue who they were or what they were about to see and hear with just 5 songs in a language they didn't speak - this was the last song of their set.

💀 💕 / 👻 👻 👻 I'm a big fan of both. BABYMETAL have been around since 2010, BAND-MAID formed in 2013. A little surprised there wasn't more love shown for Su-metal's voice, but it's great you really appreciated the music. And that you get how this sets them aside from most other metal groups. Considering where you're coming from, you might try 'Road of Resistance', 'Rondo of Nightmare' and 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai'. You do have to let go of some preconceptions about what metal vocals "should" sound like, but once you get used to it, the rewards are many. : )

Baby Metal is a totally different band than Band-Maid and LoveBites. Other than they all sing in Japanese nothing similar about them. As you mentioned other metal groups like them a lot. Korn, Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot like them a lot. Corey Taylor of Slipknot in an interview said that at home he listens to Baby Metal. They have won 32 international awards and filled the 55,000 Tokyo Dome which only a handful of Japanese bands have been able to do. Just last week they were named #10 on the list of greatest metal bands ever. One of their songs, Gimme Chocolate was named one of the most important metal songs of the last 10 years. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboard's Rock chart. Other songs you might like are: 1. I understand that you have a lot of questions. I had the same. But really explaining to you the History behind BABYMETAL would take far too many words for KZfaq to handle in one or even a few comments :D. They have been around for longer than Band-Maid and arguably BABYMETAL is probably the reason you discovered Band-Maid in the first place. They have broken through the international music scene 7~ years ago and have opened a lot of doors for bands like Band-Maid to find fame outside of Japan. Not just Japan bands though, it is thought that BABYMETAL is the reason for the current renewed interest in Asian music these past few years. Since I discovered BABYMETAL, I have discovered so many new music that I'll be forever thankful. For me though, not one band beats BABYMETAL. They're unique, bold and an absolute monster of live performances. If you were blown away by this, wait til you see their live performances. I believe some have already recommended songs for you to watch. You have given the voice a 8 but remember that it is commonly known that contrary to logic, Suzuka's voice is much better live. We tend to think she's overly produced/edited in the recordings but when it comes to live, her voice is powerful and clear. In fact, BABYMETAL as a "project" would've never existed without Suzuka's amazing voice. It was her voice that convinced Kobayashi that you could mash up those two genres : J-Pop idols fronting a heavy metal band. Remember, BABYMETAL didn't win 2 international awards for "Best Live Act" for nothing :). Some people have called BABYMETAL a "Metal Theatre" band. I've got to concur.

Babymetal has been around for 10 years and their oldest member (the lead singer) is now 22 years old. Nothing against Bandmaid and Lovebites (as they are talented muscians), but Babymetal is on a much bigger level then those other two bands popularity wise and in my opinion skill-wise. As has been said, the only real similarity is that they are Japanese women as Babymetal has pretty much created a whole new genre of heavy metal. Bandmaid and Lovebites have a more traditional approach to hard rock.

yes, the band has been with them from the beginning, but are officially marketed as a separate band, called Kami Band. Their original guitarist died in an accident, but they have continued on at a very high level--they are all amazing. On first glance the band is under-appreciated, but serious Babymetal fans know everything about them as well, not just the girls.

Everyone pretty much gave you the 411 on BabyMetal, but one important thing BabyMetal does is make you smile while rocking out. Great reaction and we all have that WTF moment when we first discover Babymetal, for me it was when I randomly clicked on "Give me chocolate" a couple of years ago and was instantly captured. That was the start of a long journey that opened up the world of incredible Japanese bands, Band-Maid was next and I was lost in the fox hole. Most of the fans will tell you that their live videos are the best my to experience Babymetal, but you need to be careful, there are a lot of blocks and strikes occurring since the start of the virus as there are not enough real people to judge claims.

Ok everyone will tell you to do Road of Resistance Live in Japan. It is a great performance but getting blocked a lot recently. I would highly suggest you go back into time to Ijime Dame Zettai at Sonisphere 2014. It is their first show in front of a Western Metal crowd. You can see the results in the clip. Note this song also shows the backing band aka the Kami Band. The Kami Band are amazing and Babymetal Live is just another level above.

Great reaction, but I have to disagree about the vocals. The music catches you, but Su's vocals is what keeps you in. From the swell of the verse, i feel as if a giant wave is forming, to the catchy chorus, and to her belting at the end was amazing. Hope you watch / listen to more babymetal. I suggest reacting to their live shows which imo are usually better than the audio tracks... While I think that BandMaid are probably the best live Rock band on Earth, Babymetal are a Kawaii Metal band, a genre of Metal that is refreshing and fun and very Metal (and, believe me, I've seen a lot of them come and go since I saw Sabbath giving birth to Heavy Metal at a gig in 1976) that was invented by their producer KobaMetal. He took the 3 girls from a pop academy as he thought Su, the lead singer (being a soprano with a range of C4 to G#5 and occasionally above) would sing well with a Metal band. Their core playing members are all gifted musicians but they rotate as they have their own projects and the girls use different musicians in different countries when on tour. But the girls (Su, plus Moa and Yui) were together from 2010 to 2017, until Yui left and they've had a few try outs for a new third member and had settled down to one or two when I got lucky enough to see them live in February, a week before the world shut down. They were utterly brilliant! They were due to be supporting Iron Maiden on their farewell tour in Manila but that's all cancelled. Loved your reaction! The thing about this group is the incredible range of songs within their own genre. They are all quite different from each other. The Kami-band may be one of the finest ensembles ever put together. Every member is a star, but they PLAY TOGETHER! Some facts about Babymetal… The original 3 singers, referred to as the Holy Trinity, go by the names Su Metal, lead, Yui Metal and Moa Metal. The band is called the Kami. God> band and has a few musicians that rotate in to give the main ones a break from time to time. One of the guitarists died in 2018. Also in 2018 Yui was absent from the world tour due to health issues and finally in October the official announcement that she was leaving the group due to the health issues. She was eventually replaced by three women that rotate in her spot and only dance. The 3 girls are referred to as the Avengers and as Babymetals lore goes they were chosen by the Fox God which is who they refer to as their leader.

Its like listening to an Anime intro, touched by Slipknot, while playing Chun Li from Streetfighter .

this video is the very first japanese music i had ever heard in 2016.by word of mouth someone told me about it so i checked it out and was amazed at how different it was and great.being a 67 year old rock and metalhead i really wasn't ready for it like you and was blown away.then at the same sitting youtube suggested another song called real existence by band maid and i kinda went 'yeah right japanese girls dressed like maids ' and expected some idol shit.man was i ever wrong! best decision musically i've MAID in about 35 years! and i've never looked back. the groups kept on coming. lovebites,destrose,aldious,mary's blood,scandal and the list goes on and on.who woulda thunk it?!!

I'm glad you went for Karate before Gimme Choklate, less WTF, more quality. It's not wrong calling it poppy, they are totally a pop group. They just happen to be a metal group as well. Usually more metal than pop, but you never know what to expect with them. Most of their songs sound nothing like their other songs. Su (the lead singer) is one of those rare singers that's way better live than in the studio. The whole thing is better live, and not just because they put on a hell of a show (understatement), but also because their studio production tend to make it softer, less guitars and Su is way less powerful when her voice is.. idk what it is they do, but the word "overproduced" comes to mind.

you probably know by now but the band is `the kami band` the band you have already seen behind the girls at pretty much all of their concerts. BTW Kami means GODS. IMO the best band in the world right now, with Bandmaid and Lovebites an equal 2nd.

First time listening to Babymetal, did it feel like you had never heard music before? The backing band is the "Kami Band" and they are awesome musicians. Su-metal (lead vocals | Dance) 22. Moametal and Yuimetal (both screams | dance) are both 20. Yuimetal left the band for health reasons. I agree with many that you need to check out their live performances. One of the best live acts I have heard. Hope I can get to concert(s). Three girls rotate in Yui's place and they are known as the "Avengers."

Very nice reaction, was a lot of fun to watch! It might be a bit too soon to get into the more "experimental" stuff, but if you want to check out what they are doing at the moment with different music genres, I can highly recommend a live version of BxMxC: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNB-e6SLpqe1pZs.html It was my least favourite song from their new album until Ive seen what they made it to be live. It basically felt like the whole crowd got kicked in the face by that brutal sound. A real overdose for the brain. Like many already mentioned, no two songs really sound alike so Im sure there is a lot of neat stuff for you to check out still.
